I have access to a motorized golf pull cart that I have rigged to hold my disc golf bag and other items. The cart is designed to hold a ball golf bag, it's not big enough or powerful enough to carry a person. I was prepared to use this cart at a recent tournament but was warned that there was a rule against use of motorized carts. I see no such rule in the PDGA rulebook. Is there a rule against use of motorized bag carts? If so, why? If you can have a caddy to carry your bag of discs and you can use a pull cart, why not one with a motor? I have played in sanctioned tournaments on a ball golf course that allow use of carts to carry people and bags. Why would that be legal but the bag-only cart illegal?

It's in the competition manual.

Section 3.5.E

http://www.pdga.com/documents/td/07CompetitionManual.pdf

Not really sure why since caddies are allowed and 3.5.A already requires that you walk (not ride) during your round.

I suspect it may be due to noise. A caddy knows the appropriate time to make any noise and at what volume versus a motor.

I've played in the Friz where there are carts ALL OVER THE PLACE. Never has a cart been a problem noise-wise when playing. The carts aren't THAT noisy and you can't expect absolute silence in the great out doors.

Now the donuts some folks were doing with the carts apres-golf.... that's another subject. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Depends on whether it's a gas motor or electric motor. But rules people don't want to have to specify what type of motor would be too noisy or not.

But the question here is about a motorized push-cart.

We're just speculating here. Send a note to the Rules Committee and the Tour Director to get the official word.

I will do just that. It is an electric motorized cart. The accelerator is a knob on the handle of the cart. It is very very quiet - just as quiet as a human caddy. It is also fully under my control, so if anyone has a noise complaint during their shot I would obviously be responsible.

Ain't THAT the truth! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The point is that even at the Friz, the carts were never a distraction. Now the nude golfer dude from a few years back.... I hear THAT was distracting. :p
