Ok I don't want to sound like a tard by asking "What Is The Best Meal" to eat before a tournament but I was wondering....
Since its part of peoples routine what do you all eat to get you powered up and through the first long round?
I have been doing the Carbing up routine that marathon runners do and I'm wondering if its good for discgolf.

When i used to play roller hockey I used to eat a big Peanut butter and Fluff sandwich with a big glass of milk.. probably not the best meal before sweating in 100 degree heat, but it seemed to work well as I won 2 championships as well as 2 break away champ and 1 fastest skater.
Nowadays I just eat whatever my stomach will handle in the morning. I almost always feel nauseas when I first wake up.

I've wondered the same thing of Pro (ball) Golfers. I'm glad you asked. So far the thing that's worked the best for me has been protein (even a fast food breakfast sandwich)and fruit. I can safely say that's it's bad to eat Indian food the night before a tournament...unless you're Punjabi.

Seriously though here is my thoughts, I try to avoid greasy food or a lot of sugar, not necassarily carbs. I like a ham or bacon, egg, and biscuit, got your carbs and proteins in there. I also like to have some fruit, trail mix or granola with me during rounds. If you are taking in a lot of carbs make sure they are complex or you have some with you or you will crash after eating pancakes with extra syrup, orange juice, and an energy drink on the way. Also know yourself don't eat anything that upsets your stomach, very difficult to find a "facility" during the round. One other thing, at least for me, don't overeat during a hot tournament those first few holes are miserable if you do.

My pre-tourney breakfast is nearly always the same thing. I find a little mom-and-pop diner and order 4 (sometimes more) eggs over easy with hash browns and at least 4 strips of bacon. I top that off with either decaf coffee (if it's cold out) or orange juice.
If there is no little diner available to me then I get the same ingredients in a breakfast burrito.

OK, Drew, I've spent over fifty years researching pre-exertion diets, so believe me, I know what I'm talking about - frosted cinnamon/sugar pop tarts, banana's (brown) and chocolate in most any form followed by the malted beverage of your choice (non PDGA events of course).
You're welcome. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D

Pasta or pizza with lots of water the night before. Then a light breakfast #1 at MacD's. I think I am going to grab some breakfast diner take out (2 eggs, ham, hash browns) this Sunday, as it is a 2 hour drive to the course.

Sonic Supersonic Breakfast Burrito also fits the bill.
Eggs, sausage, TOTS, onions, tomato, cheese, in a tortilla, with extra salsa. That is a well rounded meal right there.
Gotta have my TOTS!

Ed Zachary. They are what Eggos wish they could be - high fiber and protein, complex carbs, low fat and sugar, and yummy!! Really easy to pop in the toaster, slap on some p-nut butter and chow on the way to the course, since I'm usually running late... :D

Thanks for the link & lowdown. Do you have any more links like that? The only one i can think of right now is www.deansbeans.com (http://www.deansbeans.com) (organic coffee, etc.).
Anyone know an organic coffee place that sells cinammon hazelnut whole bean coffee? (Dean's Beans does not)

If really early morning , a bowl of Oatmeal with butter , little sugar and Blueberries.
One banana , some 2% milk and a cup of good coffee !!!!!!
This will hold you well into lunch time !!!!!!
For Lunch , have a good sandwich , 12oz of Gatorade and a Apple !!!!!
This should hold you the day , until dinner time , which is at the end of the disc golf day. :D

Eat what ever you can eat that doesn't give you an upset stomach, or the desire to search out a port-a-jon mid round.
I drink a pot of coffee every morning, so coffee doesn't affect me much. But I typically keep it light in the morning, bagels/muffins/lightly buttered toast. But I need a hot lunch between tournament rounds. I eat fast food typically, but even when I was a long distance runner back in the day, I would eat the biggest value meal McDonalds had the day of a cross country meet.
But the best thing for me is to make sure I keep up my sugar and water levels. My eyes go wacky if either of them get too low, so keep a granola bar in my bag.

Eat anything you want, but try to avoid foods that require your digestive system to work overtime. Blood from your extemities will pool in your torso to help digestion. You need that blood to remain in your brain to make critical decisions and in your arms so you have full control of your shots.
