In my years of playing I have seen some shady things happen. I for one have had 80 dollars stolen from me at the USDGC. I know of another golfer who had his entire bag stolen at a tournament. Also, I know that a vendor at USDGC this year had everything on his table ripped off.
So here is the question, and this poll is purely for my curiosity.

No matter where you are and what you do there will be a certain percentage of people that will take advantage of the situation. There will always be a percentage of cops that are crooked and a percentage of people that do things they souldn't. But as a whole I have to say that I trust the majority of disc golfers that I have personally met.

Most people out there struggle with self-discipline, whether it's eating, drinking, smoking, stealing, fighting, etc. Does that make them less trustworthy...maybe for their particular weakness. Don't give a fat kid a box of cupcakes, a drunk a bottle of whiskey, or a thief bag of money. Why single out disc golfers and the USDGC?

Merely examples Carter.
For the record, I voted 80 - 99 %
I got in a coversation this weekend about this very topic and wanted to see what the overall feeling was about it.
Don't read too much into it, I am just curious. Nothing happened to me this weekend or anything like that, just curious.

I will admit that these days you can't trust a lot of disc golfers. I know of guys who have had plastic stolen out of there bags.
On the other hand, someone stole a bunch of things out of my truck a few years ago, including my golf bag. I posted about it on this board and sure enough, one of my discs appeared at PIAS in Plano. They guy that purchased it GAVE it to me and would not take money for it.
In general, 10+ years ago, I trusted all disc golferers, but I have personally seen discs disapear out of the lost and found and have had discs stolen from tournament HQ sales tables.
Because of this, we had to change the way discs are sold at tournaments.
Also, PIAS in Carrollton had to put a security system in there store to stop all the theift of discs.
Its the new rec players that have no respect mostly. As disc golf get bigger and bigger, we will see more and more of this.

I had a lost disc returned to be by the person who had scratched my name off it.

When I first started playing disc golf 11 years ago I had lost discs returned to me all the time. I put my name, cell phone number, and e-mail address in permanent Sharpie marker on all my discs.
I have had maybe two or three lost discs returned to me in the last 5 years.

Disc golf returns vary for me. Non-disc golfers almost always call, long time disc golfers almost always call, rec players and tournament wanna-be's don't seem to call.
Obviously, it is hard to judge one way or the other because you don't really know what is happening. This is simply what I've seen.

I lost a disc with my 800 # on it & I got it back on the same course when a guy hit me with it. NO "four' or nothin, hacker. One time while vacationing in Clearwater I threw one in the water & it was waiting for me in my mail box when I arrived home. Thanks Wendy G.

I have had one disc returned in the last year and 1/2....However, it does not bother me at all...Every lost is is being thrown somewhere i am sure...beginners need discs and the better discs they get, the more likely they are to get hooked. We(the friZZaks) were on the brink of boredom with the sport, until one day a golfer gave us an eagle to try...After that, it was all uphill...When i lose a fine disc now, I usually just say, "thats gonna be a real GEM for the am who finds it." Its no sweat really, 15$ gone from me, but another 15$ ill kick back into the sport by purchasing a new one....Every time you buy a disc, whether a fund raiser or something you just wanna try out, you help our sport...You create money that helps bigger DG companies sponsor players...Sometimes i put extra grip on tee boxes so peoples BITE shoes will wear out faster so they have to buy new ones...Just kidding...Purchase bite shoes everyone...they are a true Dg company that doesnt focus on discs...No, im not sponsored by them, but i support all companies that support the sport!!!

I voted 100% on the cash thing because I do not hand over wads of cash to just anybody to hold, disc golfer or not.
Most people are great, some are lame, and tiny few are scum. The scum stands out because when 3.5+ million San Diego County residents don't rob me, I hardly notice. But when one scummy [censored] does....
Disc golfers are people.

Posted on a tournament thread....
"but on the other hand, i thought that everyone at the farm on sunday were friends and could trust each other but apparently there were a few that could not be trusted. i do not know who would have done such a thing but someone stole money out of my wifes car. so to whom ever did this thank you, you are one hell of an individual. i also hope i find out who did it!!!"

LMAO @ question 3..."here, hold on to this wad of cash, i dont know how much it is, therefore you could take any random amount out and I wouldnt know..."....how would you even know if they did? And why generalize "disc golfers?" What if you asked this poll of "people" in general? Would it be higher? Lower?? would it matter???

Ok some rec golfers, not most of the guys who play rec in tournaments I hope are what you are referring to. I do consider myself a rec tourny golfer still and have returned every disc I have found with a name and number in except for 2 right now but will get rid of one this weekend. I know i have seen the only other group on the course claim they did not get a disc down out of a tree and it was during a night round. Then one of the group asked us if we found one of his disc's, which we had not. My personal policy it to try to return all disc's with name and numbers in it. I have had one kid call and tell me I am not getting a disc back of mine he found. But as for stealing from another I think they are just plain lowlifes. We found a wallet 2 weeks ago on the course, we got the word out we found one and the guy found us before we left and he got his wallet and everything in it back. There are alot of golfers friends I would trust with my money. But I would not trust just any guy out on the course old or young. They say Character is what you do when no one is watching you. Hey does the question also apply to friend 's that look in your bag and say let me try that..and you never get it back?? lol
Oh and where did you get a wad of cash from? lol

I left a pair of Oakleys on a table at the IDGC this weekend and the next day they were returned to me a few hours before the end of the tournament. Gave me a good feeling.

At a NC tourney a few years back, someone's car was broken into (a volunteer spotter's car, nonetheless) during the round and all his discs (including many rare expensive discs) were taken. People assuming it was a tourney player because only we'd be smart enough to know that those discs were worth $$.
But it was DURING the tournament, so either someone's sneaky enough to get away with that much plastic while having 3 others in their group, or more likely, it was a smart casual player or even just a student at the school who knows enough disc golf to steal some good stuff.
I agree it's the casuals who would steal.
I left a wraith on the course for a FEW holes. It was gone when I got back. There were two casuals a few holes behind me, so I assume they've got it. I ask them about it. "Oh yeah, I think we found one. It's in our car." So they had stopped their hole, ran the disc down to their car, and kept playing. I'm SURE they were gonna try to hand that one back.
*sigh*
I trust disc golfers. It's people in general I seem to have trouble believing.
