I checked my computer files and the MFA paytables were still paying 33% to pros as late as 1997. When Randy Schukar got involved in developing flatter paytables for Ams, we updated the paytables somewhere between 1998-1999 to move pros to approx 37.5% and Ams ranged from 40-50%. The move for pros to go to 40% as a base was just 2006. But the option to go to 50% has been available to TDs for pro payouts for several years when a significant percentage of the payout (~20%+) comes from added cash.

Some may say but you havent touched on the %s of pros paid out, so please let me add:

It also foresaw 50% as a long term ideal, given this is where ball golf has evolved to. But at the moment its at 40% which is basically 1/2 way between the 33% and 50% in this thread's original title ... Is this where it should be today?

But we are no where as evolved as ball golf. We are like 33% of what they are. 40% payout is still just fine with me. The whole option of 50% payout is just rediculous. When disc golf evolves in a sport where a person can literally make a good living from tournaments, then make it optional. It is then, a great move for the PDGA.

I am only an AM1 player, but i see a lot and I take everything into account for when i turn pro after am worlds.

I know nothing that I say will change anything, but I just wanted to voice my opinions.

thank you.
