Since we're on the subject of Earlewood, might as well get the party started for March Madness 2007! Guaranteed $400 to winning Pro. Let's get the registrations in early this year and the field full a couple weeks before the tournament and have a waiting list going. Maybe if we attract enough players we can have 2 separate tournaments, 1 for Am and one for Open. Email Chris Sauls for more information.

I think you should have 2 separate events anyway.

One day we will. However, due to the fomat of the tournament we must have either 32 pros or 48 or 64....Any other number in between would create a bunch of 1st round byes. Since last year was the first time we had 32, it may be a while before it expands. But, it has gotten bigger every year so who knows.
We do expect to have something special this year.

2 separate events, or a larger event, or a 2-day event (single or double elimination) may be looming in the future if demand warrants. The unusual format presents unusual problems:
* Maximum 72 players on the course at any one time (can't use fivesomes).
* Adding even 1 more player beyond 32 in a division, means the addition of 1 whole additional round to the tournament. Doesn't matter if we have 34 or 64---still an additional round, longer day, more play for the champion, etc.
* Adding another round but not filling it---say, a division of 34-58 players---means a lot of byes along the way. We had byes in earlier, non-sanctioned years, but last year filled both divisions so there were none, a happier situation.
* A 2-day tournament would have a lot of players eliminated on the first day, and possibly having to hang around anyway if they travelled with players who are still in contention.
None of which can't be overcome, and I've talked with Chris about future expansion. Some ideas include a play-in for the last spot or two, starting Ams and Pros at different times, Masters divisions (if we could fill one with 16 players), or the big jump to 2 days.
Best way to get there is to fill early and have demand for additional spots this year.

I will continue my un-beaten streak at the Madness this March. What?

TThis is match play your redness. Logic dictates that you cannot win. Who am I to argue with logic, it's science son.

Sadly I have not, I plan to win on determination alone, and maybe some luck.
