Does anyone know where the windiest disc golf courses are located? I know there is meteorological data providing average wind speeds for cities/towns, however, I was curious if anyone has ever compiled this data in relation to disc golf courses.
Lake Shore Park in Ashtabula, Ohio is definitely the windiest course I've ever played.

Steed Park in Richlands NC had 65 MPH winds at a tournament there once.
An average round there is played in 15 - 20 MPH winds.

Disc Creek Disc Golf Course in Amarillo, TX gets lots of wind. I've heard the theories from the Weatherman on TV, and I know for a fact we get some really wicked weather, but the Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma are definately some of the windiest places on earth (except of course, Mt. Washington)

A quick search of the internet revealed this web page. (http://met-www.cit.cornell.edu/ccd/wndspd98.html) With 57 years of data to back it up, Amarillo ranks high on the list with an annual wind speed average of 13.5 mph. Judging by this data, there are only a handful of other U.S. cities with higher average surface winds.
You weren't joking about Mt. Washington...

I suspect some of our ski hill courses in various parts of the U.S. would be the windiest on average. I know the Pro Worlds competitors will have to deal with wind at least a few days at Highbridge since the hilltop is the highest point in the county and near Lake Superior.

How soon you forget......Round Rock!!!! I can't tell you how many times i've stood on 16's tee and seen 3 foot waves out on the lake.....and i don't even live there. I can't imagine what the locals are used to seeing.

I would think some of the Oregon, Washington, Appalachian and New England ski hills would have regularly high winds. Highbridge is in the medium blue zone on that map right on the southern edge of Lake Superior.

Ask Posi-Todd in West Jefferson, NC the same question a year from now about the brand spanking new High Country Disc Golf Course, smack in the middle of those Appalachian "black zones" on the wind speed map. Very cool, pun intended, Ice Bowl there this year.

I'll never forget that hole, but it was not because of the wind off the tee. In 1997, Brian McRee and I paired up for National Doubles at Old Settler's Park. During the best-shot round, Brian drove the green and parked his lie about 15' from the pin...the water was directly behind the basket. I putted first and completely missed the basket to the left, landing OB in the water. Brian stepped up threw the same shot into the drink!

Lucky for us, those usual high winds weren't blowning for the ICE BOWL.
I definitely think the new High Country DGC in Jefferson, NC. is a worthy mention for super Windy Courses. Not to mention, I still think it's the highest elevation course East of the Rockies at about 3,300 ft. It's not unusual to have winds gusting to near 60+ mph in the Winter. Could be worse though, the course is actually protected on the Northwest side by Phoenix Mtn., well over 4,500 ft.
At Doubles this evening, winds will be 20-40+ mph. Who says Innovas new Max is overstable? :D

Anyone who has played Berkeley's Aquatic Park in the summer could attest to it being pretty **** windy on a consistent basis (i.e. 10 foot putts being lifted 50-60 feet away).

The windiest disc golf course seems to be whichever course I'm playing on. It could be a completely calm day while I'm at work. As soon as I get off work and step on that course...sure enough my best friend Mr. Wind shows up.

My Home Course is Tinicum Park in Erwinna, PA. It us located between the Delaware River and the Delaware Canal, up against a mountain ridge. The wind seems to swirl and does not blow in the same direction.

I would say Dunham is windier than Tinicum. There are often strong, unpredictable winds at Tinicum but I have also been there on dead calm days. I've never been to Dunham when it was calm.
I think the king of East Coast wind is Brandywine. There has been more than one occasion where I showed up, tried to throw the first 2 holes, and just turned around and played hole 9 and left.

Dodge City, KS is the windiest city in America and it has a course there. I played in a tournament there a couple of years ago that had sustained 40-50 mph winds.
The '05 Frontier Open in Hays, KS had the same 40-50mph winds sustained, and closer to 50mph on Sunday's round...AND it was around 90+ degrees with an overpowering stench of pure cattle dung...and a GREAT time!! When laying up from 20' becomes a challenge of nerves...IT'S WINDY!!!!!
Playing in tornados is fun. One time in Lewisville, a little storm was a brewin' producing sustained 40 mph winds gusting to 60. I actually witnessed a classic roc , float , still spinning in the air , motionless, stand still for the better part of 7 seconds. Then it jumped back about 85 feet from where the player was putting . AMAZING..

Sounds like the 06' Pleasure Island event. I think I shot even for the day and the next tournament it was like -24 for the day. BTW that even was GOOD. :D

Nobody shot under Par yesterday in Big Spring. The wind blew relentlessly! On a 27 hole course, 2 players managed to shoot 84. 94 players x 27 holes x 2 rounds = a lot of holes with few Birdies. I'm not sure what the highest recored wind speed was, but it was pretty rough even by my standards!

brandywine in DE is notoriously windy, but this list would be far from complete if it did not include cape henlopen, DE. the course meanders through sand dunes with a stiff ocean breeze. as you can see here, (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=decimal&latitude=38.7854166666 667&longitude=%20-75.0937333333333&zoom=7) it doesn't get much closer to the ocean.

I don't know that Norman's Lyon Course is the windest, but it is constant there. One year the Norman Pro/Am DID NOT have wind and all the locals were lost. They were unsure how to throw......
