I drove up yesterday to check it out,Lions Park is my favorite out of the 2 it has variety of wooded and open holes but most of the holes are open and long-kind of reminded me of the Tyler course with more long holes; as far as that other course-you can see every single basket from the road-wind comes into play on every single hole. The Lions course has a creek and a pond that comes into play and the other course has a creek and a lot of wind. Its going to be a hard decision for me because Twin Parks Huk Fest is on the same day.

Drove from Waco to Temple today to play the revised Lion's Park - I like it! There are long, short, water, and tree holes. If I remember correctly, the sidewalks are OB on all the holes. ...reminds me of L.L. Woods in Lewisville. Oh yes, and the walkers and joggers are extra points. :D
The course is well designed and does not favor a righty or a lefty. Bring your bag of tricks and long arm. You'll need it on this course. Great job TDGA!

Tha Lions course is very challenging.
The course does offer 8 short boxes on the longer and more difficult holes.
The course is very hilly and a couple of the pins are perched on the side of a hill.
Water comes into play on 4 holes and 16 of the 18 holes have OB areas.
From the long boxes we have 4 long holes...871, 797, 800, and 692 Ft. Most of the rest of the holes are anywhere from 185 to 340 Ft. with the exception of one wooded 505 footer!
It's a lot of fun :D
See yall there,

So far it's 2 rounds at Lions unless it reaches the capacity to have to use both courses.
I am hoping everyone play the long boxes except Juniors, women, Grnd. Masters, and Rec men but it's Rick's tournament so it's up to him.
By the way the host hotel so far is the Super 8 at 5505
S. General Bruce Dr. (Midway Dr. and I-35.) The number is 254-778-0962. Mention Disc Golf Tourn. at Lions.
The hotel is about 2 miles from the course.
There is also a new La Quinta in Belton on I-35 and Loop 121 thats only about 15 miniutes from the course.
The RANCH Steakhouse and saloon will be serving lunch at the course. I think it's burgers, chips and drink but I am pushing for some chicken also. Probably 5 bucks a plate.
They have good food and have a huge saloon with live bands on weekends, mostly country music. They are located about 10 minutes from the course on the backroads.
Hey Rick....

Yesterday they said 50% chance Saturday.
Now they say it's coming through very fast late Friday night and maybe early Saturday morning. Isolated T-Storms 20%.
He said most of the severe weather will be north of us and that by mid morning any rain chances will be gone.
High 76, winds 15-30, (Thats our normal wind lately!).

I am still working on trying to finalize everything for the final -- i want it to be on memorial day weekend -- figures that gives everyone an extra day to recover - i have spoken with the parks dept at waco; however since it is memorial day weekend the guy in charge of events needs to get approval -- waco doesnt have the texas 10 coming thru this year & its a central location & would allow everyone who has qualified in the series a chance to play -- if this isnt possible then i will go to RR instead if possible. i will know more sometime this week about Waco. Sorry to keep you guys hanging out there -- but i am trying to make sure everything is CONCRETE before i post -- this ging back and forth stuff has got to be giving you guys the wrong impression -- I am learning there is a bit more to being a TD then showing up with some plastic ;P

Feb 25 2007, 02:35 AM
Scores are up -- for some reason its not giving me the option to tell it who won the tiebreaker -- so i guess its gonna show both Coda & Mike as being in 1st place until Monday -- WOW -- 140 players for a one day c-tier -- CRAZY!!! - THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT CAME OUT -- today was amazing -- Much Thanks to Woody for putting water out on both courses, dropping flags, & working the 5th street side of things, Joey Roper -- YOUR THE MAN -- Joey just had soo much together -- maps of the course, all the OB's, just everything, thanks for having me up TDGA & I WILL BE BACK!! Man was that wind completely insane or what -- someone said the news mentioned gusts of 50 MPH & i dont doubt it -- i heard someones drivers was laying at rest flat on the grass & while they were approaching it the wind picked it up & moved it 30+ feet back -- i watched a putter roll, lay down, & get back up & roll some more... again thanks to everyone that made today what it was ---
goodnight all

DNF? that explains it but why even a score?
Another exqmple of class by Ric Johnson. :o
He should receive par +4 on each hole he did not finish.

The Lions course rocked but those round ratings are way off. 2 strokes off the hot round is 988?

Feb 25 2007, 11:59 AM
Thanks to Rick and the Temple crew for running a tourney at Temple. Two very nice courses.
Chris, I think the ratings are wrong since the same scores in open and intermediate are rated the same, yet they were at separate courses, and possibly playing separate tees.

Feb 25 2007, 12:20 PM
I hope so.
Had a blast playing this tournament. Would have shot 10 strokes better if I was playing with gate way plastic in that crazy wind.

c fles you were 3 strokes off the hot round Jimmie Z should be scored as 57 not 59 he actual shot 55 but some Moron on his card thought par was 58 and scored him as 59. but it is Jimmie's fault in the end for not checking it. I would have to say that is the highest stroke swing from 1 round to the next that I have ever seen. 16 stoke improvement and supposedly on the harder course  I think 5th street is harder once you know where and how to play all the funky and hidden OB's over at lions but again awesome job Temple I love both courses and will be back.. :p

WHOA-MAN.... That was some wind....... Cool courses. Good times.
931 rated player wins intermediate.. HAHA...
I was curious about that. I didn't play in this tourney, but there were two intermediate players with ratings of 915 or over (931 and 915).
The rankings with PDGA says that players in intermediate have a ranking of <915. Is this an optional rule? Seems to be pretty clear that neither of those players I mentioned above should be able to play Intermediate. Looking back over tournament data, it seems the <915 ratings is just up to the player in question.
Anyone have insight into this? I would think this rule was there to keep players from bagging in lower rounds, but no one seems to enforce it at tournaments.

already spoke with dave gentry about this morning and will be turning it in on the official report later today -- YES, some of it is my responsibility but as a PDGA player playing in sanctioned events -- it is primarily YOUR responsibility to sing up in the right division -- also a few things are going to change for the rest of the series -- sign up on the day of the event will cost you an extra $10 bucks -- its not fair for the players that do pre register to have to wait around an extra hour or so for those that dont to get all signed in -- spoke with the PDGA about this today & they told me they highly encourage IT!!!! -- soooo i do apologize to anyone in the intermediate field & i will make good the difference in payout based on the original payout scheme which should be
$85 1st
$80 2nd
$75 3rd
$70 4th
$65 5th
$65 6th
$60 7th
$55 8th
$55 9th
$50 10th
$45 11th
$45 12th
$40 13th
$35 14th
$30 15th
$25 16th
so all ties add up payout for evreyone that has the same score & divide it by the same number of people & that is your payout -- please contact me if you need an adjustment based on this event -- also after speaking with the pdga -- if i currently owe you payout from another event please contact with the event you are still owed -- from this point forward i will handing out vouchers -- if you leave before an event & you dont pick up your voucher or make arrangements -- YOU WILL not be able to get your payout -- sorry folks but there is so much paperwork on the backend of these tournaments that you dont see -- that to be responsible for YOUR payout is becoming a major hassle -- I really want to make each event better then the last one -- & these are things i feel (from talking to boht the PDGA & the players) that will make each event run smoother -- thanks to everyone again that made saturday what it was --

I was on that card and we all counted all the scores after the round. Everyone elses scores got counted from a par of 54. Not sure how we all missed and counted Jimmy on a Par of 58. I am sorry for the miss count Jimmy.

The Temple Disc Golf Association would like to thank all of you for coming and we are glad you like our courses. :D
It's usually not that windy. Normal days this time of year are around 5 to 15 MPH. Later in the summer expect 0 to 10 MPH. :D
Our Lions course does have a lot of OB's but they are clearly stated on each Tee sign. We designed this course to be challenging and difficult. Hope it was not to difficult for yall.
Sorry about Soda Pop the BAGGER. He told us he used to play Open years ago but had some shoulder surgery.
He thought, like all the other INT, that he would be playing long boxes but he should have played ADV.
We dogged him pretty bad and he realizes he should not have played INT. He felt pretty bad about it. :o
Once again hope you all had a good time and we hope to see you back.

not only is the course fun and challenging but has a lot of the little things that good courses lack. Tee signs with TONS of information for starters. Not sure it would be worth the 4 hour round trip for a mini but if I find myself in waco over a weekend you can expect to see me there.

Hey,
There buddy the question of the day is why won't they allow the Lone Star Series to come to cedar hill he was wanting to come in may. I was told this would be to much to organize I don't think that is it at all. I was told three tournaments a year at cedar hill was enough. I personally take it as a compliment that more people are wanting to host their tournaments at the hill. I'm not sure how it works but If I was rick I would call the city of Cedar Hill and see what steps I could take to make it possible. We wonder why there isn't alot of support for cedar hill. Maybe it's because we don't allow people from out of town to run tournaments at one of the best courses in Texas. I think this is crap and a good reason why I and others won't participate in the minis. We need to open the doors to the disc golf community if someone wants to host a tourn then let them if it's too much work then maybe somebody else needs to step up and take charge out there. Lets at least call Rick back and say no instead of ignoring him and avoiding his calls. Cedar Hill is one of the best courses in texas and we should promote it any way we can.
Oh $h!^ i missed the putt oh well!!!!!
