I haven't heard anything yet about these and I'm wondering what the rest of you know.
1080 discs; "Radius" has been approved
Daredevil Discs; "Beaver, Swift Fox, Timber Wolf, Wolverine and Woodchuck" are approved

1080 discs was just started recently by Dave at Revolution. 1080 Disc Golf. (http://1080discgolf.com) Supposedly, the Radius was designed by Dave at Gateway, and is kind of a retooled Warlock.

In any case, good to see another company on the scene.

With a little googling, Daredevil Discs appears to be an ultimate disc company from Canada.

Why the name 1080?

I have found references to a deadly poison as well as TV electronics.

Yup, and anyway, as far as organic toxins go Red Squill would have made a much better name. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ;)

If their discs improve my rating to 1080, I'm switching! :)

First, I want to thank everybody for taking a look at 1080 Disc Golf (at www.1080discgolf.com (http://www.1080discgolf.com)) and the new Radius Short Range and Radius Driver. After unpacking boxes and boxes (and boxes) of incredible feeling and sweet flying discs over the last week or so, I think you're going to be amazed once you actually get your hands on them.

The Putting plastic used in the Radius Short Range is really unique. Our goal was to produce a plastic that required minimal blending to maximize consistency between runs. I think we met that goal while creating a plastic that feels much different than anything I've ever felt or thrown over the past thirteen years. Golfers here in Virginia who've seen the early prototypes totally agreed. It is very rubbery in feel, yet shiny in appearance. Even in the cold, it has a great grip and feel.

The Driving plastic in the Radius Driver feels and wears just like some of the most coveted golf plastic ever offered. If you've ever wanted to know what all the fuss was about the CE plastic offered in 2000-2001, try one of the Radius Drivers. They are definitely tough to make (as in lots of rejects and hassle), but the end result is a sweet flying, predictable, yet nearly indestructible disc that is absolutely worth the extra effort.

And really, that's our goal. I don't have any illusions about producing dozens of models in dozens of plastics. The goal with 1080 Disc Golf is to make incredible "craft brewed" golf discs. Swee flying, solid designs made in small quantities using the the best materials available.

As for the name, 1080 is absolutely a take on REVOLUTION. This represents my third major disc golf endeavor (REVOLUTION Disc Golf Bags and Disc Golf Magazine being one and two) so the name seemed like a natural fit.

I want to send a special thanks to the designer of the Radius, David McCormack. Dave went to great lengths to produce some sweet plastic just for 1080 Disc Golf. His hard work and patience has made the Radius and Radius Driver what I believe to be two unique discs and a great start for 1080 Disc Golf that will certainly benefit our sport and its most demanding players.

I certainly hope you will give it a try!

Thanks,

-Dave

It's great to see Gateway(who, as a disc golf company, is becoming larger every day) helping start other small competitors and lines out there. When they're already battling for market share, and they're willing to put other competition out there (even if they do make a small margin on them) is a sign that the company cares as much or more about disc golf as a whole as they do about their own profits. That, and the fact that there's nothing I've been able to find that'll compare to my wizard as far as an overstable putter will likely keep it in my bag forever.

Will the radius driver be more overstable than an E-wizard? I've been looking for something that feels similar to a Wizard in a premium plastic with a little more stability. The star aviar's rim feels a little too deep for me but it flies the way i want.

I think it is beadless(more like the warlock) so it will probably be less overstable.

Ahh, okay I checked their website and that sounds right. Guess I just need to find a less domey wizard.

Dave,

Maybe I'm obtuse, but I still don't understand the meaning of 1080, and how is it connected to Revolution. Could you explain a little more?

Three complete revolutions is 1080 (3x360 degrees) One 360 is 'par' for a circle. :D
