Forgive my ignorance, but I see alot of talk here about Ontario's and San Marino's and 9X, 10X, etc. But what are the differences? Are they molded differently? Are the flight characterisitcs different? Are some more stable than others? I'm sorry, but I'm not a big Roc thrower at the moment but it would make alot of conversations on these boards a little easier to understand if I were to know what the difference between these Rocs are.
Dude's Son, I copy/paste a post from an earlier thread to get you started. I will comment more.
Of course each mold was made in it's respective location. That doesn't mean that it's respective disc was made there, only the mold.
My mold observations;
Sannie- Very controlable, long when needed, nice turn when worn, great old plastic, consistant moderate dome. Lot of different tourney stamps and Big Bird.
Ontario- Straight or turnover when new, nice plastic, Various dome shapes, various cool custom stamps and Big Bird, cool colors too.
Rancho- I think the most versitile flight, just overstable, will turn when worn, several years of consistancy until the soft run a few years ago that wore fast and flew great anyway, then there was the poppytop run 1 1/2 year ago, they were very overstable, the new ones seem to be very normal. Big Bird stamp, little bird stamp flying the same direction as the BB stamp, and the newer little bird stamp flying the other direction on the stamp.
These are all DX observations.
8X, 9X, 10X & 11X are all KC Pro Rocs with the number of World Championships he won at the time of that disc. Sometimes the mold or plastic was different so the #X helps ID the disc.
Ching Disc Golf inc. originated the full color high heat digital stamp. The full color Rocs were called Ching Rocs. They came out very flat. I have found them to be pretty straight flyers and after break-in they don't get too understable.
The San Marino, Ontario and Rancho molds were made in that chrono order. Usually the older a popular disc is the more it costs.

So there's really no mold difference at all? I could figure out by their names where they were from, but I thought each was a different mold with a different flight. Is this still correct?

No, they're different molds -- just not super differences in flight (since they are all still Rocs). See mick's first post for his observations of them.

Mick,
Is there going to be a Shreveport challenge this year? i have yet to see it on either sndg or pdga website.
Joe, There will definately be a Shreveport Challenge. I feel certain it will be a PDGA and Southern National event as always. Sorry for the lack of posted info this year. I'll encourage Kev to get some info up. It is usually July or August.
