Mar 13 2007, 10:40 PM
Hopefully we can get all the details worked out for a match play event on the 15th of April. The day after the Woodmen Spring Fling.
Another option is doubles with 3 different formats.
First 6 holes - Best Shot
Next 6 holes - Worst shot
Last 6 holes - Play your partners disc
Were working on the Match Play layout to see what would work best.

Dont forget about the Duke Fest in Albuquerque NM. this weekend.
Always a great time. Looks like a big crowd will be heading that way from Amarillo.
See some of you there
johnrock
Mar 16 2007, 09:53 AM
Duke Fest is almost full!!! Call ahead if you want to play!! I talked to John Hahn last night around 8:30 and they were at 80 players, with a cap at 90. Accuweather says it will be close to 80 in the desert this weekend with very light winds. Could it be? Will we get to play the Baca without gale force winds? And sunshine instead of rain & snow?
johnrock
Mar 19 2007, 11:54 AM
Beautiful weekend in the Duke City! Most everyone was sunburned. Baby Rock got it twice, at the course in the morning, and then again at the Zoo in the afternoon with his mom and my mom. But with a little aloe vera, all is well.
I saw a bunch of registration forms being handed out Saturday, so there will be more pre-regs coming in soon.
GET SIGNED UP EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't wait till the last minute or you may be watching from the gallery.

We're trying to prevent another round of wild fires like we had last year!
This weekend we had to skip #15 on Saturday due to the standing water around the basket. By Sunday it had evaporated enough to play to the pin, but no aces! The grass is thick and green (some nasty weeds mixed in as well)and playing tough for rollers. The trees are leafing (is that a word?) out and it's getting hard to determine which ones got damaged by the ice storm this past winter. The creek is full and raging.
Is the Disc Creek Course tough enough? Let's see how it plays after adding some extra OB paint on a few holes ! That's right, look for some tighter fairways, more demanding tee shots, and some new OB ponds.

Hole 11 ULTRA LONG BOUNTY!!! A Two from the BLUE would be awesome! It can be accomplished but it will take a GREAT drive and an accurate second shot. Hopefully we can make that pin location the permanant long spot and remove the current short position. That hole needs to be a PAR 4 to help balance the Front and Back Nine's.
MattSmart
Apr 03 2007, 02:23 AM
I agree! Hole 11 would be a true par 4 then. I guess we will find out at the Shootout! The New Plastic is getting longer and longer. The Disc Creek Disc Golf Course will follow suit! Bring your long arm, your accurate approach shot and your precision putting! Why? Because the low round of the course will recieve a nice gift package!
Also there will be a side bet with any Pro. If you want in its $10 bucks. The low round for the the tournament will take all! If 30 Pros get in, thats $300 dollars! You dont have to win the tournament to take home a good payout!!!! Let me know if you want in.
I will be updating the website with all the new entries tomorrow so if you want on the list hurrrrryyyy! :D

Good shootin' during the fundraiser Matt. I was rolling along on the Front nine, but couldn't sustain for the rest of the way. But, still good times. I dont remember ever seeing as many Ace runs in one round as I did yesterday.
Discarzy staff had a good meeting Fri night. The goal was to get input and discuss several issues so as to make the Shootout as fun as possible. The event also should run on time and smoothly. I will have those registered up on the PDGA Tour page soon. Matt mentioned another 20 or so that have/will have registrations in soon. Players equipment info:
All Pro players (money prizes) play from natural grass tees (except HOLE #15 - 210 feet - concrete tee pad) All other players tee from 18 concrete tee pads and 3 natural grass tees.
There are lots of shade trees, but very few places to get out of the rain, so an umbrella may be helpful.
Limited water is available on the course, so bring hydration equipment.
There are several benches scattered around the course, portable seats are very helpful.
Water crossings: There are no holes where you have to cross the creek, but several where you play beside the creek, so extra discs (or a floater) may be advisable as discs that go into the creek are not always easily retrievable if the water level is up or murky.

Big rain in the Panhandle last night, but we're still here! We received more than 2 inches in a short time, causing a lot of flash flooding. Does anybody remember the downpour we got last year the night before the Shootout? It made the water level in the lake rise up past the OB line in some spots. Pretty funny, seeing the OB line underwater and knowing that you could land in the water and still be OK. :D

What a time! I guess I need to plan a trip to City Hall and see if we can arrange for a larger parking area for next year. All in all, I think the course setup worked liked I hoped it would. I saw a few players worry about the temp. ponds, and I saw the Flower Beds stop a roller headed for the pin. Simple, effective. The Island Hole was fun. Many players missed, several barely made it in, but the excitement generated from that hole was cool. Our last group all made it in, but not all made the Birdie putt.

Man, what an event! I think things went pretty smoothly...considering none of us had run an event with that many people. Lots of new faces, some of the regulars were back.....and, everybody seemed happy with things from my perspective.
Mark your clanders for next year...its bound to be even better! I think Matt said we could have had over 150 players if we hadn't had the limited space.
One of the things EVERYONE can do to help out next year is to communicate with the Amarillo Parks Dept. Write them a letter, send an e-mail....tell them how great the facilities are and how much fun you had. Tell them that 4 or 5 of your disc golf buddies could have played, but there wasnt enough space. Spread the positive word about disc golf in Amarillo. If EVERYONE only took 5 minutes to communicate the good times they had, it would go a LLLOOOOOONNNGGG way towards improving the facilities even more (2nd course....concrete tee pads for the blues..., etc.)
Remember next year that there will be NO REGISTRATION ON SATURDAY!! Pre-registration only! Plan early...sign up early...pay early.
I had a great time with everyone in my groups over the weekend. My play declined a bit every round, but overall I was ok with my performance. Maybe one day I can get consistant enough to get in that final group....

This event shows the signs of good things to come for Amarillo DG and West Texas DG. Of the 106 that played, I would estimate one third were new to Amarillo events.
The layout for the Blue tees was awesome!! I never understood how much of a difference the Blues are from the Whites until I played an entire weekend with them. The shortest course configuration for the Blues was longer than the longest course configuration for the Whites!! You had to average about 970 rated golf to shoot under par.
There was only 1 incident that was negative, and other than a few scoring mix ups, it flowed pretty smoothly.
This event really made me feel good about the direction West Tx. Disc Golf is going. My hope is for continued positive steps and good relationships with other disc golf communities.
Mark your calanders next year. DisCrazy Shootout #4 will be even better. Im hearing possibly 2 courses, or 2 pools......who knows :o

May 09 2007, 12:07 PM
There will probably be some tweaks to the course for next year. Namely some MANDOS for righties! ;) In our effort to make the course flow better, we used a few MANDOS. Unfortunately, it seems they all were "Pass on the Left" MANDOS. Some players felt the balance was off, and rightly so I suppose. However, the top scores for OPEN had two righties on top and then a lefty/righty tie. So maybe it was just personal perception.
