can anyone give me a review of this disc, as well as how they fly in different plastic types.
Were they ever made in D plastic?

I love my Z Comet, nice slow turn over when thrown flat and a slow hyzer turn when thrown on a hyzer angle. This disc has a ton of glide. Are the ESP's more stable?

Are the ESP's more stable?
If stable=straight, then yes. ESP's are less overstable than the z's. More like the old RR D-Comets, as far as throwing lines go. Holds anny's the whole way and doesn't come out. Almost birdied hole 1 at Zboaz from the longs with a ESP comet off the tee. Super-straight flyers that will hold any line you put them on and glide like crazy.

Comets are finess midranges. Stable to understable with more glide than any other mid range I've ever thrown. X plastic tends to have varrying stability (red, blue, black, green and white being evenly stable with yellow and orange being the flippest of the bunch). Z plastic also varries alittle by colors (red Z will turn over out of the box, yellow Z tend to hold a pretty flat line and the blue RR edition are the most stable out of the bunch) but will hyzer out at the end of the flight more than the X plastic. Comets were also originally ran in what is known today as "cyclone plastic" which is pretty comparable to D plastic of today.

Hi all,
Actually, the Pro-D plastic was the old Competition Line. The old Tournament Pro Line, or "Cyclone Plastic" is actually more comparable to the Elite-X Line that is currently available. The Comet was never run in Competition or Pro-D plastic.

Not really a review but ... I think the Comet is one of the funnest discs I have ever thrown. I always have fun when I take a Comet out solo on the course. They are fun fliers. I really dig the speed and control of this disc.

I just picked up one of the ESP Comet LEs last weekend. Feels very nice in the hand. REALLY psyched to get out and fly it over the President's Day holiday! Especially considering 283's mini-review above...

hey,
How would a comet(in general or in any of the plastics) Compare to a 1st Run Buzzz or a Midnight Buzzz.

Any Buzz I have thrown will always stable out at the end. The Comet will hold the line for the entire flight.

Comet is slower, and straighter. It's much more of a finesse disc than the Buzzz. Kind of like throwing a faster putter (Aero). You can get distance, but you can't "force" it. The Buzzz is faster, which makes it a little tricky to control for finesse shots ... not that it can't be done, it's just easier with a Comet.

I got an ESP Comet LE last week and as I have never thrown the Comet before...I have to say that I really like it. I played a course with only mids...Storm, Buzz, Wasp & the new Comet.
What I noticed about the Comet is that it really floats a long way without a lot of effort. It just floats so nice. It is pretty understable...that being said you can throw it softer, with a little hyzer and it just goes straight as an arrow. Its a great disc for situations where you have a lot of OB on the left and you just can't have a disc hyzer out...but its not understable enough to just nosedive right.
I am really looking forward to practicing a lot with this disc as I can already tell that as I learn this disc it will be a great utility disc for MANY situations.
The ESP version really does feel sweet in the hand and the ESP plastic has already endured some pretty good tree hits without any gashes.
I'm already considering getting another one. A great straight, floating, disc.

Big Mac (MHDGC/CO bro)! Try a Z Comet ... if you can find one. It's my favorite plastic for the Comet. A little more overstable new, breaks in to a really sweet flier that will hold a straight line longer. One of the coolest/best Comets ever is the Blue Sparkle Ron Russell Comet that were around a couple of years ago. Amazing flight, and a really beautiful disc! I have a few stashed away. :D

I have a thrashed X comet that I let newbies use. It's a great first disc. I also use a Z comet when I play one disc golf. It's quite versitile, very accurate, and if you've got form and power, pretty long too. The ESP will join my soon I'm sure.

the blue sparkle Ron Russell Z Comets were my first love, but the limited availability drove me away. i remember trying to settle for some regular Z Comets later, but everywhere i checked was out of them and i knew they'd be tough to replace too. Such a great disc, yet limited availability... fortunately i discovered a suitable replacement that i am now happily married to.

My Stokleyitis in my elbow from throwing forehand for 13 years has forced me to decrease the amount of forehands, the Comet has made the transition very easy. Simply floats right and right and right.
Watching Ron Russell throw a Comet is one of the coolest shots I've seen over the years.
The ESP's grip and feel great and fly very similar to the Z version.
TG
I just remembered that I have one of those signed signature series Ron Russel comets stored away. I liked that type of plastic for the comet. I haven't thrown one of those in years.

Much faster, and more overstable.
I like the Z-Glide, very fun disc... How does the comet compare.... The only down side to the glide is that it will break right just thinking about puting too much snap on it ....... N E thoughts?

I used to throw a Z glide for long right turns until I bought a Comet and I have never looked back since. The comet is way eaisier to control. Its so slow almost as slow as a putter but it glides forever. The comet is awsome is a tailwind. I love throwing it on long tailwind holes where everyone is throwing a driver. Throw it with a hyzer and high and just watch it flip up turn over a bit and glide forever.

The comet is slower, but much more accurate. I had the glide in my bag a while early last year, but it's lack of predictability forced it out. The comet is much more versitile; it can be throw for hyzers, straight shots, and anhyzer.

I agree with the above description of the Glide vs. Comet. The Comet is much slower and therefore more accurate. Also, I've found that if thrown with proper technique, you can throw a comet about as hard as you want to. I'm not able to do this with a Glide, I'm not saying it's not possible, I just haven't had it react the way I want.
The Comet glides further than any disc in it's speed range. If you want a disc that will fly on a straight line through it's entire flight, the Comet can do this (I'm talking +350' dead straight!). If you want it to hold a hyzer the entire time, it can do that. And finally, most importantly, if you want it to hold an anhyzer the entire flight, it will do so willingly.
The main thing to remember while learning the comet is that it's a rather comlex disc to learn, and all the nuances don't always come quickly. Have patience while learning the disc and try not to give it up after a couple hours. Most discs don't take more than a couple hours to really learn with confidence how to throw, I'd say that learning the Comet is a never-ending journey, but the more devotion you give it, the more you will understand about driving in general, with any disc.
Ok, sorry this has been a bit long-winded, I really like the Comet and have a lot of respect for the disc.

One more thing. The Ron Russell blue Z-Comet is my primary mid and is by far the straightest disc I have thrown.
I don't throw the X-Comets often because they are not very durable, but when brand new they have a beautifully smooth flight pattern. They are less overstable then either of the Z models.
The new Z-Comet (released about 2 years ago?) are the most overstable Comets, a little too overstable in my opinion and require a bit of a break-in period.
I have not thrown the new ESP Comet yet, so I can't review it.

I have not thrown a comet before. From what it sounds like, it might be similar to my beat up DX coyote (which I love very much). I am curious what weight you all would recommend for the ESP comet. Sometimes I don't like touch discs in max weight as I don't want to get up to the tee pad and think I have to throw it hard. I still want the disc to be predictable too though, what seems to be a good balance for you?
