I have been talking with Greensboro Parks and Rec about disc golf and the overwhelming popularity that we have experienced in Greensboro. There is going to be a few new courses going up in the upcoming years and I wanted to share the information I have recieved.

Barber Park is going to have all holes moved and we are getting tee pads and signs as soon as we get money from the approved bonds. Should be soon (within the 6-12 months) as they are going to start consturction of a new maintence building on #2 and #3s fairway.

Bryan Park has a new development plan that includes an 18 hole course. The plan has been approved but no grond as been broken. Within 2 years the course should be complete. We need to follow up with the Bryan Park Facilties Manager (I will provide contact information soon).

Kinnley Park is the newest addition to the Greensboro Park and Rec. This park as not been started, but the approved plans for the park include an 18-hole course. We will also need to follow up with the new park manager (once appointed) to ensure the course does not get cut from the budget.

The Summit at Haw River State Park -
Not many people have even heard about this gem. Greensboro is home to NC's newest State Park at Haw River. This is a old outdoor adventures area that was once called The Summit. It was a place that business's could rent cabins, listen to movtivational speakers and enjoy outdoor activities to build stronger bonds within their company. In 1991 The Summit opened a 9 hole course to treat its clients to a "new" experience. Well it is now 2006 (15 years, wow) and The Summit has gone public, becoming a State Park in December. I have gone to speak with officials and rangers of the park and they do ask that all Discgolfers (including YOU!) check in at the front office before starting your round. I have posted a link to their website that includes directions. Enjoy! Other things to mention is that the course is only 9 holes (ranging from 180' to 400'), but they do have 9 other DGA baskets for additional holes. We need to periodically follow up with the park ranger and offer to help whenever possible.

Additional notes...
Reidsville, NC (just outside Gboro) has an approved bond of $30,000 to produce a world class course itself. City officals met with the designers of Danville's new course to discuss layout options for the new park. I have tried to contact the Danville designers, but have yet to get feedback on this course.

Speaking of Danville they have a new 18-hole course and it looks nice. I plan on make a trip up there later this month to meet the club officals and discuss any volunteer possiblities with the new Reidsville course.

If any one would like to help with the follow up of these courses, feel free to help.

I hope that in a few years (by 2010) Greensboro will be a top notch disc golf community.

Please let us know any useful information about key park contacts and staying on the parks department to keep things moving forward.
