I know Biscoe split divisions randomly, but, wow! The beef division is well named, because that's where all the beef is. No offense to those in the aptly-named Dairy division.
Beef:
Seneca - 2004 VTI champs, 2005 and 2006 Beef champs and VTI
runners-up
RADL- 2005 VTI champs, 2005 Dairy champs
Bayville
Blue Ridge- 2004 VTI runners-up
Baltimore
Spotsy
Dairy:
UniTTy- 2006 VTI and Dairy champs
PA- divisional runners up 2005 and 2006
NOVA
Home
Calvert
West Virginny
There's five dominant teams in the Beef division. Seneca is the best team in the history of the VTI. RADL consistently brings the most talented team. Bayville is always the biggest underachiever and are full of talent--plus they annexed team NN. Baltimore usually has players like Mela, Jernigan, and CLee if I'm not mistaken. Our team is bringing our best lineup ever and we're probably fifth best in our division. And team spotsy has the exemption from the play-out match (must be nice).
In the Dairy there's trim, who is the biggest overachiever in the history of the VTI. Team PA who's never made the finals. Team NoVA without Ronnie??? and Strokes and has three people I've never heard of. I don't know much about the "mystery" Home team, but I do know that their past VTI match record is very poor. Calvert was in last year's play-out match. I don't know much about Team WV.
Anyhoo, looks like Team Blue Ridge will be a donator this year. My last year as captain will need a miracle to stay out of the play-out game. If we were in the Dairy we'd likely make the playoffs.
Seneca vs. RADL in the finals. Book it.

In that division, you will be underachieving if you don't make the playoffs. Even if you can't play due to getting wrastled down the night before.

No problem bro...Just remember what you said..."I will return the favor at the 2007 vTTi when my squad is waiting on the sidelines to see who won, and hoping to be able to return in 2008." TThat was the exact quote...I have it beta-recorded. You even called it the vTTi...you are such a trooper.

i was watching the pga match play event this weekend and was wondering if some of the same rules applied to VTI.
for instance, after a hole was over the players would often go back and repeat the shot they had just missed for practice. it's not as though you are keeping a stroke total and the extra shot certainly wouldn't be added to the next hole. also, players were often tapping the ball up in the air with their club (which i've never seen them do during a normal event).
so in other words, if i miss a putt to lose the hole or the hole is conceded, can i take the putt over for practice or putt anyway?
ck34
Feb 25 2007, 10:55 PM
No. Practice shots have always been allowed after you complete the hole in ball golf as long as it doesn't slow up the group behind yours.
kadiddlhopper
Feb 25 2007, 10:57 PM
and I think they are restricted to putts on the green, no chips or sand play accepted.

Actually, uniTTy saved a tiny puppy(and named him uniTTy)from an early highway death last year on our way back to NC...so yes, it would be like you killed our dog...our dog uniTTy. You wouldn't really want to do that would you DJ? You don't want to be a dog-killer. You're a nice guy...I know you are. At least I thought you were...now I'm reconsidering it...You know, I do remember you kickin' that poor little dog at vTTi last year during our round...and then laughing about it for more than a few holes...
So keep your canine-hatin' grubby liTTle hands off our trophy...

as of today the cattle are in attendance, hopefully i will catch them on the other side of the gate at some point this week and lock them out- that is to one degree or another up to them, the creek makes it very difficult to drive cattle down there.
anyone from spotsy/nova available for some labor on thursday please pm me or call me at 540-661-6685. i need some help installing upgraded bridges. also, i am currently in need of a few baskets, contact me if you can bring any.

He had sugery in Dec or Jan and will be ready next year for a righty round. I think it was 2 or three weeks after the surgery he was playing lefty.

Disc Golf Monthly will be extending it's coverage to Virginia Golf with coverage of the VTI.
This will be the first time that Disc Golf Monthly will cover a tournament in Virginia and with Virginia golfers being able to watch Disc Golf Monthly on demand via Comcast Digital cable it will not be the last.
Please note, for those former Adelphia subscribers who are in Virginia you will see Disc Golf Monthly upon the completion of an engineering upgrade. This upgrade will take place before the year ends, this is the best timetable I can provide.
Select content footage at the VTI will make it into the Disc Golf Monthly Weekly Update which can be seen at
www.discgolfmonthly.com (http://www.discgolfmonthly.com)
while you're there please sign the guest book , comments and opinions are welcome.

in all seriousness, i drove down from the inlaws home near newark,nj and the directions are good......pay attention to the part in red as if not you will be calling john from somewhere down the road and with spotty cell service in the area, you might not get through and not many people in the area know where hawk hollow is (being the legend course that it is, john should have maps available at all area gas stations and conveinence stores :D)
and drive time is EXTREMELY dependant on when you get near the dc area....try to pass through there btween 11am-1pm(not kidding)as i spent 4 hours going about 25 miles cuz i didn't have any ideas what roads i could take to get around and pick up 95 again
hope this helps

Well for all those out there who want to know what the weather's gonna be like for this weekend. I've looked at the NWS forecast and radar's as well as some other model data and have come to the conclusion that I think we're gonna be dodging a bullet considering it's raining alot today and supposed to rain again on monday and tuesday. I do however, as of now because of what I've seen, think that we should be ok on sat and sun. Most of the rain/snow should be passed by early morning on saturday leaving only a slight chance (20%) of rain/snow showers during the day on saturday. Sunday looks nice, with high's around 50 and next to no chance of rain. The one thing that should be noticed though is that it looks like there could be some significant wind to make the weekend all the more fun and a little bit colder. Well there ya go and eventhough I've almost got a degree in meteorology, it's still an inexact science so don't quote me on this but this should give you all a good idea of what to expect for VTI weather :p

looking at the models i have seen and not haveing a weather and climate class for many years i think the high preassure system behind this front will provide dry air masses and much colder temps for the weekend i do not see any precepitaton at all for the weekend but like you said very windy conditions will be on tap for saturday. lets hope the creeks did not overflow and we actually get to play HH. my fingers are crossed.

creek is completely over the banks. for those of you at last fall's hawk hollow open it is a good 4-5 FEET higher than it was then. vti 2007 will be contested at the grange. i know this is less than ideal in many people's eyes but believe me there is nothing that can be done about it- i have never seen the water close to that high. amazing that 2 of our 3 biggest rainstorms in the last year have fallen immediately prior to hawk hollow events. this one makes the one in the fall look insignificant.
once again, VTI 2007 WILL BE PLAYED AT THE GRANGE. PASS THE WORD!!!
tee time will be 10:30 to allow stragglers to make it over from HH.

Good Times...it's fun when the competition is so close! Great job, John, managing all the adversities and being flexible. Only in Mike Trapasso's world can you accommodate over 100 guests for the weekend on less than a days notice - THANKS!
Congrats RADL!

Mother Nature threw Biscoe a big old Bert Blyleven curveball this weekend, but he still hit it out of the park for a grand slam. Huge thanks to John for another great VTI experience. Thanks to Mike for hosting. Congratulations to RADL. Thanks to my playing partners Vince, Rob, Pat, Mike & Hunter for fine sportsmanship.
My disappointment with not playing Hawk Hollow was somewhat tempered by getting to see the Grange for the first time. The Darkside is a world class wooded course. Tiki is just incredible fun.
Thanks again John!

I want to thank John and Mike for hosting us this weekend.
I want to thank my Team for pulling it out at the end. It was a closer finish than I would have liked.
We voted our 2 Advanced players, Jeremy Bond and Dave George, as our MVPs. They were the ones that pulled us through at the very end.
We voted (all of us except Mike) that Mandi should be our Team Spirit award winner.
I had more than half the team in my truck (myself, Mcree, Schmalfeld, Bond and George). We had a lot of fun going up and coming home.
I also want to thank Steve Miller, his uncle and his Mom for putting up with us for the weekend.
Thanks for all of the accolades folks!!!

Is it too early to discuss "team event requirements" for next year? Will it be the same as this year as far as team members grandfathered in and boundary living requirements?
johnbiscoe
Mar 19 2007, 03:22 PM
yes, it's too early.
presuming i keep roughly the same format (12 teams) the only likely major change will be that masters will have to be masters age.
i am considering some alternatives however which i am not prepared to elaborate on at this time.

We may need to change the requirements...
Captain
Mar 20 2007, 09:12 AM
Change them all you want.
The RADL Team has always followed the requirements as well as the spirit of the rules.
We may not win it everytime but we will likely always be a contender.

Thats true Kirk! I was just joking... I've no problem with any of the rules, but there is a difference between a 40 year old's back and a 30 year old's back (unless you are Larry).

I absolutely agree with you.
Last year at HH I was competing against players in their early 20's that were throwing about 100 feet further than I could ever reach. One of them was parking holes that I could never dream of reaching.
I think John has already addressed this issue for '08.

It has been a long time since I have seen Jim throw pure distance. But I have played with Craig plenty of times and his distance is not that much better than mine.
In the NC States every year I average between 460' and 480'. The player that I competed against could do that with an approach disc. The upside was that it was impressive to see someone throw way past my furthest drive. The down side was that he was 20 years younger than I am.
I guess my take on the VTI is that as popular as it has become it shouldn't be that much of a problem fielding a team that has the right players in the right positions.
johnbiscoe
Mar 20 2007, 11:22 AM
i am in agreement with you on that. my initial setup was to make it easy to field a team- thus we even had a ratings break where males could play with the women. now that there is such demand for the event it makes sense to bring it in line with pdga requirements imo. i just don't feel the argument that the young guys throw farther holds much water.
...and , not to be argumentative but i've played with both of you a bunch and craig throws considerably further than you do. :p
