Nice tourney stamp!

At first glance, the hands around the basket looked like the oak tree surrounding # 6 basket. Well done!

No trophy only divisions for COTO.

There will be several work days coming up (some in the evenings during the week). We're just waiting on the city to deliver material for the boxes, and will make announcements for voluteers as soon as we can. Work has already begun on the sleeves...Thanks Todd! There are also a few sleeves that will need to be replaced. Mike Olse has been working on a little redesign for a few of the holes; so, expect some changes.

Yes they did...and they played easier than the current 3...the last one was a simple(so easy I could do it) down hill thumber...and the b hole was short(225ish)easy forehand 2...the "a" hole was up hill and the only one of the 3 that posed a problem(and maybe a four)...that one had some wicked rolls all the way down :o

The 2007 COTO tournament at Pease Park in Austin is coming up rapidly (less than a month, yikes!). We are still seeking sponsors, so if you or someone you know or some business you know of would be able to sponsor, wed really appreciate it. We need cash sponsorship, but we could also use merchandise and/or gift certificate sponsorship too.

Our sponsor request letter is below. Please help out Waterloo Disc Golf Club and E.D.G.E. by printing it out, taking it around, and asking folks about sponsoring. Remember, the worst anyone can do is say no.

Also, players dont forget: you can register for COTO online at www.titledisc.com. (http://www.titledisc.com.) This tournament usually fills up with 130-140 players, so dont wait until the last minute.

Thanks!

Dear Sponsor,

The Waterloo Disc Golf Club is proud to announce that it is hosting the 17th Annual Capital of Texas Open at Pease Park in Austin, Texas. This distinguished disc golf tournament is one of the longest running tournaments in Texas. The dates are set for May 19-20, 2007, and this years event will again benefit the Educational Disc Golf Experience (E.D.G.E.) as well as our local disc golf community through the Waterloo Disc Golf Club.

E.D.G.E. is an outstanding non-profit, charitable organization that provides disc golf equipment and curriculum to 3rd through 12th graders across the country. It was developed by a Two-time World Champion disc golfer and educational specialists to give schools and youth organization leaders a basis for teaching a fun, easy-to-learn, lifetime sport to young people. For more information on the E.D.G.E. program visit their website at www.edgediscgolf.org (http://www.edgediscgolf.org) .

The Waterloo Disc Golf Club itself is a non-profit civic organization. We are here not only to support and promote the sport, but we are also all about giving back to the community. Please visit us at www.austindiscgolf.org (http://www.austindiscgolf.org) . Thanks to past sponsorship and hard work by our volunteers, we have donated in excess of $55,000 to Ronald McDonald House, Capital Area Food Bank, E.D.G.E., Lance Armstrong Foundation, Downs Syndrome Association of Central Texas, and the Austin Parks Foundation over the last eight years. Also, thanks in part to our great sponsors of the 2005 tournament, the E.D.G.E. program has been implemented into a local school here in Central Texas. Wont you please help enhance our local parks and our childrens education through E.D.G.E. by being a sponsor of this wonderful tournament? Sponsorship can be in the form of cash, merchandise, or a combination of the two. The different levels are:

 For a sponsorship of $200 or more: your companys banners/signs on display in the park during the event, your logo on the official tournament shirt, your logo on the club web site, plus on a tee-box sign. This sign will be seen by all of the competitors each time that they play the course. Your name will also be added to the Sponsor List that will be displayed at the course and distributed to the players, the general public, and the media.
 For a sponsorship of $100 - $199: your logo on the club web site, a tee-box sign, and Sponsor List.
 For a sponsorship of up to $99: your name on the web site and Sponsor List.
 Sponsorships of smaller amounts will greatly be appreciated as well. All sponsors will be put on the Sponsor list.

For more information, please contact Gordon Maxim-Kelley at (512) 858-0119 (gordon@ventbird.com), Patty or Mitch Justice at (830) 392-6060 (teamjustice@ev1.net), or Roger Allen at (512) 899-2063. Please send all sponsorship to Waterloo Disc Golf Club, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764 (checks payable to Waterloo Disc Golf Club). If you wish, you can make your check payable directly to E.D.G.E. in order to get the tax benefits of a charitable donation. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Patty Justice

I hope it works out for you ching, but you should be there for your daughter, for sure.

The work day went well yesterday. Holes 12-14 now play backwards. New #12 is pretty much old #14 backwards, New #13 is at least a par 4 (it plays from 100 ft behind the old pin placement to old #12's basket),New #14 plays back down the hill...a short anhyzer or flick. #11's long position is back (the sleeve has been cleaned out)!
We will be working on tee boxes this week & next, once the city delivers the material; so, look for announcements on which days & come help, if you can.

Just played the Pease mini yesterday and the the redesign of 12, 13, and 14 are sweet. Number 12 is basically old 14 backwards and up the hill. 13 is a monster 450' hole where you shoot out of a tunnel to an open area and then shoot uphill to a very protected basket. This version of 13 plays MUCH harder than the old version. 14 is back down the hill (it uses old 12's fairway for the most part) and is a definite birdie opportunity. I went 2-5-2...that's one way to play even golf on the hill. Anyway, if you haven't been to Pease in a while, you've got to check it out.

Is it Friday the 18th yet?

Sandwiched around all the great disc golf this weekend will be two important work evenings at Pease Park.

(Saturday is the Ricky Wright Fundraiser in Round Rock and the DiscNation Cinco de Fly-o in Dripping Springs; Sunday is the Wedding Worlds Biggest in Wimberley)

But before and after, there is important work to do at Pease.

This Friday, May 4th, from 4pm until dark

Monday, May 7th from 5 pm until dark

We need a lot of folks to help us dig out the old tee boxes at Pease so that we can put in crushed limestone material for newer, better tee boxes.

Our time to get work done at Pease before the COTO tournament on May 18-20 is rapidly running out (and the weather is threatening to reduce our work opportunities even more). As mentioned, this weekend there are several big events nearby, and next weekend is the last full weekend before the tournament (always scary to wait until the last minute, plus there is a very fun Masters tournament all day Saturday out at the Snow Farm in Round Top and Sunday is Mothers Day).

So, we are going to have a few work evenings between now and the tournament and we need your help to get things finished.

Our biggest project that hasnt yet been done is the installation of crushed limestone teeboxes. This is not the same thing as the crushed granite that was there last year which some people compared to teeing off on marbles. This is more of a road-base substance which should hold up better and not be so slippery or mushy when teeing off.

Installing this means digging out the teeboxes down to a depth of 4-5 inches, with a fairly level bottom. Later well come through and add the limestone and tamp it down really well (adding the limestone and tamping it will need to be done at the same time, so will happen later in the process first we have to get the holes dug).

We are going to have our teeboxes marked at the four corners with tee flags, those troll-doll-hair looking things driven into the ground with a big nail. We will have someone there guiding which holes we do first and which can wait until later. Bring shovels (both regular & sharpshooter) and rockbars, find out which teeboxes, and start digging. Wheelbarrows might help to haul the dirt to some place better, but that is lower priority. Getting the boxes dug is the most important thing.

However, anytime this weekend or during the day next week that you have a chance, feel free to go down to Pease and work on some of the boxes. Check the bulletin board for a notice about which boxes to work on first.

If youd prefer to help with something else, then there is still mulch that needs to be put out. There are some piles in the #1 fairway that need to be spread out on the bare earth sections of the hole and, if any is left over after that, it can be put on the bare sections back towards the practice basket (where we usually set up HQ). Hopefully we will be getting some more mulch next week to put around the HQ and practice basket areas. It will either keep the dust down if things are dry or keep the mud under control if things stay wet. Wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes are needed for this.

We need a lot of help from all our golfers to get all this done, but the end result will be a much-improved disc golf course at Pease and will benefit all the golfers, whether playing COTO or not.

After Monday, well see how much is left to be done and possibly schedule a couple of more evenings and a big workday on Saturday, May 12th.

Thanks! :)

Hey Gordon, just a little info that might help.. Any time you dig to install a tee pad, water encroachment will always become an issue , thus leading to extremely muddy tee pads . All the dirt that is being displaced to create these tee pads could be used as a barrier to prevent the limestone becoming inundated with muckity muck...

Anybody that has ever played hole 6 @ Z-Boaz after a good rain knows what I am talking about . The tee pad disappears, and has to be dug out every time ... :mad:

Hope that info helps, working hard and smart @ the same time always yeilds a better result . :cool:

Just a reminder about this evenings work scheduled at Pease Park (Monday May 7th). PLEASE come on out and help if you can; from 5 pm until dark. The weather doesnt look like it is going to be too cooperative this week, so well really need to get work done when we can. Weve got a lot of teebox digging to do.

If you have any free time later in the week, well also be working on Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday evening (starting at 5-6 pm ish each evening), and then a big workday on Saturday May 12th. Start time 8:00 am.

Thanks!

The Elks Lodge? Is that one of those places with a grand poobah? :p

This thing has got to be close to filling...I too registered under Titledisc and it hasn't shown up. There are 64 prereged already, and then you factor in all the delayed Titledisc entries and Pease park only able to accomodate about 130 players (and don't forget about designated tee times). What's the cap on this thing Mighty Mitch?

And I'll be there this afternoon ready to dig!

mitchjustice

Thank you to the volunteers who showed up yesterday to the work day. We dug up every box but #3 and #6...thanks Fish for bringing the "bobcat"...that made things a little easier. We still have lots of work to do filling the boxes with the limestone (there's 4 or 5 piles of this stuff throughout the course so filling the boxes will take some man power)...I believe Wednesday is the next work day...the weatherman is now saying the rain should stay away. Lou also mentioned that there will be a heavy duty "tamper" on Saturday to really pack the boxes down.

Thanks again for all the help fellas!

We will have one more work evening at Pease tonight (Wednesday May 9th). Mitch will be down there pretty soon (probably by 4 pm at the latest) and well work until we are fully prepared for Saturday or until it gets dark.

Well be finishing up getting the new tee boxes dug out and ready for the limestone, and if possible well move the rest of that mulch (and maybe re-paint the benches).

Please go down and help out if you can.

And then

BIG WORKDAY SATURDAY MAY 12TH

Start at 8:00 am

Work until probably mid-afternoon or whenever we get finished

Lunch and drinks - including beer :D provided for volunteers

Please bring shovels, metal rakes, wheelbarrows and work gloves (and maybe some buckets for hauling water to the boxes).

Thanks,

Just updated the list again, but I didn't get anything from titleDISC today, yet.

We're at 98 players, and if everyone who says they're gonna sign up tomorrow signs up , we're at more like 110 (plus titleDISC from yesterday & today). We will max out at 150 (depending on players per division, but NO MORE THAN 150).

If you know someone that wants to play in this & they haven't signed up....you might want to give them a call. Waterloo folks will be at Pease tomorrow evening & all day Saturday. You can sign up at the park or at titleDISC (http://www.titledisc.com) .

Tee times at Texas States didn't bother me (the only thing that sucked about the tournament was the water!) and it made for a good-sized gallery (100 ppl or more) watching the pros finish on the Dragon.....same exact thing in GA, having tee times led to a good-sized gallery watching the pros finish up the back nine....

Personally, I like the tee-time format b/c it's a nice change from shotgun starts. All right.....the final list is posted:
COTO 2007 Player List (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6821)

Here's some good news......

We'll have free beer at the park Saturday afternoon/evening :cool:....at least till the keg is tapped!

Players who come to the Sponsor Party &amp; Award Ceremony (at the Elks Lodge) will receive a 'Free Beer Ticket'! Beers will be $.50 each after that, until the keg is gone(pretty darn cheap!) Don't forget....Dinner is on us, over at the Lodge.

I am very much looking forward to this :)

Now, for the Saturday tee times by division (subject to change):

MPO - 7:45 a.m.
FPO - 8:27 a.m.
MPM - 8:41 a.m.
MPG - 8:55 a.m.
MA1 - 9:02 a.m.
FW1 - 10:12 a.m.
MM1 - 10:26 a.m.
MG1 - 10:33 a.m.
MA2 - 10:40 a.m.
MA3 - 11:50 a.m.

These are the times the first card of each division will tee off. The order does NOT match up to how it's posted in the PDGA Tour player list, and we will post individual tee times by Friday morning at the latest.

Lala said they were very loose on Monday, but with the big rain early yesterday morning, they are much better.
A few folks will be at the park this evening finishing up....mostly more tamping. After that, they'll be good to go.

They do look &amp; feel much better (as of yesterday). Even with what the Double R does before an event, I have not seen so much work go into a course before the big day. Thank you PJ for your OCD &amp; thanx to Waterloo for ALL their hard work on the course. Even if the boxes do crumble &amp; end up like sheet after (or during) the weekend, you still worked your arses off to do everything you could to make them right. Ya'll ROCK :cool:

Mark tweeked his knee throwing one of the best drives on #7 I've seen in a while in the mini on Tuesday. I wish I could say it was something other than the new limstone box causing the injury but...

I'm sure he'll recover but there's something about falling backwards and touching your heel to the small of your back that might hurt a little. :eek:

The side? Where are you from? I thought you have 3 meteres directly back from the front line. We should be able to find a safe spot with in the allowed area. They're way better than they were before the rain. I'm sure our TeeD will make a safe judgement for us all.

That is the "no tee pad" rule.

"If a tee pad is provided, all supporting points must be on the pad at the time of release, unless the director has specified a modified teeing area for safety reasons."

Agreed ... the boxes have settled in good and tight from the rain. However, as of Wed. tee box on #6 (just before the street bridge) was SOAKED! It doesn't get the sunlight due to the hanging brush overhead. I'm in hopes that it has dried out somewhat since Wed.
Also, I pray that the water has gone down some. The gang worked hard putting in large rocks as a walk-thru on #3 and Wed. they were under water.
The Waterloo crew busted their tails and did a great job in the make ready. Thank you Waterloo homies. You're awesome!

Things are flowing nicely out there today.

I think -8 is leading MPO (Alex Downs). Sounds like a whole lot of people shot around -1.

The course looks as good as I can remember it in quite some time. The tee boxes are no problem at all.

Heading back for the second round in a few minutes.

Hemmeline is the only open player to shoot under in the second round (-3), and is tied with Alex Downs for the lead (-5 on the day). Anthony Daman is leading MA1 (-5 for the day).

Second round was played with all pins in their longest position.

Wow! It was very cool tooling by the Lamar side of the course and seeing so many folks I knew out there! My daughter thought I knew half of the disc golfers out there! (Oh wait - I do!!!) :D

We ended up going and checking out Circle C in the afternoon. That course was looking pretty good, but we'd never have found our way around the whole course if we hadn't hitched up with Ben (from Dallas) who knew the course well...many thanks Ben!

It sure was hard to just drive by Pease though...maybe next year I'll finally get to play in COTO. Good luck everyone.

So where are the dang scores????

If you've got computer access enough to post up tee times, then why can't results be posted as well? It's relatively the same cut and paste method as is used here on the message board...

We had a lot of homies playing up there this weekend, and I'd sure like to see how they all did.

Oh, and John, Mike just "loved" the minis. Lou is now at the top of Mike's list for forever immortalizing that unique Olse trick shot. ;)

btw. Mike graciously signed the minis for anyone who asked him, free of charge!!!!!!!!! :D

That's not what i heard.....

I was told that "he rolled his eyes, turned away, and started yelling Who did this? You, bastards! Whos responsible for this?

He knows it was Lou but he doesnt know who all of the co-conspirators are. Hes vowed to pay all of us back but if he does something, Im sure Lou will get the worst of it. He is still accusing people that werent involved in it."

I think a second run is in order. :D

Fortunately for you pranksters I have a great sense of humor. Which I prove time and again by hanging out with you guys!!! I'm a bleeding heart lib. and tend to show compassion towards the mentally challenged.

I would have done the same to any of you bums, I'm just p****d I didn't think of it first!!!!!

Don't worry, revenge will be sweet. Remember that picture of Lou in a g-string (sorry about that image!) giving Myhero, the Legend, and the Bubble a "massage". Yeah, that picture will look really good on a full color Surge (pun intended).

Thanks for the laugh! :cool:

Hi,

I want to thank everyone for a great tournament. SuperGirl (Nicole) enjoyed the tournament and playing with ladies on her cards. Scoring wise, her rounds were very inconsistent.

Round 1 score: +19
Round 2 score: +31 (<font color="blue">front nine +21 </font>  back nine +10)
Round 3 score: +29 (front nine +7  <font color="blue"> back nine +22</font>)

Some examples:

Hole 7:
* Round 2 - circle 9
* Round 3 - 5
Hole 9:
* R2 - 7 (no OB)
* R3 - 4 (missed a 15 foot putt for 3)
Hole 10:
* R2 - 3 (drove 20 feet pass the hole, missed birdie putt)
* R3 - 7
Hole 13:
* R2 - 5 (missed 15 foot putt for 4)
* R3 - 10

Now that school and soccer are winding down, we plan to play more disc golf (and basketball). That should improve her consistency. We also plan to practice her putts. In round three, she 3-putted on hole 17 from 12 feet. After the 3-put on 17, she 3-putted from 15 feet on hole 18. The back to back 3-putts put her in 5th place, one stroke out of 4th place.

Lastly, she also enjoyed watching the pro women play the final nine and watching Mel and Shannon in the playoff.

Thanks again for a great tournament..Rick and Nicole
