Which do you prefer and why? if you like both -- what differences do you note and what kind of shots do you go to each one for?

Starrrrrrr. Never got the Champions to fly straight and hyzer anywhere near as well as the Stars do. They are one of the most underrated discs out there right now, especially for intermediate to advanced players.

Awesome disc.

star...
for what I use the disc for, I like the extra glide that I get out of the star plastic, and it beats up a little more quickly than champ does initially. i've never liked throwing champ TLs for some reason.

I prefer SE TL's but since its between Champ or Star I am going with Champ. They seem to take a better beating without changing the flight. My Star TL's were already turning over after month, while my Champ. which I've had for 3 months is still straight. But I can tweak it for an anhyzer or hyzer and reset it if I have to.

Star, baby! I used to throw Champ and Pro, but once I got my Star last March I traded all my other ones. I thought the Champ was fairly straight to slightly overstable, but not all that versatile. The Pros were great anhyzer and roller discs, but a little squirrely when trying to throw straight or hyzer.

The Star, on the other hand, is the most versatile driver I own. I can do anything with it. I use it for big hyzers that I want to hold the angle and glide, straight tight woods shots, big anhyzers, uphill distance, rollers, it's amazing.

If I didn't throw Rocs or Wizards, I might have said the Star TL was my favorite disc.

Star TLs are my go discs!!

I used to throw Glow Champ and Champ TLs, and its collecting up the dust.

Star are the sweetest plastic for TLs. Perfect disc for Hole 1 at Brown Deer Course, 2007 AM worlds.

I am starting to switch all of my champion discs over to star. I will still carry the champs I have but the discs that I carry both star and champ for I seem to consistently get more distance on the star discs.

I've thrown CE, Pro, Star, and Champ glow. I listed them in my order of preference. My CE was bought cheaply, and nicely seasoned. I use it for straight shots, tunnels, and anhysers. Still stable enough that it will hold a hyser, and when my back is bothering me I cannot flip it. Only when I'm fealing ok and snapping with 325+ power can I turn it over.

The Pro I only had for a couple of days before I lost it, but it was a great straight flyer that rivaled my 'max distance' drivers for controllable D. My back was pretty good while I had this, and it was 5 grams lighter, and I was able to hyzer-flip it. Not sure why I haven't replaced it. Didn't have it long enough for the drastic break in often spoken of in the Pro plastic .

Star is ok. A little more low speed stable then my CE, but a little less predictable. I keep it in my bag mostly as a backup for the CE though for those danger zone shots.

The Champ Glow was my first, I got it pretty early while still really learning to throw drivers for any kind of distance and control, and I never thought I was getting a real handle on it. I first started getting distance out of flex S-shots with stable plastic and the Champ TL would just keep going left without coming back. I can say now that it was mostly user error, I couldn't really consistantly throw flat for any D at the time, and forget hyzer flips. I took it out of my bag because I had another disc that overlapped it a bit but would come back out of a flex, and never put it back because it was hard to find on the course. I have another in orange with the final small CE stamp in the early translucent Champion plastic, and would try it, but don't really need to with the other discs in my bag.

Don't know if any of that will help, but those are my experiences. Just writing it makes me want another Pro TL though.

a TL in either plastic seems to have the same flight path but I will say that the Star does beat up much faster.

I prefer the SE and CE TL's but will have to try a Star again. Had one and threw it twice before a prairie swallowed it up.

I prefer buying champ TB's and letting them beat in naturally, thus becoming TL's at high speed but retaining that great TB fade at low speed. I've only thrown the TL in pro, but it was too flippy outta the box. Maybe I should try one in star... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Star TLs are slowly replacing my 10x Teebirds. They are dead straight for me brand new and slowly beat in to become a nice hyzer-flip disc. Excellent control driver.

I loved my star TL but it got too flippy. Even with a mad hyzer it flipped too quickly. I have a xout Champion TL but It feels funny. I have a ce TL that I like but I tried to replace all of my CE discs with something else. THe star was awesome for about 2 or 3 months. I might just have to buy another one. I still throw my champion eagle alot though. It broke in nice.

The star Tl is a great disc for the bag....Starting out u can use it for 400' plus hyzers...as the disc beats in u can throw incredible glide anhyzers a very long way....The TL and the Firebird are the 2 discs I throw that are most often followed by 'what was that?'

Would you mind explaining this a little more to me? I have been enjoying my glo champ TL as it is totally straight with predictable fade and excellent glide. I can throw it any way imaginable. I am curious why you felt the Star TL was that much different for you. The only thing I notice when i throw Star TL's is that they have a tad less glide and they start to fade earlier and harder. Is the added predictability of the extra stability what you're referring to? The glo champ is pretty darn stable as it is

My 2 cents...

The TL has always been one of my go-to discs. Straight, accurate, good distance, and easy to throw.

I've thrown one in just about every plastic out there-

1st run CE TL: kinda domey and flippy, great plastic though...
2nd run CE TL: BEST! Flatter and more stable than first run, plastic is STIFFFFF! Indestructable!
Pro TL: Great "out of box", but beats WAY too fast. A turnover disc after a week at DeLa.
2003 CFR TL: Really nice. Super straight after beating in a bit. Good grip too, better than standard Champion plastic. Durable, I've had the same one in my bag for over 2 years!
Glow Champion TL: Definitely more overstable than others, flies like a regular TB, just with more glide. Pretty nice in lighter weights...
Star TL: Too overstable out of box, beats somewhat fast compared to others. But there is a period in there where it is very nice (i.e. beat, but not too beat). Grip is good.

I agree with you about the Glow TL. Just that its too stiff that makes harder to stretch down the fairway. Star TL is just right and always flies further in high speed than Glow TL. My Star TL, I would throw its max up to 400 ft, while Glow TL, the best drive I could throw is like 350 ft. All those plastic have similar flight pattern but Star plastic has the best grippy feeling.

P.S. of course I use Glow TL, go disc, for night rounds. :D

wow, yeah, I would totally agree with this. I throw mostly max weight plastic but when I ordered the glo ch TL I made sure to get it a tad lighter at 172. At this weight it flies just like a regular TeeBird. As it begins to age it just keeps flying straighter and straighter. The plastic is slightly more flexible than translucent champ and has a little better grip and leaves my hand more consistently. It is a tad flatter than the Star TL I threw. I also love the CE and SE TLs but i wanted a disc i could replace more easily.
Anyway... i think we can all agree the TL is a great disc. predictable, mostly straight, feels great in the hand and has plenty of speed and glide to spare.

Right on. yeah, it makes a huge difference when you can really just grab a disc and rip it. The feel and flexibility make a huge difference.
