I know it's a little early for information about SNPC2007, but I wanted to get the word out to all players who want to come to Mobile, Alabama, and play one hell of a disc golf tournament.

To participate in one of the highest paying tournaments in disc golf, you must be qualified through the Southern Nationals by playing in just ONE sanctioned tournament before the 2006-2007 season ends (the weekend of May 26-27).

Here is the link to the schedule of tournaments you can qualify through... http://sndg.org/tourn.php

Here is the link to the payout for SNPC2006*... http://www.pdga.com/schedule/event.php?TournID=6054

*No guarantee is made that the payout will meet or exceed last year's, but we are **** sure trying!

We had the privilege of hosting the Southern National Amateur Championships as well as the Pro's last year, helping to alleviate the need for big name sponsors. Not this year! The Mobile Area Disc Golf Association has hit the ground hard procuring cold hard cash since last September.

So, if you like Southern hospitality, great disc golf courses and really good people, come on down to the Gulf Coast and see if you can take the title from Mobile homeboy MattO.

I was there last year, hence my signature! :D;) I can vouch for the quality of the event, from start to finish. Even though Mobile is only hosting the pros this year, I can assure you the event will be top notch. Y'all come! rWc3523

Can't wait for this event Willie !!! I'm going to start the smack talk right now and say I'm bringing some cash back to the BR !!!111

Heck, gimme a top 25% finish and I'll be giddy. But I'll have to practice up on those courses. First up is the SMACKDOWN where my Highland Road arm will come in handy. :D

To probably most PDGA forum members: The SNPC is the biggest and most fun tournament you haven't attended. If it's anywhere near as impressive as it was last year then it will be a missed opportunity if you don't drive down to battle your southern brothers on kick-arse courses. Last year's purse was a whopping 25 GRAND!!!

Come get some.

Hey Scoot_er! How many Houstonites are you bringing with ya?

FOUR MONTHS AND COUNTING ..... tick-tock .... better get yourself qualified.

Question: If you played last year's SNPC, are you automatically qualified for this years event?

ww180roc
Apr 25 2007, 11:35 AM
I am 99% certain the championships do not qualify you for the next year's tournament because no points are awarded. I will confirm this through the SN BOD.

But Jake, you are qualified anyway by way of the City of Mobile doubles on 6/17/06. The 06-07 season started 6/1/06.

The courses played last year will be the same as this year, but Langan Municipal Park has changed quite a bit since last year because of the Tennis Center expansion.

The courses will be:

Medal of Honor Park (Cottage Hill) - http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=7

University of South Alabama - http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=1911

McLean Park on Spring Hill (Hobbitt) - http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=2590

Langan Municipal Park - http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=8

BTW - If you see Chris L. ask him if he still has my super roc he picked out of last years SNPC lost-n-found and try to get it to someone going to Louisiana in May. Please... I really miss that disc. I know Chris has taken good care of it... Thanks...

is there a reason why there are no qualifiers for the southern nationals in North Carolina and South Carolina???? i am about as southern as it gets and the only qualifier i have played was Bowling Gren KY. they didn't even have sweet tea there. :D serioulsy though i would love to know if there is a reason. thanks for any info.

How could a southern nationals qualifying event NOT have sweet tea?!?!

Seriously though BWD, usually Charleston is a qualifier.

bazkitcase5
May 17 2007, 03:44 PM
The SN is a tournament series only. It is up to the tournament director to make their tournament a SN event.

http://www.sndg.org/faq.php

$2 from every entry fee is given to the SN, in which every bit of the total fees at the end of the year is given back to the championships.

Its really quite simple, so if you want SN events in SC or NC, talk to the TDs.

bgwvdave
May 17 2007, 04:29 PM
charleston was not this year to the best of my knowledge at least it was not mentioned. thanks for the info. guys if the SN receives money for the qualifiers i would think they would be the ones reaching out to sell their series. good luck to everyone down there maybe i can qualify next year.

bazkitcase5
May 17 2007, 04:38 PM
Why would they reach out to sell their series? They do not make any profit. Every $ received is given back to the players at the championship. It is basically a tournament series for the players and by the players.

There is an event this weekend in Bowling Green that is SN, and last weekend in may there is an event in Florida, as well as an A Tier SN event in Huntsville.

There are/have been SN events in MA and England as well...

they would sell the event to help it grow. what is the motivation for any tournament that is not a qualifier right now to become one? i am not trying to start an argument i am meearly trying to understand why there are no qualifiers in my state North carolina.

haroldduvall
May 17 2007, 06:48 PM
Dear Dave - I believe that if you participate in a Southern National Qualifier, you are eligible to apply for entry to the Southern National Championship. So I believe that you are eligible with your 6th place finish in Charleston.

I sanction Southern Nationals for the same reason I sanction PDGA, namely it benefits the players who participate in the Championship and it supports the organization.

Take care,
Harold

May 18 2007, 11:31 AM
what is the motivation for any tournament that is not a qualifier right now to become one?

The motivation would be to help a great event become bigger and bigger. Every dollar paid from your qualifier just helps build the purse in the championships. This will in turn help to increase participation at the qualifiers, just as PDGA sanctioning helps with participation. It is a win win for the qualifier and the players.

bgwvdave
May 18 2007, 11:42 AM
I would have to repsectfully disaggree with you there. the quality events here in north carolina fill weeks before the tournement any way. i understand where everyone on this thread is coming from and the S.N. sounds like a great organization but in your post i think the comparison of the S.N. and the PDGA is a liitle stretched. and once again we have no problem filling events so the benefit on our end does not apply. i am not saying all events in north carolina fill but the majority do and that is great for us. once again no disrespect meant at all nothing but love for my southern brothers but again i would love to have a qualifier here in our state

ww180roc
May 18 2007, 12:35 PM
BWD, unfortunately right now, the SN series does not reach out to tournaments asking them to be qualifiers. Nor does it start new tourneys for the sole reason of being a qualifier. Perhaps this will change in the future, but right now it is purely up to the TD of the tournament.

Massachusetts now has two qualifiers and the UK has a qualifier. New Mexico had a qualifier two years ago.

All it takes to make ANY tournament a qualifier is contact with the SN schedule guru (John Kittrell). He will get you to fill out a form and he will get the tourney on the schedule page at sndg.org. Then you just send in the $2 per head and the results. Your players are now qualified for the all the SN Championships. (Pro, Am & Doubles)

Link to the application form --> http://www.sndg.org/SN%20Tournament%20application.doc

Talk to your tournament TDs about becoming SN qualifiers. It's very easy to become one and the Championships are all great events to attend.

I have to say if there are any women looking for some tournament action come Labor Day weekend Mobile, AL is the place to be! With tons of added cash for all divisions the ladies' winner will be walking away with a nice sum. Last year the first place winner in Pro Women walked away with over $750. The first place winner in Pro Master Women banked over $550.

This was an awesome tournament last year and it's only going to be better this year. Super courses, players packs, lunch, player's party w/ BEER, skills competition, Friday doubles, low entry fees, the last five USDGC spots ... what's not to like?

So come on ladies, play, have a good time and show those men we can compete for the big $$ too!

119 players and 30 volunteers. Amazing. It was a blast running SNPC2007. I could not have done it without the help of our club, the Mobile Area Disc Golf Association. I will post a better recap soon...

...I want to get it right.
