Does anyone know where you can buy the Japan Open DVD? I just read about it in the Feb/March Disc Golf Magazine, and I'd like to pick it up. Just searched about half a dozen online stores and ebay and didn't see it. Anyone know?

Maybe you can try Hero Disc or Mark at discgolfvalues.

I saw they had it at herodisc, but the site's in Japanese and I couldn't read it. Wasn't sure what 4800 yen or whatever came out to in dollars... ;)

Maybe I'll try Mark. I looked at both Discgolfvalues and Zonedriven, but maybe they have a secret stash.

Thanks!

It has been awhile since I lived there so I am not sure what the rate is but it should be around $45+ in American Dollars.

You could also try John Ahart, he works for Hero.

I emailed John Ahart, and did the transaction that way. I think it was 35 dollars shipped. Arrived in about a week.

The DVD is pretty bad #$*&$!.

So this DVD is awesome. I think Dave's review in Disc Golf Magazine is spot on, so I may be repeating some of what he wrote.

It's a different experience than most disc golf DVDs as you really feel like you're watching a ball golf tournament on TV. Not only is the tourney held on a ball golf course, but you feel the sense of importance that weighs on the competitors, but you can also tell they're having a good time.

The commentary is probably about 15-20 lines total though the whole DVD, which makes it a little quieter and a little slower, but gives you a feel for what the player's are going through. The main footage is the final 9 holes with Avery Jenkins, Steve Rico, Nate Doss, and Barry Schultz. This is quiet with very little commentary and no music, so you can hear the competitors talking to their discs and also the cheers of the crowd. There are many shots of the competitors between holes wiping their discs down and driving in their golf carts. I liked seeing Feldberg wearing Avery's bid and caddying for him, and Climo wearing Barry's bib and driving his cart. Gives you a sense that these guys are friends, too, and not always (or just) competitors. Barry also seems to have a giant goofy smile on his face the entire time. You can tell that he is really genuinely enjoying himself and he's letting it show.

There is also a recap of the first three rounds set to music, highlighting good and bad shots, talking about the weather conditions and the player's feelings about Japan. The Women's final nine, with Val Jenkins, Juliana Korver, Anni Kreml, and Des Reading also gets a highlight reel set to music.

Some other features, too, showing the tea ceremony, player arrivals, different cultural activities, and the player's interacting with the Japanese people. The course and the facility is gorgeous and after seeing what the course is like and how this tournament is run, I am already planning to get my plane ticket for 2008.

This sounds great! I think that this year, I am going to move more towards this type of coverage. I'll have to grab a copy of this dvd and study up!!

The back of the case says 109 minutes. I *think* that might just be for the main part of the DVD, which is the Open final nine. It really lets you watch the whole tournament and examine the atmosphere (as opposed to just seeing each shot and that's it). The Women's final nine and the recap of the first 3 rounds are probably only 10-15 minutes each, at most. In all honesty, I haven't watched all of the extra, tournament atmosphere, off-the-course footage yet because there's so much to it.

It's definitely worth $20. The course is gorgeous and the DVD itself is put together excellently. It's much different than the MSDGC or Skylands DVDs. Can't say which style is better, because it's a style thing, and any disc golf is fun to watch in my opinion.
