Thanks for the info Stan! Cannot wait to tackle the Oaks course again! I'm hoping the winds are a little gentler this year.

Cheers,

Any info on host hotels, cheap hotels or camping?

Hi Rich,

Camping in the immediate area is limited, and unless you have the gear for inclement weather, I'd advise against it. There are numerous hotels/motels in the area. The cheapest will be in Marina and Seaside, and they will be more expensive as you head away from CSUMB and towards Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel.

Cheers,
Steve

This is always a fun, well run tourney, thanks to Merle.

Lodging may be an issue, as the Pebble Beach Pro/Am is this weekend. Hotel prices are more expensive than usual. It may be worth looking into hotels in Watsonville, as it is not as close to Pebble, and may not be impacted. There is a Red Roof Inn and Motel 6 near freeway on-ramps. Golf traffic through Moss Landing may make that trip a bit longer. Maybe Salinas, too.

Uh-oh. Since the AT&T is the same weekend (Feb 5 thru 11th), Monterey will be a total ZOO! Katie makes a good point about lodging. Most things in the Monterey area will be booked, although I think some less expensive options in Seaside and Marine might still be available. My advice is to start looking ASAP.
Cheers,
Steve

I spoke with Merle (TD) last night and he indicated the tournament was nearly full (close to 100 players to date), with only a few spots left in Open and Advanced (more in other divisions). So if you are interested in playing, send in your form ASAP.
Cheers,
Steve :D

Tournament tee positions have not been marked yet, and there is the potential that some of the existing placements might not be used at both courses.

Also, poison oak is just starting to produce leaves. But today was very calm, although the forecast is wet...

Four days to go... :D

Steve

Merle posted on the club site that the tournament is full and no same-day registrations will be allowed. Played the Cypress course Feb 7th in the afternoon and the tee placements are in--look for the blue stones with white numbers. Be careful when teeing on the funky asphalt--when wet it can be very slick.

Cheers,
Steve

Lotta good players signed up. Hey, Andrew Rich! Don't remember seeing Sug on the reg list! Anyway, it's probably pouring on the coast today. Look out for J. Michael Barry in Open!

Congratulations to Nate Doss and his second successful defense of his Open title at the Otter Open! And congrats to all the other local winners. Merle and his crew of collegiate players did a great job, and the weather even cooperated (for the most part).

It was good to see you, John. Maybe one of these days I'll play well enough to move up to your card! :p

Cheers,
Steve
