I've settled recently on soft Challengers for putting, but at the beginning of this intended-to-be-very-competitive year for me, I am willing to give another putter a try. I'd like to sit out at 60-feet and throw a shot that just goes nice and slow and straight.
I've seen some of the players who've been around a long time using older putters that fly very straight and slow.
What do y'all think is the straightest-flying putter?

A seasoned APX SWIRL knows nothing but straightness at slow speeds. :D

My straightest regular putters are both Aviar P&A [Beat Star & DX].
If you're interested in a slow, straight, old school putt approach, you really should try the Snapdisc Whittler.
Although I'm a big Aviar lover, I would like to try the Gateway Warlock, and the 1080 Short Range.
Some of the other discs listed above are pretty good. The 86 Softy is used by several of my friends, and if you like the shape, they seem to fly pretty straight.
APX Swirl ... straight? I would consider it overstable for a putter, until it's really, really beat. ;)

I have some Warlocks. They are very nice and stable when new, and do have some fade when reaching the end of their flight. I see some great potential for this disc to be a nice straight flyer as it breaks in; and then to become a nice understable disc once it gets very beat.
Plus the S plastic on these just rawks! :D ;)

This could go round-and-round about what [modern] putter is straightest. I think most pros throw regular putters. From 60 feet, with no obsticles, they will hyzer the putt in rather than try to throw it straight. There are a lot of putters that fit the bill "straight" inside or around 30', however ...
Back to the original post ...
You want SLOW and STRAIGHT ... Outside 60 feet (and oldschool)?
Try the Snapdisc WHITLER! It absolutely rocks for this kind of shot.

15 years of experimentation, one conclusion:
Aviar P&A holds the straightest, truest line.

Forgot about the Aero ... Good suggestion! Aero is great for shots outside 60, slow, and still pretty good for even longer distances. I got my last ace with an Aero! ;)

Aeros are surprisingly unaffected by the wind, as compared to a lot of X type discs. As long as it's not a power shot into a STIFF headwind, a nice Aero can stay straight and preserve that touch into a headwind better than most putters. I think it's that triangular rim design. cuts the wind

Hard MAGNET. No question. This disc has no tendency to go hyzer or anny, just stays on the line you throw it. The only reason I can'y throw them is because they glide too far the way I throw and my comeback (if I miss) is longer than the 1st put! Remember Nate Till's putting?...

I'm also voting for APX, either the Swirl or Reef versions.
I've been throwing the APX-X as my #1 putter for several years now, very very straight with just a tad of fade at the end of flight. But I think the Swirl and APX versions have virtually no fade.
Magnets and Aviars definitely have more fade for me. A beat-up Magnet can do the trick though...
Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Putt'r yet.

White Shuttle Puppy, Ben-Wal/1st run DGA Kittyhawks, beat Super-Puppies, beat Aviar P&A's in that order.
The Whittler flies extremely straight and could be used as a putter, but I prefer it as a short floater approach disc.

picked up a few from dave last weekend but haven't had a chance to do more than putt them in the basement. the plastic feels GREAT, firm yet tacky like the putt and approaches from the late 90's. got one of the harder plastic version as well but haven't had a chance to toss it.
almost any putter will go staight if it's "seasoned" enough..

I've got a 168 light purple star aviar that I got 2 years ago right when star plastic came out. It is so beat in now and super straight flying. Straighest disc I've ever thrown. If you buy a star aviar and use for a couple years you will absolutely love it. Perfect disc....

I'll second that! Doesn't even need to be light weight...my 175gr that I've been throwing for about a year does the same thing. Release it flat and it'll hold that line until it hits the ground....what a lovely disc :D

The same thing happens with beat up Pro-D Challengers... After a couple months of good use they will become perfect straight throwers... I used them for a lot of shots off the tee from 250 and in.

The FLX is pretty close to that when new. I also used the D Challengers for that but got tired of replacing them quite often. So I put the old Q (CE Aviar) Omega back in and got my second tournament ace ever, both with that disc!

Yeah the FLX challenger is close but it can be a little flippy sometimes and its not as consistent. I used to have a Q Mega and it was nice as well.

The key to all flippy and/or straight putters is to understand their benefits and limitations. Some discs should never be thrown hard or into a wind. They will just flip and never come back.
I played catch with Rattlers for years but was afraid to put them in the bag because they could not handle being thrown hard and couldn't handle big wind. Then, being slow to catch on, it occured to me to just use Rattlers understanding their limits. Viola!
So now I carry two Rattlers: a fresh one and a really beat up one. The really beat up one is the most precious disc in the bag.
I still use the Rattlers to warm up for rounds by playing catch. When I play catch with someone new it is only a matter of time until they figure out the semi-magical float of a Rattler thrown with the right touch. Then, comes the inevitable question, "Hey this flies great, what is it?"
Any good putter can simulate a Rattler's flight, after a few years of non-stop use. Out of the box the Rattler is the schizzle.

There is no question that lid-like putters are straighter but I just switched to a hyzer putt and I no longer want them straight. My super-straight 165G no bead (worn off) JK Aviar was costing me strokes. A firm putt would anny a little and kick out nearly every time.

Within the last 6 months I've switched from the more over stable Pro Challenger to the straighter Reef. I've seen much more success with my putting and way shorter comebacks because of the addition of more loft and less spin in my putt. When I started changing my putt to this style with the Challenger the low speed fade at the end would force me to modify my line to compensate. With the Reef, it stays straight throughout the flight. I'm much more accurate from 30-40 now and can still jump putt from 60-80 with no problem. I've heard that the swirly APX's are a better plastic, but those are too hard to get now a days.
