I was reading the latest Disc Golf Magazine and they advertised Legacy (10 or 20yr member) Tags that the PDGA was promoting.

How do you get one of these tags? I am not sure of my exact 1st sign-up date but it has to be getting close or past 10yrs..

I have already renewed for the year and didn't notice that on the renewal form.

Chuck - chime in with the help here :D

I don't remember getting a 10-year tag in 1999 or 2000 but maybe this program started after that? Have to contact PDGA HQ.

Adam,
My 20 year Legacy tag came with my membership renewal package.

I wonder how many 30 year tags went out???

Five years from now at the earliest, right? PDGA founded in 1982.

legacy tags started last year jan'06...you had to be CURRENT 20 CONSECUTIVE years to get one...

10 year tags started this year jan'07 and you had to be.... you guessed it :D.....CURRENT 10 CONSECUTIVE years to get one....

if/when you renew in '07 if you have met either criteria you'll get one...

if not..all together now... :Dyou guessed it again......
you won't get one....

keep renewing and supporting the pdga!!!

do it for 5 years at a time like i did :D, then after renewing only twice you'll get your 10 year tag :D:D

Aren't the earliest numbers original DGA members, wouldn't they qualify for 30 years? Maybe Snapper?

would 17684 qualify for 10 yrs??? I really don't recall when I registered...I threw my first disc in 1989

I think the first numbers were assigned in 1982 with Ed being 001. It's interesting that nowhere on this PDGA website does it give a brief history of how the PDGA started and when. You would think that might be fundamental info on the What is Disc golf page or the Membership page.

14540 should be up for 10 years in '08. You might have to wait another year or so. I signed up in late 1998 and got the wrap-around deal through 1999, I think.

That's a novel idea.

Ed was #001 for DGA, I have several mini's [business cards] from the late 70's. Didn't he turn over the reigns to the PDGA?

I began playing in '82, didn't know anything about the PDGA until '85, joined in '87.

Keith, will I get a 10-year tag next year? I'll 10 years worth of continuous PDGA cards, but will have only paid dues for 9 years.

I still have my first card: Intermediate Master in 1998.

<font color="blue"> and 10 years later you are STILL in the same division  :D
it took me only playing adv masters for 8 months before turning pro and losing bets to you and magilla on a regular basis :p :D

<font color="blue"> it goes by member years of pdga...if you did the sign up in sept to get all of next year deal(any year)...you were really a member for both 4 months and the full year, and you just got points, benefits, magazines etc. for the "extra" 4 months... so you should be 10 years from the calendar year that you got the 4 months...

of course this is all from my opinion of the way it is and someone that works at the idgc may see it differently ,but i feel confident that i'm correct (like most times i post :D)

I guess someone at the PDGA made a mistake when they sent me a 20-year legacy tag last year (joined 1986) since I was NOT current for 20 consecutive years. But they're not getting it back! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My guess is that the PDGA member records are sketchy before a certain date. Not sure what date that would be.

I got my 10 year tag this year. (joined in 1990)

I can't remember if I was ever not current for a year. if I wasn't, it would have been around 1993-95.

Incorrect. One of my buddies got a ten year tag this year. He joined in '97 renewed '98 and then took the intervening years off only renewing last year and this. Apparently you can sign up and then renew in 20 years and get your tag...or the PDGA botched it. (nahhhh)

Botched it! That sounds right!! Sign up once get a 10-year tag, twice 20-year tag, should we go any further??  God bless Ricky Wright! :D:D

maybe they knew he was your friend and didn't want to make you angry :D

like i said if i'm wrong i'm sure someone would let me know...

i know it started this year for 10 year tags and it may have had the rules relaxed from the legacy tags...or your buddy may have just bought a regular bag tag and just told you it was a 10 year tag , so you could call me out :D

either way i don't care, i've got mine and next year lorelei will get hers (she joined in 97 when she was born , but did NOT get a 10 year tag which is why i thought you had to be 10 full years and then get a tag) and that's all that matters to me....

that and the fact that you "maybe"proved me wrong once and i have proved you wrong several times  :D

and of course that you are MUCH FUNNIER than i am, in person and on the message board

PDGA #11957. Joined in December, 1996. Received a 10 year card.

Someone with a 14000 or 17000 number will not be getting a 10 year tag for a few years.

I'll let you guys know when I get my 30 year tag in 2009. :D I received my 20-year tag last year, after having been a "lifetime" member for 27 years - of course I was not active for about 15 years... I agree with Chuck that the early records are rather sketchy - remember, we didn't have computers and databases when this thing got started! When I put together the first course directory in 1985 I used the text editor on my Commodore 64 computer, typing from the handwritten notes that Ed had for courses he had sold and installed.

Who woulda thunk back then that the PDGA would get to the point where we could have on-line arguments about Hawk's rotating avatar of bimbos, much less on-line tournament results and player ratings, etc.

Although in 1985 I made formal presentations to Rand McNally and AAA to show them a software search idea I prototyped on an Apple II to help travelers find lodging and attractions within a certain radius of their location that met their search criteria for cost, ratings, kid friendly, etc. I would work with them to get their current paper directories and ratings into a database. In retrospect, about 15 to 20 years ahead of my time since they didn't think their paper guides would ever be passed by computer methods. TravaComp International, Inc. is still my registered corporation resulting from that initiative.

Chuck....

i joined the PDGA on memorial Day weekend of 1977. So i will be a PDGA active member for 30 years as of about 2 months from now. I believe i may have joined at just about the earliest public event the pdga held at the Craigmeur course in Newfoundland, NJ. it was the same weekend as the "other" first PDGA event ever that Tom Monroe hosted in Alabama the same weekend. i joined the pdga that day and was given my number by ed headrick and/or Stork and/or gary seubert.

i was given PDGA # 310 even though my friend Tom Gockel who was in line right in front of me got PDGA # 165. evidently the numbers were given out randomly that weekend. amazing how it made no difference that weekend, but if Tom and i had switched places in line my PDGA number would be about 50% lower than it is.

i'd love to hear about the legacy tags. i guess i'm almost as eligible as anyone.

From the DGA website:

"The first formal Disc Golf Course was designed and installed that same year (1975) in Oak Grove Park, (Pasadena, California), by Headrick and was an instant success. He also founded the Professional Disc Golf Association in 1975, which he turned over to the players in 1983."

Mar 14 2007, 06:49 PM
Many of the folks with *really* low numbers got theirs at the World Frisbee Chmpionships (WFC) held at the Rose Bowl in 1976 - Ed was signing up players at that event.

I got my 4-digit number in 1979. I was not a PDGA member but played in and cashed at a qualifier for the Wham-O $50,000 Disc Golf Tournament. When I received my prize check, $15 had been deducted for my lifetime PDGA membership.

Apparently there's only a 20-yr and 10-yr tag program currently. No reason the 30-yr couldn't be added but someone may need to dig out some old paper records.

Vinnie, I signed up in the Spring of 1990 to play the Am Worlds in Wichita KS. (5380)

You had to be a member to play, that is why a lot of us got numbers that year.

I wish I had signed up when I played my first tournament in 1988.
