None of the Above..
1st Run Z-buzzz is not the same as a standard production Z-buzzz.
otherwise a midnight buzzz is a decent replacement.

It's still z plastic.
I wasn't about to make choices for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc runs, even though they do differ slightly.

a minor mistake on your part, but here's why. You wouldn' thave to put down 1st, 2nd,3rd,2345th, whatever.. you would have only had to put down 1st run. the 2nd run is from the 1st run mold. making them the same(and that's what i've heard about it's look and flight characteristics)
There are basically 2 buzzz discs. The original mold was an actual physical mold used to press wasps that was modified and cut to be super flat and beadless. The production discs are made from a brand new mold and they aren't nearly the same.
The original mold, From what i've read up on over the years, only pressed the 1st run Z-buzzzes and the 2nd1st Runs. The newer Buzzz Mold was used to press all the D, X, and Z wasps.
I'm not sure how the Midnight was made because it possesses the same look and flight of a 1st run, but it was made in the new mold if i remember.
"It's still z plastic. "
although they are said to be made from Z, a 1st run isn't just a regular Z disc. They are 2 differnt discs. They were pressed from different molds and they were even made from different plastic. The 1st run plastic has much different texture and durability than the standard Z plastic. I have a Z buzzz and a 1st run and I can feel and see it. You did put the midnight seperate from the z and that suprises me becuase they are both also said to be from Z plastic too.
I'm not saying anything here to get you mad or to attack you, but merely to inform you and whoever reads this. If anything isn't right about the molds or the history let me know. I haven't read up on my buzzz news in a while so I can't be 100% positive about the history and such, but I'm pretty sure that's the way it went down.
Anyone have any news on how super flexy the buzzzes are and if they are flat top or domey? I just ordered one and can't wait to check it out.

Whichever one is closest. I keep trying to convince myself to learn to throw a Roc, but the Buzzz always seems to find its way into my hand.

My favorite buzzz is throwing my Roc(s).
But seriously ... I like the 1st run Buzzz, then the Elite X. Midnights fly great, but I can never find them easily because they're black, and I can't see black discs. The others ... well, it's just so confusing ... different molds, plastics, flight characteristics ... its just so darned confusing. Guess that's why I throw Rocs, LOL. ;)

A slight thread drift but not much. I love my regular Buzzzes, what is the difference between a regular Buzzz and a first run and is it worth the money.

"""A slight thread drift but not much. I love my regular Buzzzes, what is the difference between a regular Buzzz and a first run and is it worth the money.""""
Robert,
I would say that if you were given a 1st run and a Z buzzz that you would be able to notice the difference in the appearance and shape right away and you would notice the flight characteristics after just a few throws.
1st run buzzz(including 1st run, 2nd1st run and midnight):
-Slightly Overstable to Start
-Very durable and grippy plastic compared to regular Z
-Always Flat Topped (making them faster and slightly more stable)
- Great Plastic for feel and durability
Regular Production Z-Buzzz:
- Domey, which may make it very slow
- less stable than 1st run to many players
- Rarely Flat topped unless custom stamped
Basically the 1st runs are faster, while retaining the glide, and they are pretty point and shoot.
I use my new midnight for big hyzers and I use my 2 beat in 1st runs for all turnover/flat/ hyzerflip shots.
I wouldn't say it's worth it to Buy any of these discs as they are all discontinued and very expensive. Ask to throw someones(any of the 3 listed: 1st run, 2nd1st run, and midnight) or find one used for cheap.
Your best bet is to just find a Flat top custom stamped Z-buzzz or a Flat top D Buzzz.

my favorite buzz was the esp because it was more finesse oriented. i am a wasp fan and need ia finesse to complete the pair. i founf that the element fit the bill better than the esp buzz. it is llike a stable stingray and does not take as much effort.

Right now I have an ESP Buzzz and a 2nd First Run Buzz in my bag.
The ESP is a little slow, very glidey, and very straight. It is a finesse disc that can still be thrown hard with hyzer and flip flat and fly straight. It is the most Roc-like Buzz to watch fly because of the slow glide. It feels and flies like a new X-Buzz, but stays that way a lot longer. My first ESP Buzz was really flat and flippy (blue 176), but the ones I throw now (Orange 177) are only flippy in the wind or if thrown hard without enough hyzer.
My 2nd first run is very nice as well. It is fast and slightly understable at high speeds and slightly overstable at low speeds, but all in all can handle a lot more snap than the ESP. It also flies better for low ceiling shots and skips forward 20-50' depending on the ground conditions. It holds truer on hyzer lines than the ESP which always seems to want to straighten out a hyzer release to some degreee. This disc is fast enough that people often think it is a driver when they see it fly. Its speed is somewhere in the XL-Leopard range.
I really like the combination of these two Buzzes, and they handle just about all my mid needs. I like that I can protect my less replaceable 2nd first run by using my ESPs as my workhorses. The only other mid in my bag is a Breeze for its predictable flip at lower speeds. I am going to pick up a FLX Buzz tonight to play with, but I don't see it ousting my ESP because I really prefer some rigidity.

The first run pro d's with the A3 stamp are sweet. If anybody has any, I would be willing to buy them.
I have a z buzzz that was ran about a year ago. Almost opaque, dark red, super flat. I'll buy any of those too.

All my D Wasps are first runs. I don't like the "rimprinting" found on most Discraft discs. Most of the time, the first run of the mold doesn't have it. I'm not talking proto D Wasps (with the small circle D stamp), those have weird nipples in the middle. Mine are either MaceMan stamped or regular Wasp logo stamped. I've seen some proto's in white, most in yellow and all the first run ones I have seen are yellow. Really flat with a little bump in the middle. They're the older "dusty" type D plastic too. Recently I bought another MaceMan one off eBay for $25. I like them that much. The main way to tell is the rim is smooth with no printing.

Does anyone know for sure why Discraft made a new Buzz mold instead of continuing with the first one? My guess is that it produced too many rejects. I've seen several first runs where the dome was caved in. I've also seen them where it looked like the top and bottom parts of the mold weren't quite lined up straight leaving sharp edges. My first run has large marks on the outer edge presumably from some machine that handled the discs before the plastic was totally dry.

I can get ~ 280' on my Buzzz X's, and really love the two that I have (one more beat than the other).
However, I was worried about what to do when they get really beat, so I recently puchased the Buzzz ESP and the Buzzz Z. These two are definitely "flatter" on top than my original Buzzz Xs, and they are also more stable (The Buzzz Z being the most stable). In fact, they are almost too stable!
I am now trying to hunt down some Buzzz X's like my originals.

After finally getting to throw my new FLX Buzzz I have to say that this disc is AMAZING. They are stable to overstable and they have great glide.... They feel like a gummy 1st run!!!
I will probably replace 2 of my buzzzes in my bag for these when I buy 2 more and beat 1 up.

As a guy who loves the D BUZZZ, IMHO a beat up D BUZZZ does not have anywhere near the float of a beat up ROC or Wasp. There will turn over when beat like anything else but they do not have the carry and float of the Roc, Wasp, Comet...

For a long time I carried a first run and a custom stamp buzzz. Eventually, I threw the first run into a river (never to be seen again).
However, I don't miss it that much because I have found that the custom/tournament stamp buzzzes are pretty similar (flat top, a little over stable, nice glide).

Picked up a 2nd First Run Z Buzz... This disc is sweet. Its like a shorter Teebird. Doesnt turn over, finishes left with a moderate fade. I'm using the ESP for most of my midrange shots now, and the 2nd First Run when I need a little more stability. No more Rocs /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
