The city will be out at McClain again this Saturday with another work crew. Stacey and I will be playing the Bobcat Open and will not be available to meet with them at McClain to show them what needs to be done out there. Is there anyone that can meet with them this Saturday? If some of you can, let me know and I will tell you what needs to be done. I know there is alot going on this weekend but all it takes is one. I'll be at the Bobcat too. If nobody can make it then can we send the parks dept the task list and ask them knock those out. We may need to add some tasks and be a little more specific but that might work too.

I TRIED to play the back nine today. It's tough because of the narrow fairways and very long grass off the fairways. Very easy to lose some discs out there. I walked Hole 2 and it is sooooo flooded again. :( I finally walked to the creek between Holes 2 and 3. It stops about halfway down the fairway and then flows out and all over Holes 2 and 3 fairways. The little trenches we dug at the end of Hole 2 are not going to solve the problem. We have to connect that half creek into the creek behing Hole 2. Is there something we could rent to accomplish this or do we need to get the city to do this. Just remember how long the city has taken to do anything to maintain McClain. :(

GREAT!!! Steve with SA Parks called me today and wanted to make sure we were all on the same page. I let him know that you'd be out there to meet Johnny w/ the community service crew. Also, SA Parks will be out there again on Sunday with the big tractor. :)

next time you talk to Steve remind him about the followup to the brush pickup... especially 15 and 17 and 9.
it's not high priority but they were supposed to remove that fence along the center of the powerline easement as well... it would probably make mowing out there 100 times easiers.
when you put loppers in their hands, keep reminding them what to cut and what NOT to cut... the first work day I had with them they were trying to take out a 5 inch prisimone tree ... funny to watch but really sad for the tree and the hole.

Johnny w/ SAPAR will also be out with the big tractor on Sun! I'll be out there as well.
Joe- If you have any problems.......use the number I gave you.
In talking with Steve, who is working w/ Alma on projects, we discussed the brush piles and fence. We'll have the community service group every Sat. for 6 weeks and we can put that on the agenda for the next Sat., his main goal is to get everything mowed. Also, by next Sat. he can get extra trailers for hauling. Then maybe, the following Sat. we can start the trench project...........might as well use the muscle while we got it. :) :D
Everyone- Have a great weekend! For those playing tourneys.....get 'em!!! :DFor those working on the Extravaganza...............keep up the good work!!!!! :cool:For those working at McClain.........Thanks!!! :)

We were not able to make it out to McClain until around 10:30 this morning and did not see Johnny (maybe he left). We played the back nine exept for Hole 17. The work crew really cleaned up the Tee Boxes, Around Baskets and even looked liked some fairways were widened. Those holes are looking really good, Thanks. We also played Holes 6-9 and noticed lots of bees made their home in some trees. They are on Hole 6 large tree at end of fairway on left by basket. Hole 16, second or third big tree on left of fairway. Be careful on these holes. There are also some watermelons growing on the back of Tee Box 10, give them a drink if your playing a round. :)

If you are out playing a round at McClain, please be aware that there are snakes at the park just like Live Oak and UC. This is Texas and we have venomous snakes that live here with us. If you are off the fairway be aware of your surroundings and if you do see a snake DO NOT try and mess with it. I have not seen one at any of the courses but have heard of others seeing them. I looked up info about the snakes native to these areas and am going to print out pictures of the venomous ones and post them at McClain. You are more likely to be struck by lightning then get bit by a snake (at least thats what I read). Just keep your eyes open. See you all on Saturday. :)

The day that I broke my leg, I had to walk around a 4 foot Diamondback rattler. It was laying across the trail leading to the # 2 tee box. I had to go through the small saplings. I should have taken that as a warning not to play #2. :o:o:D

Dude I don't know it was venomous or if it was even a snake for that matter but I saw a Hydra out there. The most recent scientific evidence had suggested it was extinct and likely not to be seen again, and if it was to be seen they are usually ground in or near water. But alas ... I saw this one on hole 18 with no water in sight.

You're right Bird, I have heard of Snakes in LO & UC and Jimbob and I have seen one in LO but, all I have heard recently about McClain is Snakes even jokes about it, so that is why I am asking how recent was the latest sighting just like I would ask about LO & UC... I know how tight those holes can be and having beginners playing out there causes concerns is all....
Thank you for your information, and I will let my LOLO's know to be careful tomorrow and Scott thanks for the pics that helps a lot, I always wondered what a Coral & Cottomouth looks like YIKES!!! What we go through to play this wonderful game of DISC GOLF!!! :D:D

To further emphasize Bird's reqest!
A word of warning. In my job I deal with several city offices with regards to planning. One of the offices is the city arborist. With everyone "going green" this office is presently carrying tremendous clout. Check with any Civil Engineer or Architect, or for that matter check with Shawn. You could face a pretty hefty fine for removing trees if caught.
One architect I deal with regularly was designing a small retail strip center. People from the arborist's office were actually measuring Live Oak seedlings on the site. In his design a certain amount of seedlings had to remain after construction.
This also looks bad on the rest of us who are trying to achieve additional courses in SA parks.

When I got to the fairway I knew it would take lots of work to get it playable but then Scott H. and Terrance showed up. :) I had planned to only start clearing the hole but a couple of hours later......It's Playable!!! We moved brush piles, cut grass, trimmed eye poking limbs and threw some discs. Terrance just happened to see us on hole 17 when he showed up looking for a disc he lost yesterday. After he found it, he was asking for a pair of gloves to help out. :) We really knocked out alot and now we can actually play the entire McClain Course. Thanks guys for helping out....I know I appreciate it.

congrats on the ace. I will try to update the stats on the site in the next week or so.
its sad to hear about the trees being cut down. the course design was specific and the idea was there was basically underbrush left to clear not any more trees unless they became a hazard (like hole 5). if people really want to remove stuff, take out the briar and brush. that's more of a benifit than anything else. if you think a tree is in the way of your perfect shot then you need to develop more shots... that was the mindset behind this park. Help people see new routes and develop more shots.
I hope to make it out to a mini soon and was wondering if anyone had any connections to railroad companys? railroad ties would work great for small foot bridges... maybe.

There will be NO Saturday Mini at McClain on 11-17-07 due to TX Teams Tournament in Wimberley. I will also be on vacation playing in a Tournament in Chatanooga, TN on Thanksgiving weekend. If someone wants to run the mini in my absence, please let me know and I will give you the "stuff". ;)

Oct. 24th McClain Post-Thanksgiving Birdiefest
In honor of Thanksgiving and to compensate for all of the tryptophan still left in our systems, the November 24th McClain mini will be a birdiefest. Holes will be shortened to make for more birdies. Come on out and gobble some birdies.

I want to thank you all for showing up. We are all helping to beat this course in. I will be going out there after TX Teams and start clearing areas around the baskets (Briar, Eye Poking Branches). We shouldn't get that punished for throwing off the fairways. Make sure to play the Saturday after Thanksgiving (All Birdie Holes). Could the Ace Pot go down that day? We'll See :)

SADC has its own thread.
Of course it is appropiate. The same people belong to both groups. If LODGA was having a meeting I think it would appropriate to let people know via all methods possible. I plan on posting to other threads like San Marcos and Austin groups in case any of them want to attend.
What isn't appropiate are some peoples attitudes. Nobody owns a thread, all messageboard users can post whatever they want to any thread they want so long as it doesn't violate the messageboard useage policies.
Hopefully you'll be in attendance at the meeting.

HFDS has a monthly meeting the first Tuesday of every month if anyone is ever in Houston. :p LOL
Remember, we all love disc golf. :D
I wish we had more than one organized group in our area, you guys are lucky and don't even know it.

I thought we were trying to coexist. We belong to BOTH Clubs. Should we not post anything about McClain, Nani, Pearsall or Voelker Parks on this thread?

from Jerry Lively:
The park police have been patroling the park. They said it is illegal to park off the pavement. That is a warning. However, they noticed all the beer cans in the trash bags and said that is a tickeable offense. Drinking is illegal in any city of San Antonio park.
