This is our first trek to the KOA Jam and we are trying to get an idea about camp site reservations.....
Anyone know if you really need one?
I called and the lady and she said all they have left is the more spendy water and electric tent trailer sites.
Has anyone who attended the event in the past had any trouble finding a place to camp without having a reservation?
Jr. and me would be willing to share the cost with anyone willing to put up with us :D
Any takers...??
magilla
May 05 2007, 02:24 AM
You might not have that easy a time finding space without a reservation......
Best bet would be to either find someone to split one of the sites left..OR find someone that is will to "cram" you into their tent site.. :D
They are actually very nice. They are much better than normal "Tent Area" and give you Power & Water at the site.
The entire campground (except Pull-thru sites) will be PACKED....
Last year with 166 players there were OVER 250 campers including non-playing family members..
This is why we will be doing "overflow" parking out at Long #1's pin...Last year we had issues with keeping Fire Lanes open :p That can not happen this year...

I have a nice regular creekside tent campsite reserved which I might not be using. Our friends booked cabins and may have room for us in one. I'll find out for sure in the next few days. Send me a pm with your contact info and I'll call the KOA and see if I can transfer the reservation to your name, if you're interested.
Coming all the way accross the country, I'd rather stay in the cozy Kampin Kabins!
Hey Mike - is anyone organizing a glow golf side tourney for nightime yet? Has the KOA gotten more light-up baskets? Got my LED's all ready to go!

Anyone willing to split the cost of a campsite? I know, all the campsites are all gone. BUT, if you don't mind a VW van parked in your area we could maybe squeeze in a deal. Otherwise we'll be asking for a courtesy wake up call in the Safeway parking lot!

I feel that I need to address some "mis-conceptions"... :o
1.) This is NOT the last KOA Pro/Am Jam /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
2.) YES the KOA has sold to NEW owners...NO the course is NOT being removed....EVER...
Ive heard MANY "Rumors" filtering thru the KOA itself AND around.... Here is the story...
My Uncle bought the KOA Campground in 1994...in 1995 we started a course design...in 1996 we held our first event...
in 1999 ALL 18 baskets were in the ground permanent, thanks to MANY donations from players, etc... :D:D:D
My Uncle has decided to move on and has been looking for a "Buyer" for the last year or so....After 3 NO GO's the are now in escrow with a British family that absolutly LOVES the campground and EVRYTHING in it.
The tournament was marketed to them as 1 of its yearly events (We do SELL OUT the campground EVRY YEAR) and they saw that a a BIG PLUS...they are also interested in doing MORE events.....
Since my family is no longer going to be "in charge" (face it, its ALOT easier on me dealing with family with an event this large) and the fact that Ive relocated 8hrs away into Oregon, I have decided that this year will be the LAST one that I RUN......
I will be "passing the torch" to Kevin Parkhurst & the UFOS Club...I am QUITE sure that they will be able to run this event just as it has been for the past 12 years...and continue its tradition LONG into the future...:cool:
There you have it............ :D
Word has it that the Campground has MORE reservations than we have ever had......SO with 166 players LAST YEAR.... :o
:D

Does anyone need a nice creekside tent site? I have one reserved but I am staying in a cabin and I don't want to lose my deposit. Let me know by post or private message as soon as possible!!! I will just cancel my reservation by tomorrow if I don't hear from anyone. If you want it - I'll just keep the reservation on my credit card and you can pay me cash.

Dave....I am QUITE sure that we can get that site filled without the need to cancel....The campgrounds are going to be PACKED anyway so it wont be an issue.
What day does your reservation start?
You can do it either way....BUT Im sure I can get you your money back either way.....I do have an inside connection ;)

Mike,
I have a kabin reservation for Friday and Saturday nights that I can't use (and mistakenly thought had been cancelled). I have tried calling the KOA phone numbers and haven't been able to speak with anyone but I have left a message and sent an e-mail. (BTW, the 800 number rings to a fax...)
Any chance you can work some magic for me, also?
I can PM you with details if necessary.

If anyone is interested in that Kabin reservation, please PM me! I found out that I can transfer the reservation to someone else, but it has to be by noon Friday!!
The Kabins are great - stayed in one last summer.

checked out the tour de rizbee, impressive effort over the years. As a dad with a junior player who is now in college and off tour, nothing more fun than playin with the kid but they win almost all the time. Hope to meet you in willits. MC 17353

MC - I won't be in Willits - couldn't put together the travel group necessary. I hope someone enjoys my cabin. :(
The Tour de Rizbee is a great time for us! This year will be a long haul, but a great time. We will be printing up some custom discs to commemorate it, if you're interested. I hope to make it to Willits next year, and some other NorCal events as well.

Matt Kelly - plays up vs. the Pro Masters, places and denies the cash. Looks like someone is prepping for Milwaukee?

Jun 04 2007, 02:15 PM
Yes, I believe Mr. Kelly is doing just that.
I certainly appreciate it too! :D
I'd like to thank Mike and the rest of the staff for showing us such a great time!
I accidentally lost my disc retriever in the pond at hole #6. If anyone dredges it out of there (it's under the branch on the right where I'm sure a whole bunch of discs are), my suggestion would be to donate it to the course or local club for continued use at that pond (or other ones nearby.) I'll get another one.
If anyone is in regular communication with the Kampground or local DGers, please pass this info on to them.
Thanks,
-JPB

Jun 06 2007, 04:25 AM
My guess on the distance, judging by my abilities, is 365'. I was pin high backhand and forehand and I really can't throw backhand any farther than that.
Great job Matt! The only bad thing about you not accepting cash is that it only trickles down!

Thank you -- that was one of my longest birdies (ever)-- I was about 15 feet past it in the second round and made the head wind putt.
Congrats to you too Rich - you played great. Even if you don't like playing in the wind. :)
BTW: on the lead card were two of the best side-arm throwers I've ever come across. Rich and Brett both use the two-finger as their go-to throw. Big headwind on hole 15 and both rounds I played with them they both stepped up and they snapped anhyser flicks that nearly based the pin. Then Rich threw another in the 3rd round on 16 that crashed the chains, but fell out.
I don't know how many aces there were, but we saw someone get hole 18 -- and there seemed to be constant cheering coming from all over the course during our third round.
What a good time!

Here is what I remember: 5 aces....
Chris Sweet - Int.men - Hole 16 round one with a thumber
Mark Bohn Jr. - Int. men - Hole 14 round 2 sidearm (Thats my boy!)
Zack Beaudet - Rec - Hole one round 3 (No fear in this kid!)
Nate - adv or pro? Hole 18!!! last round on sunday...Saw that one from tee to basket... big hyzer Wow!
Donnie Miller - Adv. - Hole 5!!!!!!! last round on sunday... I still can't believe that one!! WOW!! How long is that hole?
Donnie said it s-curved and had just enough to go in at the last second!!
Great tournament.. Next year I'm taking a week off and going straight from the KOA to the Steady Ed and playing golf all week in between!

Id like to thank ALL who came out and supported the KOA effort this past weekend. It was the largest field yet and with a total of 22 women one of the largest womens fields of ANY B Teir in the nation. :D
My ONLY regret is the fact that I hired a LAME DUCK trophy guy and didnt have my trophies for the event.:o:mad::o
Sooo these will be shipped out AS SOON AS I get them.. :o
MOST everything went as well as could be expected..... awards did run a "Little" long & late.. :(
I think there were 6 aces on the weekend (8 shy of last year :p) BUT this years were a bit more exciting....#'s 5, 14, 16 & 18 are not easy holes by any means... :D
It was good to see so many "long time" attendees as well as some "Long Distance" travelers (Dave & Alyssa Densen traveled from NY,NY just to play ) :D
Next year the UFOS take over as I bring back the PDGA Match Play Championships....Site TBA... ;) :D
