For the first time ever, Pauls Valley, OK will host a PDGA "B" Tier and SN Qualifier event. The format is 1 day - 36 Holes + Final 9. The City of Pauls Valley and local businesses are contributing cash and prizes to make this a BIG event.

So mark your calendar for MAY 5, 2007. If you like tournaments that have a great payday, then this is one you won't want to miss.

I can't wait for this tournament, it should be alot of fun. You throw great tournaments Tom. With this being a one day event, how many people will you allow in ? And is it possible this could turn into a two day event if it fills ? So I know how to plan out my weekend.

I will definitely be at this event.

Thanks for the kind words Darren. We will cap at 90. This is one day and we only have 18 holes to work with, so 90 means 5 player cards. It will not turn to a two day event, one day only. The REAL TD is Brian Black, the Pastor of Pauls Valley Community Church. He is also the leader of the local club and in with the City leaders. My point is, he works on Sunday, so Saturday is it. He is putting a great event together and all I am doing is just helping with the details and getting the word out. Since none of the locals in Pauls Valley are PDGA members of Rules Officials, I am the TD of record.

Let me assure everyone, it will be run this time and always in the same fashion as I run all events I have anything to do with, FUN and PRIZES abound!!!!!!!!!!!;)

Just so everyone knows, the Pauls Valley Flightline Cub is making a donation to the JDGF to continue building scholarships, but this is not an Official "JDGF" event.

Hope to see you all there. You can also check out the link in the first post on this thread for a printable registration form or go to Texas Oklahoma Disc Golf (http://txokdg.com) and find one there and we will have on-line registration available very soon..

No carry overs, the folks that contribute will take it home. If no ace, we will throw a CTP and the three closest will split it 50%, 30% and 20% respectively.

However, I do expect an ace or two at this course. :D

Tee pads?
All holes have very nice concrete pads and super nice granite tee signs.

Open wooded?
a few trees on the front, not much to worry about and pretty open on the back. Wind will be the biggest factor. If it is light, scores will be low, if it is over 15mph, it will be a major factor.

Here's an update on the upcoming FIRST event ever in Pauls Valley, OK.

The City of Pauls Valley has donated $750.00 in cash for the Pro purse, along with a local doctor who has donated $100.00 to go along with it!!

Also, a local Salsa maker is putting up $$$ for an ace on the hole he sponsored.

Now that's what I call a City wanting to host a PDGA Tournament! :D

We have much more to come....maybe a DJ towel ??? and more

Here is a link to the Tournament Web Site (http://www.txokdg.com) and here is a link to the Registration Form (http://www.txokdg.com/files/2007 Flightline Open Registration.pdf)

Brice,

This is just another way that the City and people of Pauls Valley are trying to accommodate any Disc Golfers that travel. They thought some might come in Friday for doubles and want to just stay in town.

I am going over Friday after noon and will just be staying. So will a few that I know from Stillwater, and I though that some of you guys from the DFW are might want to do the same.

There has been a lot of interest from this part of the world. I have gotten many calls and several registrations mailed in I am not going to take online registration for this one. So if you want to register early and help a TD out, please mail one in.

I will be out there on Friday afternoon to take registrations and we will take them Saturday morning from 7:30am until 9:00am. That way we can have the players meeting by 9:50 and get the cards out very close to 10:00.

BTW, Juniors will only play two 9 hole rounds, in an effort to keep a good pace of play.

Yea Drew is playing hot right now but Coda is too, won a B tier by 9, A tier by 7 and lost to Climo by 1 at a NT.

Since the tournament is going to be on Cinco De Mayo, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a pinata. And maybe fill it with mini's and towels and anything golf related. Instead of swinging a stick, we could take turns throwing disc at it and whoever bust it wins the stuff inside.

With all the banter on the discussion board about Cinco de Mayo, I think Ive lined up the womens group from Iglesia Metodista San Mateo (the Methodist Hispanic church) to be the food vendor for lunch on Saturday. They sell food at a lot of local events and always serve good food at a reasonable price. Plus its fresh and authentic. I am hungry already!!!!

Adam, If we go over 90, we will have some issues to deal with since there is only 18 holes and we are not planning to add any. If we had 90 pre-register, we would cap there, but I really don't want to turn anyone away on Saturday morning. So with that said, pre-register if you can, it will really help us get going on Saturday morning. We will have folks coming in not only from OK and TX, but I have already gotten registrations from AR and MO with those folks telling me more are coming.

We are already having the Jrs. playing after the 1st round and again after the 2nd round before the final 9 and they are only playing 9 hole rounds, to help with the flow. If the crowd is big enough, we could split in to 2 flights.

Anyway, we are looking for a lot of fun and a great opener for Pauls Valley.

BTW, I'll be at the course Friday afternoon to take any registration for those that might want to come early.

So please help the event out (the TD actually :D) and pre-register if you can. It will sure help us run much smoother Saturday morning getting started.

If you have Pre-registered, but still need to pay, you need to check-in BEFORE 9:00am

Hadn't been down I-35 lately but there is usually some kind of construction on it. Being that early on a Saturday, I doubt it would be too bad.

then you ain't played in Okie land yet. That is the only place Ii have ever had a discs land behind me when I threw.

Once at the Norman Pro/Am and another at WillyWood.

The Norman one was like hole 17 out of the creak, short to the basket. I landed behind me next to the last hole. (I think it was #18)

The Woodson was one of the longer holes. The wind was blowing so hard, my Barracuda turned over, caught and edge and rolled more than 100 ft behind me. My second shot was only about 100 ft back in front of the tee box.

Tonight...Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 60s. South winds around 10 mph.

Friday...Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Friday Night...Partly cloudy. Lows around 70. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Directions: I-35 to Pauls Valley (exit 72). Go east on Hwy 19 (Grant St.) 2.6 miles to a right at the last light before RR tracks onto Chickasaw St. (Hwy 77). Go 2.3 miles to airport entry (past John Deere), turn right to parking lot and 1st tee at airport terminal.

If your coming from the south, get of at exit #64 (Hwy 29), go east one mile to Hwy 77, go north 4 miles to airport entrance on the left.

If you've looked at an online map and are thinking of getting off at airport road the road is closed to the airport, and unless you know your way around that's not the way to go.

As far as the course, its wide open and wind is a factor. I played today, the grass is tall so rollers will be tough.

Everything considered I had a good time this weekend! I will say though, I am about sick and tired of all the sandbagging going on. It doesnt matter what your player rating is, if you are capable of putting up MULTIPUL 1000 rated rounds you shouldnt be playing anything but open divisions. And when you think about it, baggers are cheating them selves more then others. There were several guys this weekend playing am that would have taken home a nice chunk of change rather a few discs. You guys know who you are, think about it.

Thanks again Tom for a good tourny! I will be back next year!

i don't know who you are talking about because I wasn't there.

BUT, there are a lot of people in advanced who can play really well and shoot close to a 1000 rated golf in advanced and then shoot 900 golf the next tourney. I don't think those people should be given a hard time about playing advanced.

May 06 2007, 02:28 PM
If your player rating is above 960 then you should be playing open. I got 2nd place in a super tour with a 966 player rating so you don't have to have a 990 rating to compete.

The big question I want answered cause I left early was did Pee Wee cash?? Kevin I dont know any advanced player that shoots a 1000 rated round once and then shoots a 900 rated round, unless u have done it.

randy forsander and bubba have both done it more than once. Randy shot close to 1000 rated golf with a 1038 rated round at the twisted flyer open. I think he would have gotten 3rd in open at the same tourney. But there is no way you can say he SHOULD be playing open.

JD Ramirez - 1st
Coda Hatfield -2nd
Drew Ethridge and Andy Newberry - tied for 3rd
Brice Longerbone - 5th
Pee Wee - 6th

Pee Wee cashed in open for the first time in his life. He was shooting some pretty good golf.

Now that I've had a good nights sleep, I wanted to share my thoughts on this inaugural event.

First and foremost I'd like to Thank Brian and Britton for all their hard work prior to the event and the day of. Without their effort, this tournament would not have happened.

The City of Pauls Valley Tourism Department for a $750 cash sponsorship to the pro purse.

The ladies that came out and cooked the fantastic Cinco deMayo lunch!!! Man those homemade tortillas were great! :D

Thanks to the Twisted One for his donations, and Daryl Johnson for running the ROF, and to the Dolese club for their donations and to Brice Longerbone for making those granite CTP trophies and donating them to the event. (those thing weighed a ton :D)

Now about the tournament....Congrats to all the winners, J.D. came back with a hot final 9 to just barely slip by Coda. Both played super and deserve congrats.

We did fill....there were many folks, who despite the warnings of the TD, showed up on Saturday morning without pre-registering. To all those folks, I offer condolences, and hope in the future Okies will learn that pre-registration is becoming very important. There were about 20 that had to be turned away. As a TD, I do not like to turn any player away, but the course was completely full, 5 somes on every hole and 1 ghost card....for a total of 95 players.

We had over $1400 in added cash to the pros, so those that missed it, sorry.

With all that, let's look to next year, bigger and better. Brian has already said we will make it a 2 dayer next year, which means we can have flights and twice the capacity. With that said, I am also expecting twice the added cash, which I see happening very easily.

Thanks to all and to all.......we'll see you next year!!!!

ps....do yourself and the TD of any event you play a favor in the future, and Pre-Register. :D

Discboomer up out of bed @ 4:30
Discboomer drives 2 + hours to pauls valley
Discboomer plays 3 rounds of golf ( 1 practice , 2 tournament )
Discboomer starts his final 9 @ 6 p.m.

I was soooo done by the end of the last round, just in time to find out I have a monster final 9 to go...

I did not stand a chance.. I was not very pleased with that . Going from my 1st cash in open, to the worst final 9 of my life, to going home empty handed.. It was not a very fun ride home .

But I learned alot . Had fun with Coda, Brice, Shawn, Drew, and yes even PeeWee... Congrats Jason, you have been working for that money alot longer than I have . Good shooting !

Oh, BTW, Coda, you ace run on hole 9 during the first round was worth the drive, time , and money.... Incredible !

Would have cashed in PRO and we had another one in MA1 that would have cashed also

Good to hear there will be another event here next year..a very true Mid-Way point for TX/OK to battle it out

Not an easy task.....approx...480 uphill..(sign said 509, but I don't think it was)....not a slam dunk by any measurement...Birdie is a great score....Ace run....very very nice, Mr. Hatfield... ;)

I happen to like the final nine set up myself. Tom, I think you should have started that final 9 just as soon as the cards came in and you knew who was going to play in it. Then do the ROF afterwards. By then, you could of had all of the payouts ready to go.

It was awful. I had myself out of that round b4 it even started .. I so came into it with the wrong mentality...

Long and the short, I sucked it up. I can make excuses all day long , but the plain truth, I sucked! Worst round of my life!

We live to fight another day, and fight I shall do!

Brice the payouts could have been finished, but there was an interruption factor that you were not aware of. It became so bad Seabolt had to watch my back while I was trying to get things together. I won't go into detail now, but do you remember the guy that was all bent out of shape because he got a 7 for showing up after his group had teed off for the 2nd round? Seabolt's wife watched him leave the park and stop down the road to steal the water jug on 7 on his way out. The only problem with that was very much time was spent harassing me prior to the departure. Needless to say, I had a very bad feeling and could not get anything done. I think either crack or meth was involved and a very messed up individual.
