So the city is meeting today about the future of Laurelwood. There is a strong chance that disc golf will play a roll in Laurelwood's future but the extent of it partially depends on the disc golf community getting out and making their voices heard. We have a list of 8 city planners/parks and rec people who will be influential in the decision making process. If you can take just 5 minutes to email or call any of these individuals and express your interest/excitement in the course (even those from out of town) it will really help our cause. We want this to be a world class disc golf facility, please help make it happen.

Here is the scoop!!! sorry it takes so many words..
The city of Eugene is wanting to include disc golf into the existing ball golf course at Laurelwood ball golf course. THEY are FOR IT. The current proprietor of 17 years is leaving because he couldn't make a profit on ball golf alone. The city is drawing up new parameters for the facility and will be accepting proposals for running Laurelwood. The city is trying to figure out how to write in disc golf as an added feature that would add bonus points for potential operators of the recreation site at Laurelwood.
What we need to do is have ALL of us at ODSA to send emails and phone calls supporting the change to disc golf. There are several options that could ensue......
1. The existing 9 hole ball golf course would remain without disc golf.
2 The existing 9 hole course would remain with some disc golf holes on the ball golf course which would lead to the upper (guerilla course with revisions) continuing in the fallow upper nine holes.
3 The course could be (at some great expense -primarily building new greens for ball golf) changed into an 18 hole"Executive" course (from the current very long nine holes) with disc golf having baskets off to the side of the greens of the ball golf targets ( with the greens being O/B for discers)
4. 9 very long holes of disc golf playing the existing ball golf course along/between ball golfers.
5. There are 18 holes that do not conflict with the ball golf course already but there are bathroom and parking issues that have not been (and are not very easily dealt with)
6. The Laurelwood recreation area has been what it was in the past and will become what it will be in the future. We should all call this resource by the name of " The Laurelwood Recreation Area" in our letters because framing the idea of recreation is more positive to our goals of disc golf recreation than of " the ballgolf course"
This is a call to all dger's who want a championship course in Eugene to respond NOW in the next few weeks. We CAN make this happen. Tell EVERY person who loves you to help out. Tell every other person the same. This could be ( you fill in the blank)
Love and thanks to all supporters. Bruce
