It could be Kenny vs. Barry in checkers or maybe marbles. I hear Kenny is good at Monopoly and Barry dominates people at scrabble.

We need more Jacob Lopers. I'd rather read his raw enthusiam than the hyper criticisms that are the normal fare here.
The reason most Pros don't come here Jacob is that while some important things can occur here, for this most part this is entertainment. As discette pointed out, for those players, their time is best spent practicing. However, for an up and coming player this is a great resource for learning.
BTW - From what I've seen at tournaments, I think you're better off not knowing what most disc golfers eat for breakfast!
Oh yeah, Ken Climo! As was pointed out, on any given day, which ever player is on is the answer to your question. From there you have to go to history. Ken wins there for the moment and, in the end, Ken will probably have better numbers than Barry, primarily because Ken didn't have to play against a mature Barry for his entire career. Barry also has the added disadvantage that the competition is getting stiffer, exponentially.
The two Pros to pay attention to here are Yeti and Yeti (Des doesn't really post). Yeti and his wife Des are leaders in our sport in terms of education and giving back. They care passionately and contribute diligently.
For sheer entertainment and caring about the average Joe, that's Brian. For trying to grow the Pro aspect in this venue, that's Kevin, who also rates highly in his desire to do the right thing. All these people contribute here, are easily identified and are good for a perspective on what the Pros are thinking.
If you want perspective on the PDGA, Pat is good but remember he is a reformer and sometimes critical, Chuck is the counter voice along with Terry Calhoun.

I really don't have a problem with questions about discs and playing better, but that is a minor amount of his posting activity. Perhaps someone at his home could ask him to limit his message board posts and PM's to only 5 or 10 per day or something like that. This way, he may have to think twice before starting new threads and such.

Jacob's threads are no more self serving than say Matt Hall's, MTL's or Hawk's. He at least has the excuse of being young. I do admit, after a quick perusal of this topic that most of them are... trite in nature. He's also been here long enough to be learning some MB ettiquete, that is, one should get recognition and acceptance from one's family, not from a MB. Coming to the Web for acceptance and recognition can be a dangerous thing.

I didn't analyze his home life. I simply said that he should look for afirmation from home not here. If you look at his threads you'll see he is looking for recognition on this site. If you read up on the issue of children, and Jacob is a child, and web predators, they look for children who come to the web looking for approval and they give it to them.
As a father, I'm quite aware of such issues and concerned about them. Do you think we should not be?

To all that are encouraging our young friend to use this message board as his playground: Do you think it is appropriate for him to read and/or post on any of the threads about 420 or 804.05 violations? If not, then you should lead by example and never post anything about that subject on this message board again, lest he might read it.
Perhaps someone should provide a link to the Ask Hawk Threads? Maybe he would enjoy a good back and forth with Furdog and Twoputt on the Tulsa forum?

lest he might see it on a disc golf course either (but we all know none of that really happens out there... or that much anyway). let's just get him a dandy pair of rose shaded glasses. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

There are more wasteful posts on this thread ABOUT Jacob than there are posts FROM Jacob. Jacob....YOU DA MAN! Anyone who can generate so much discussion among discgolfers deserves some kudos!
Oh, and I for one agree that there is nothing wrong with Jacob's involvement on these boards. I am sure that he is not surprised by any of the discussions regarding certain rule violations or at serious risk from rouge disc golf predators (two of my favorite discs). Finally, if his posts bothered me so significantly, I would simply skip reading any of his messages. However, I enjoy reading his innocent questions and comments and occasionally find the responses quite enlightening. And my life is no so important that the 2-3 minutes a day that I spend reading Jacob's posts will reduce the pleasure of my existance.

Jacob, as I've informed you in the past, drop some of the personal info on your profile. It's not necessary, and is info that can be used against you unknowingly. In this day and age we should protect our personal information from an early age.

Matt
On that note, one thing parents might want to know and consider is a new feature of the message board where a user can be designated as an 'underage member.' It's an option built into the UBB.threads 6.5.5 message board software and the age can be defined by whatever organization is using the UBB.threads software.
Underage members cannot send or receive Private Messages. One other thing I saw was that when 'underage member' is selected, the information in the profile (Homepage, Occupation, Hobbies, Location, Bio, etc.) is not displayed.
By not displaying this information and by not allowing private messaging, I think this is a mechanism to protect young message board users against internet predators.

I agree, and I have to say that I agree with Discette. I've seen enough here and on the Web per sey to feel that there should be limitations to minor privledges placed here. I like Mr. Loper having access to equipment and technique threads, but most assuredly not to other areas.
BTW - I'm betting that the gung-ho Go Mr. Loper posters a) don't have children, or b) are very uninformed about Web predation.

Wow, you missed on both points. In my case I have two children, both Internet users with proper oversight. Secondly, I work with youth in a field where we have to deal with potential predatory behavior from both adults and other youth. So, I have personal and professional experience in this area.
However, I don't really think the primary concern with Mr. Loper's posting is the risk of attracting predators. Most of the criticism seems to be that his postings are repeatative, juvenile or lacking substance. Well, those complaints seem to fit a tremendous number of postings I see on these boards. Hell, some of my own postings deserve the same criticism.
I just happen to believe that a member who has paid his PDGA dues and follows the message board rules should be allows to post here. You, of course, are equally welcome to criticize his postings...Instead of helping him understand how to make more relevant postings.
Hey, just another opinion. Take it or leave it, but don't make assumptions about my level of understanding regarding Internet predatory behavior or experience as a parent.

It's definitely no longer a two horse race.
Avery was in the top 4 at all of last year's majors, including the win at the Players Cup. Dave is capable of winning any week. Doss, Rico, Orum, Schwebby, Leviska, Brinster, Kallstrom, McCray, McCabe, Barsby, Gurthie and others are all potential future major championship winners.
No one will ever touch Kenny's record and I believe he's still got 5-10 more years of winning big tournaments in the open division. I bet he'd love to take home a nice five-figure paycheck in his home state this year.

I believe the future major championship winners over the next two years will come from Climo, Schultz, Jenkins, Feldberg, Doss, Orum, Schweberger and McCray.

Mr. "Dad" Loper here.................simply to say "thank you" fellow disc golfer's for having the patience, and I hope some enjoyment with my son Jacob in his posts !
I have to admit, I too have much fun reading Jacobs posts....and no doubt shake my head! Ha.
I also admit I have wonderful laughs at the responses he seems to generate! LOL. (Especially the one word story.....posts!)
This seems to bring much joy to all involved.
This PDGA discussion board has been a "great" influence to my son Jacob. What he has learned from all of you.....my brother and sister's of Disc Golf..........has really fired Jacob up! He is far more educated than I personally could have done in the years to come. He has gleaned from you "valuable" disc golf insights in such a short time of 1 year.....than I have had in the 5 years I have been playing!
This board is a resource for all our family..............and I THANK YOU ALL!
He is a dear son, a clever disc golf player, knowledgeable of disc types and characteristics, and plays well under pressure on the course, and in practice. I know this doesn't happen without such resources as this board and YOU the players helping educate Jacob on EVEN the simple or mundane questions he has asked.
I am grateful to you and PDGA for this outlet, and inlet into this disc golf family!
I envy Jacob, for being able to chat with Schweb, VJenkins, and other Pro's.........at 12 and coming away with a sense that Disc Golf is bigger than us all! That the community of Disc Golfer's really care for the new generation of young kids enthusiastic about EVERY aspect of the game.
I certainly can't keep up with his hunger for disc golf..........all ALONE! LOL. (Besides not being the know it all dad)
Jacob is also maturing much from your advice in these forums, and we should see some improvements in "spelling" (arrrrggghhh) and relevance.
I humbly Thank each and every one of you for adding to our familys disc golf experience!

Wow, you missed on both points. WOW! I can't believe I missed this reply. I didn't miss either of your points, I simply realized that you didn't take the time to look through all of Mr. Loper's posts. A number of them are about Mr. Loper and are about Mr. Loper looking for approval and recognition in this forum. Since you have some experience with predation on the web tell me, what do predators look for? Do they ever look for kids how are looking for approval?
In my case I have two children, both Internet users with proper oversight. Before I replied to you I took the time to read your bio. I decided to post the way I did knowing that. I did that because I disagree with your postion. Take a look at my first post on this thread. Initially I supported your postion. The posts I had read by Jacob at that point were no more purile or wasteful than a lot of other stuff that goes here. Then I loaded up all the threads he's posted on and read some of them and concluded that Jacob is looking for attention. Now, when it's an adult on here looking for attention, and we have a number who do that, I don't much care. But when it's an 11 year old kid I do, not because I feel some obligation to Jacob (that's not my place), but because I feel an obligation to the PDGA. Secondly, I work with youth in a field where we have to deal with potential predatory behavior from both adults and other youth. So, I have personal and professional experience in this area.
However, I don't really think the primary concern with Mr. Loper's posting is the risk of attracting predators. Hey, just another opinion. Take it or leave it, but don't make assumptions about my level of understanding regarding Internet predatory behavior or experience as a parent.
So, in conclusion, I agree with your point, many of Jason's points are no more wasteful than say Morgan's. That is hardly a compliment, but any member has a right to post whatever garbage they want to. However, your notion that this isn't about predation is misplaced, whether you have experience or not. You can prove that to yourself by asking, what do predators look for?
BTW - predation aside, I understand that our culture is much looser than it was, but I find the notion that it is appropriate for an 11 year old to have access to Ask Hawk, and some of the other sexual inuendo that goes on here... strange

Wow !
This is rather concerning!!!! My son, 12 is looking for attention online from fellow disc golfer's, who may or may not be child predators!!
Definition of FEAR:
F - false
E - evidence
A - appearing
R - real
I would like to assure you all is well.
I get the feeling though no matter how we conduct ourselves in my family would not satisfy your sinister, or fear mongering mentality. Rest assured, and remove any doubt in your mind, that here in the Loper household all due diligence towards the care of my children are a constant high priority.
Further explanations how oversight is conducted would do nothing to "un-focus" your attention on a 12 year old, seeking attention in the PDGA monitored site, about disc golf topics!
Most importantly, rather than explain these things to you, I ask you to stop insinuating my son is "prime" for a predator!! I care little how you FEEL or blow your own horn of knowing how such "tactics" are used by predators!
You know nothing about my son, me, or our family. Yet, you don't refrain from offering YOUR baseless accusations about us. If you continue this fear mongering conversation, than you are showing yourself of being more a threat to my family's well being in this site.
This site is entertaining, thoughtful, informative, and raw in some areas. This conversation is way out of line, and if you were so concerned you would have PRIVATELY sent me an email to voice it. But you took the public route, only showing YOU are looking for some type of attention like all "shock" jocks.
You made your point, respectfully, now drop it.

I can't believe it has come to this!!! Don is the GREATEST man I will ever know, and if anyone is lucky enough to sit and have a chat with him, all would agree. The Loper boys are smart enough to take care of themselves believe it or NOT!!!
Please understand that Jacob is 12 yrs. old, imagine you at 12, with a disc golf message board, and a LOVE for Disc Golf!!! And if your in Wisconsin for either of the Worlds, Don Loper will be there, so take a minute to talk to him and you'll understand we are LUCKY to have Don and his sons as fellow Disc Golfers!!

I whole heartedly agree with Zac! ALL of the Lopers are CHAMPS in my book. I am fairly new to this sport but have had the pleasure of spending many hours on and off the course with all three Lopers and consider them all friends. I do especially enjoy Jacobs excitement for the game and if my 26 years in the Boy Scouts of America are any gage of his personality and his safety, I know he will do well in life.
