So this is my first year for the Spring Sling. For those of you familiar with the course/tournament, whats the layout like? Is it any different then how the course is now?

dangle
Apr 17 2007, 10:23 PM
It looks like you have to shoot well under par to contend

MTL21676
Apr 17 2007, 10:34 PM
The course has 17 dueces on it and the 18th hole can be dueced, but do to OB, most people do not try to duece.

The only hole I throw a driver on is the hole mentioned above - it truly is a shootout.

dangle
Apr 17 2007, 10:44 PM
Is there anymore OB besides 18? (thats the one where the pad is in the middle of the circle?)

MTL21676
Apr 17 2007, 11:37 PM
oh yeah - the parking lot by 1 and 18 and possibly 15.

The road that goes in the back which comes into play on 2 8 9 and especially 11.

The tennis courts are OB too, as well as in the pool.

deoldphart
Apr 20 2007, 03:04 PM
You are correct with one addition, the road and beyond on hole 5.

Like you said it will be back and forth all year. I have a lot of respect for your game, we have both grown a great deal over the last several months. It has really helped me with my game, to have so many new challenges each week. Regardless of the final outcome we will both be better for it. I am trying to make the most out of this opportunity although the funds are getting low and the miles are building up. I may have to start missing a few here and there. I haven't been able to miss much playing "catch up golf". Jessica needs me to be home more but this is my only chance to make a run with the baby on the way. I was really looking forward to this event also. And I know someone might say do that stuff next weekend, but I am taking Mrs Scotty to the beach for a day or two nest weekend so she can get away also and relax.

Pre Tnmt doubles held, Winners with a -10 Logan Sheete, and Wyatt Coggin. What to do with the ace pool. We had a one shot for the ace pool at my cart which was about 180 ft, Andrew Coggins held off all competitors untill David Wiggins stepped up and decided to put it in my cart. Kudos, see ya"ll in the am.

Time has come.

well if the course is changed and harder due to new OB, doesn't that mean that it's technically a different course and therefore the 40 I shot today would be the new course record?? ;)

nice sunday you mean :D

naw, it was a great come back for me.

The lead card shot 20 20 20 21 21 on the front nine, me and McRee were the 21's.

We all miss hole 10.

Hole 11 is 405 with lots of "here and there" trees, OB pin high left and the entire right side. Very tough 2. Most ppl play for three.

I just throw an S with my max knowing it will hzyer away from the OB. Well I just ripped the crap out of it and was 30 away, made the putt for the big duece. Two too circle 5's on the hole.

That was pretty much what got me going. It was the best come back I've ever had, considering how poorly I played Saturday.

3rd...Thanks Rocky (for the kids) Geist and the Sanford crew! Also, lets have a shout-out for the nice womens turn out, 7 lady Disc Golfers. I got to watch the advanced women throw for two rounds (Sat), lots of good shots, and they did what, all but one of the Pro players could not do on the first day, shoot above their player rating average. Nice going ladies.

Thanks Guy's, it was the help of alot of players , Mike Norris, Stick, MTL, and Wyatt Coggins that came in real handy. Special Thanks to them.
It was a great tournament, Logans awsome record setting round, Brian Spencers -20 first day performance only to be pursued by Ben Hailey, Chase Jernigan, and Chris Warf whom kept it very interesting. Jerry Roaches -7 first round to win by 1 stroke to Jamie, and that tight battle in Advance Masters, great weekend playing with Dave, Gary, and Wiz and watching that. Just an awsome weekend.
Thanks to all for being on time, that kept things moving smooth, and all the smiles I witnessed. Hope to see all next year, I learned alot from the powers to be, and soaked up some good advice from our leaders. Thanks

Now we go to sleep

Is there a blog on the Alamance Shootout, couldn't find one.

You bet, and thankyou for all your help with logistical help. Can't wait to do it again, and improve on it. Just some awsome memories from this past weekend, from Lil Wiggins winning the ace pool on fri dbls into my cart, to all the competition of the leaders trying to defend the lead from the onslaught of players challenging. Just Awsome. Next time we need to get Big Wig a little more tired.

Had a great weekend Rocky, Bones, FFF, and the Sanford crew.
I never could get that hot round I wanted, but it was there. I'll just try again next year. The SSS is my PDGA anniversary tournament and marks a full two years of disc golf for me. The course looked better than ever and I know a lot of work was done. Thanks to Mike and Stick for helping with the scores. Congratulations to all and see you in Kinston at the King's Cup II!

Its the same article I had taped on the pole at registration. Would have placed a picture in the paper but no one took any that I know of, and the sportswriter didn't show Sat as scheduled. Tried to get a pic of some of the world champs for publicity. Working on a followup.

Story as it appeared in Sanford Herald

Pro disc golf tourney coming to Sanford
From pros to mens and womens novice divisions, PDGA is open to spectators and has free admission

By RANDY QUIS
Herald Staff Writer
SANFORD A number of professional golfers will be in Sanford this weekend, but these golfers dont play on the PGA Tour.
On Saturday and Sunday, O.T. Sloan Park will host the Sanford Slingers Spring Sling III. The tournament is a sponsored Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) event.
There will be some talented disc golfers on hand, Tournament Director Rocky Geist said. Well have several top pros on hand along with two amateur champions. It should be quite interesting to watch the skill and technique they use to throw with. The format of disc golf is very similar to that of the traditional golf game. However, the main difference is that a disc, or Frisbee, is used in place of clubs and balls. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the hole, which is usually an elevated metal object that makes an audible sound on contact. Just like traditional golf, the surrounding terrain creates obstacles for the player. Once the disc lands, it is
considered a stroke, and the goal is to amass the fewest strokes.
Probably the most appealing difference between disc golf and traditional golf is that you can play disc golf for free. It doesnt matter who you are, where you are, or what you have anyone can play at any time.
There will be a number of different divisions in the tournament for competitors to compete in. Along with a division open to the public, there will be mens and womens novice, intermediate and professional divisions, as well as an advanced professional division for both genders.
The competitors will play four separate rounds, the first and second on Saturday, and the third and fourth on Sunday. The first round is set to tee off shortly after 10 a.m. An individual round is usually played in roughly 90 minutes. There is no admission fee and spectators are welcome.
Disc golf is special because it is something that everybody can do, Geist said.
You dont have to be able to jump high or run fast. It gives you a great chance to get outside and enjoy your company while doing something fun.
