What would be some good courses down here in the Bowling Green area to practice that are similar to prepare for the courses in Lex. I am going to try to get up there before then but who knows if that will happen.

Shilly is like a shorter Lovers ( semi-Open and can be windy) and Vets has a mix of wooded holes and open..about 4 open holes and 14 wooded. But the wooded holes arn't super technical. Almost all the holes at both courses are dueceable...if you have the right shot in your bag for every hole. I think the best Shilly score was 43 for a tournament and 44 (Bunnell) at Vets altho we have locals that claim to have shot better....you know how that goes.

I would play preston and basil as a warm up. I can't remember which one is most similar to veterans. Lovers is closest to shillito.
Veterans is tough. Similar to a hobson but much longer. Birds are there but tough to get sometimes.

Veterans is the tougher of the two by far. Justin was on fire with the -10 as that is the only double digits ever at Vets. Lots of trees, water, blind shots, technical shots, as well as a couple over 400 feet in the woods. It plays like a tougher Hobson Grove. You could shoot 49 or 59 in any given day.....Everett
Shillito is a the birdie course especially on the front. All 9 could be had but there are several areas which could get you into trouble as many have found out. The back side averages 65 feet longer per hole with 3 being over 400. If you are a pro you would want to be in double figures whereas a -6 should be in the money in Advanced. Too many take Shillito lightly and get hurt there......

Last years Lexington Open VIII was the 28th richest in the land with $2300 added cash and a pro payout of $6810. This year we may reach $3,000 added cash if the last 3 weeks go as planned. Check with Everett Lasley
[email protected] for stats and flyers for the lexington Open IX. For all of you Pro Senior Grand Masters MPS there will be an additional $500 added to your field as well as the average of all the other added cash. There was a great $500 added to your division only which should make that division even fatter. I believe there are 8 in the MPS already...sweet

New cool stamped Innova disc, tourney t-shirt with new stamp, innova minis, BDGA minis, Stickers, golf pencils, and several items from Jack who always surprises us. Last year it was around $50 worth of goodies. We have another set of used once new golf clubs, that other golf sport, brand new bag & 2 dozen golf balls for a CTP that will be about $750. Probably will be on #15 Shillito as that was my first ace a decade ago there.......Everett

Just posted a link to the registration list on our website (www.bdga.org) and a PDF file showing the front 9 at Vets. Hope to get the Back 9 and Shillito up by the beginning of the week. I played at BG last weekend and also would compare Shillito to a much shorter Lovers. There are only a few trees to avoid but they find a way to get people.
Vets is a great course that can easily see your score vary by 10+ shots in two rounds. The openings are there just make sure you hit them and avoid the 3 water holes. The hole setup is greatly varied between straight, left turning & right turning.

Have there been any major changes to the courses over this past year? Are all the pin placements still going to be the same?

Added Hole #2 long at Veterans and have taken out almost all of the dead trees. Also removed alot of the bush honey suckle on the front like to the left of 4 and behind the basket on 5 at Vets (no more useing the bushes to stop your shots from going long past the basket and into the creek

The recreational players that wandered in after regulation play were all "WTF?" when the huge crowd decended on the back 9 to watch 3 unknown people (to them) play! Even the guy who lives next to hole 13 was out on he porch watching, haha! What a great way to cap off a great tournament.
I hope you all had a great time playing on our courses and I hope to see you all plus a bunch more next year. We'll be working hard on getting the third course in. :D

It was a great comeback for Barry Shultz & Eric Roadhouse just to catch Justin Bunnell. 200 people watching the playoff go 7 holes was killer. $8000 total pro payout was SWEET. It was the largest group in the history of DG, other than the worlds, for pro senior grand masters here in Lexington. Great.
Just think Dave Picklesimer was one stroke up with three to go or there may not have been a playoff. 172 golfers rocked Lexington, Ky. and seemed to get their money's worth with 4 baskets given away and 300 disc. All women & jrs non-pro cashed and Pick won a set of ball golf clubs with a new bag on CTP #10.....oouuch

Great Tourney! Everett ran a great show and everyone seemed to have a great time. Players new to Lexington seemed very impressed by the tourney & courses. Vets is a beauty and can take a bite out of you if you're off by inches on a few holes. Solid play by Blair Bose taking the Am2 division at 14.
There will be some pics from the playoff posted soon at www.bdga.org (http://www.bdga.org) and hopefully some tourney pics before too long. Hope to see everyone and more here next year. JD.
