Asheville can't control when their tourney is due to it being part of the Mountain Sports Fest.

Looks like a divided state again for the FEST.

I just hope the course will be ready in time

I completely understand that Asheville can't change their weekend. Even though the Mt. Sports Fest has changed weekends at least 3 times in the past 5 years.

My issue is that there shouldn't be 2 sanctioned events on the same weekend in NC. This makes 3 years in a row that there have been 2 sanctioned events on the same weekend in NC.

I want to go to Asheville. I love the area and it would be a great opportunity to play a new course. But, Sanford is 4 hours closer to home and an NC Points Series event.

johnbiscoe

nc is a big state- they are 4 hours apart. i agree it is frustrating having to schedule around events which hop around on the schedule but that is how it is.

I understand where you are coming from Kirk. Hopefully the way things are going, they will both fill. I don't know when Asheville contacted Beav about this but the date for the MSF should be announced early enough so this doesn't happen. I'm just a messanger here. I don't plan on playing either but will be there to help the new PRES Nate Dawg. But thanks to James and Meredith for all they've done from disc golf in the Asheville area.

Update: Course should be done MAY 3rd atleast

Never been to Sanford, but I would way rather drive 4 hours to Asheville than 1 hour to any other event.

The NICHOLS flat out rock at running a tournament. Nobody has ever gotten as much support from the community as they do EVERY YEAR.

URBAN SKINS baby!

Second on the Nichols' abilities to engage and garner the support of an entire city. It is absolutely amazing playing in a four man skins competition at night during a festival concert, band jammin on stage, with the whole crowd following and cheering. I'm sure the pro skins is fun as well, but I always spectate that one. They have tapped into something special up in Asheville, and have educated the public, demolished any stereotypes, and have established support from businesses, the city government, all of the stores and restaurants downtown, and have aligned with all of the other sports organizations and affiliates to positively grow the sport of disc golf, as well as support their's in return. The payout is simply icing on the cake, because if you ask me, the lunches are worth it alone. I firmly believe the PDGA should focus more on this style of marketing. A sincere thanks James and Meredith. See you soon.

Apr 11 2007, 10:00 AM
Had a chance to play the course yesterday and all I have to say is WOW. The old course is flat compared to this. The club has been doing an awesome job building steps because they are needed. The course has 3 par 4's. However one is a major tweener and the other two might be legit. The course has several valley shots but one reminds me of the Guantlet at Hornets but across a valley. This course is tight but fair. Alot of the flukiness of the old is gone. Once this is done it's going to be awesome. Some of the tee boxes could be longer on some holes but they stated the city put them in before consulting club. Oh Yeah, the beautiful sunset overlooking the mountains on 18 last night made playing to PVC worth the drive. This course will be the one to play in the future.

If someone found a Red Champ Teebird please return (hole 9)

The new course is in the same neighborhood. Instead of turning left on Richmond Hill you go straight until sub ends into the park. At this point it opens into a REAL parking lot.
Lots of spots left. Mentioned to Nate last night that they need to get the password

Played 36 at the new Richmond Hill today......NICE!! James and crew are to be congratulated on a spectacular course! Darkness kept me from playing more. This place is a must play. The tee areas are in my personal top 3. They are sweet! Bright green astro turf that just stands out in the woods. Level and big. The course is hilly and fun. The fairways are fair and not overly tight. They demand a good shot , but they're not poke and hope. The baskets are powder coated, double chained Carolina Blue discatchers. Off the fairway, the rough is thick, but that is to be expected from a course that just opened. Overall, I am very pleased with the course and can't wait to play it again. The parking lot is huge and is for disc golf only. This place, in a year or so, when the grass on holes 1 and 18 has taken root, will be awesomely beautiful. The view of the mountains on 18's tee is nice indeed. Top Notch.

There were at least 2 because 2 people on my final card, which was the second card, did not show. And I also loved having 2 benches on each hole. It really made having to walk up and down and up and down much easier. Esp. the last round when there was just 2 of us. We waited a lot.

Anyone have any idea when the scores will be up?
