I couldn't say exactly when, except sometime between friday night and monday morning, but you will be playing Ephram White, Hobson Grove, Lover's Lane and Keriakes courses. Lots of technical shots except at White. White is long and wide open, probably averages 380' per hole. The other 3 each have a couple borderline par 4's, but are mostly technical deuce holes.
I will be registering Friday night.

ck34
Apr 11 2007, 04:13 PM
With limited time, I think it makes more sense to practice as many tighter/technical deuceable holes as possible since that's where you are likely to have the most positive impact on your score. In addition, holes where OB is identified on the map or program should at least be walked to see where the OB is in relation to the fairways and baskets.

Hobson has a LOT of shoter, tighter holes. White has a lot of 380' straight shots, but 2 looong holes with OB on both sides and 2 shorter holes with OB on both sides. Play Hobson for sure, walk White, holes 4-6. Keriakes is kind of tight, but not really. I would rather play White because of the wind, but if you know how to throw in the wind, I guess there is no need.

I'll be hitting up Hobson and Keriakes on Friday. Had 5 straight deuces out of the car at Lovers Lane last year during a practice round. Should be good to go on that one, and White is wide open and I know how to play in the wind(knock on wood).
JHBlader86
Apr 11 2007, 04:46 PM
Lovers Lane shouldnt be a problem with any of the pros. You all have the distance for White, but its the OB you gotta look out for. You'll think you can just hyzer or go straight up the middle, but trust me if there's wind it will knock it out. The key to White is laying up and just go for the par.

oops, Coda took the 3 hole birdie streak to move into the lead by 2. Climo gets his first birdie of the round on hole 6. Conditions must be tough, because Kerieakas is a birdie fest. Hole 9 is one of the toughest though, a long narrow chute through the cedars to a wide open green. If you clear the gap you have a chance at 2, but if you don't, a 3 is a good score.

It was freezing, wet, windy, snowy, occasionally warm for 2-3 minutes, cloudy, muggy, and any other terrible condition you can think of but it was fun. I feel proud of being a part of the National Tour, and helping out. If things go right, and if I feel ready then Scott McFarland, the TD, is going to let me be the 2008 BG Open TD. It depends on how well the tourney I'm running in the fall goes, and if I feel ready to take on the task.

Looks like the ratings for the 4th round are off -- Open and Masters played two different courses but the ratings are the same regardless of course (there was also an overflow of Open players who played with the B pool at Keriakes for the 4th round...)

First I wanted to say thank you to the staff that ran another flawless event! The weather was something else, listening to Nate Doss say that is the first tourney he has ever played in the snow Sunday was quite amusing! :D
On a side note, does anyone else think the USDGC qualifier spot should only go to the Open Men instead of going to both the Open and Masters. Even if they played all the same courses, weather conditions and competition are not nearly the same. I realize this has nothing to do with Bowling Green T.D.s, but it is not right! If you are on the second or third card of the Open, playing with Schultz, Climo, McCoy, Doss, Feldberg, etc....you deserve to get that spot if a Masters players beats you IMO. I am not even sure if Rocky Russell won in the play off, but it just didn't seem right! I wish the USDGC staff would take this in to consideration.

Apr 17 2007, 11:28 PM
I absolutely agree, Brad. Comparing the scores of players playing different courses in completely different weather is ridiculously unfair. In the case of the BGO, the Masters played the shielded/wooded Hobson in the afternoon while the Open were getting smacked around by the winds at wide open and stormy White. The idea, I thought, was to have players playing the same courses at the same time to be eligible. This is the same issue that has been brought up numerous times, starting at the 1997 Worlds. In the case of the BGO, where 12 Open players were in the Master's pool, they did the right thing and seeded them, to make things fairer.
Plus, how can Masters, who continue to repeat their mantra that they like Masters better because they like to play with people just like them and because it's more relaxed than in the Open....be compared to the higher pressure of the Open? By their own admission, Masters is more laid back and less tense than the Open. Therefore - it's not comparable!
If Masters want to hide from the best players, and go with the odds and take a more guaranteed smaller winnings rather than less guaranteed bigger winnings, then they should not be eligible for the USDGC spots. I think it would be completely appropriate for TDs to have the Masters play one hole from a different tee, just to make them ineligible.

Pete you need to be part of the board of directors for the PDGA.
I got bit by this last year when 3 of the five slots were taken by masters in AZ. I was the 3rd or 4th highest in the open that have not qualified. I always thought One division One champion should mean the selection process comes from the Open divisions, Men and women, not protected Divisions. With all the spots that go to state Reps, TDs, and Sponsors, it is rediculously hard to qualify. This keeps players like me who can be "competitive" I feel, out. I haven't been able to play for a long time now. I also learned that if a TD cannot go to the event he can give or sell his spot to someone else. Oh well.....
