Played Tuscawilla Disc Golf Course Monday afternoon. Played with my buddy Jamie and we decided to play the B pads(am pads) and the A pads(pro pads) at the same time. We played each disc from each pad to completion of the hole. No extra throws, putts or fooling around.
I ended up shooting a 41, 13 down from the Pro pads.
This score is a new course record for Tuscawilla. or is it?
Some club members think the score should have an asterisk by it since i played two rounds at once. Some think I had an advantage playing 2 pads at once, some think the opposite, that it was harder having to concentrate on two rounds at the same time.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Don't know if I should enjoy this accomplishment or dismiss it as just another round of golf..

Official course records should only count when in some form of competition, even if it's a local league. Technically, most of the shots you took playing the short tees would be considered practice throws added to your 41 if you want to strictly follow PDGA rules. (Excellent round, regardless :))

Course record? No.
I have a course record where someone has shot better than me casually, but since I did it in a tournament, I technically have the record.

Does that mean that there is no course record at Pratt Park, which has never hosted a PDGA event? Or is Mose's 46 at 2005 VA States (WFDF event) "good enough" to count?

Depends on who cares? If there's not a signboard at the course where it's posted, then does it matter? Many courses have alternate pins and who knows if the record round they think they threw matches the layout for the posted record if there is one. In some ways, the highest rated round on a course in competition would be a better measure since it accounts for any differences in pin placements.

Chuck,
Guess my facetious tone didn't translate to my post. Course record is a course record in my book, tourney or no tourney!

I usually specify "official" or "unofficial" when talking about records. Official means in a sanctioned tournament. Unofficial is any other round.

Scott Wolfe and I used to debate this. He would contend that *any* extra practice tee shot thrown after your official drive, or practice putt thrown after your official putt negates any claims to a course record. I thought that was preposterous. I'm on the side that contends that for all practical purposes it's likely harder having to concentrate on playing two rounds at once!
Chris, sorry to ask some dumb questions, but is it safe to assume that <ul type="square"> No one has ever shot -13 from the Pro pads and this would indeed be a course record? I would reckon you've already verfied this with the course pro / designer / etc. You were absolutely certain that there was no chance that you accidentally played from the am tee throw on one of the holes, or counted the score from that set of throws on a particular hole? [/list]
If you can satisfy that then by all means it should be a course record, imo.

The only thing is that you essentially have throws from the short tees that do not count that allow you to test course conditions prior to throwing some of the shots for the round that counted.
How is the wind at the end of this hole ?
How much will the firebird skip by this basket ?

Facetious or not, my remarks are still the same.

I was very careful to play each disc out for each pad to completion.
I played with Jamie Ruane who is one of the course designers and our course pro. He knows exactly where I shot from and that I did shoot the -13.
I have held the current -11 course record for about 7 years and share it with my brother. This is the first -13 on this course.
We always say to have a shot at the course record you need to be 10 down through twelve holes. I was 7 down through 9 holes, so I really started to focus. Birdied the next 3 holes and had my 10 down through twelve. Then the jitters started coming into play. I made a great par save on hole 13. Hole was playing about 450 ft. I smacked a sign about 150 ft off the tee pad. Pin is on a hill with water right, 10 feet from the basket and surrounded by trees. Let my approach fly and landed it 2 feet from the pin. Jitters left quick, and I only parred 2 more holes, 16 and 18.
Everything was clicking that afternoon!
Haven't said a word since Monday to anyone about it being the new course record. To many snide remarks and "whatevers". People ask, I say I shot -13 down. Take it for what its worth.
A bunch of players on the fence about this one, with practice throws and practice putts.
It's not like I threw 2 discs from the pro pads or two putts from the same lie. Pro pads are longer so we always threw them first, couldn't get a read on the wind since we didn't throw the am pads first. Played the putts out as the lied, sometimes the pro pad putt was first, sometimes the am pad putt.
I'll just have to prove myself during a Sunday Handicap. Hope it's soon. If I do it again, Good Luck shutting me up!
Thanks for everyones input.
No "course record", just the best round shot on this course.

That's not true. It's the unofficial course record ...and what sounds like one heck of a round.
Around here an official course record takes place during a round that's being recorded; like rounds in a tournament, league, weekly mini or traveling mini.
Congrats!

Played the Sunday Handicap on Jan. 21st.
I Shot a new course record for Tuscawilla Park a 42. 12 birdies, 6 pars. -12. It's not a -13 but it is the New "official" Course Record.
No IFS, ANDS or MISSED PUTTS.
Thanks to all for their input and giving me the drive and determination to accomplish this goal.

I have a course record that was from a league. So it was carded and witnessed. As far as anyone around here is concerned it's official.

I shot a "course record" at Bryant Park in Albany. It was the first time that that particular layout was played. (Very similar to the one the year previous, but a little different.) I shot a -8 as an Am and bested the Pro field by 3 strokes I believe. Was rated a 1040, my best tourney round ever.

Oh yeah, speaking of temporary courses. I also have the course record at Zion National Park! A -4 through four holes! (We set up a ching on a huge rock and played it from four different tees. It was on the way to Am Worlds in Flagstaff.)
