We finish the Habitat house this weekend. I will b' dere!

Hey snowbirds, It should be about 80 degrees by then come on by and be the first on your block this year to get a sunburn!

32 degrees today ( I hope a few billion mosquitos died a horrible death last night) and 80 degrees in two weeks,
that's the Texas gulf coast.

yup.
for some reason I play better in snqualifier events. 6 for 6 with ave winnings around $200.00. And if you only have like 6 points u will be playing with some donators on hole #15 which is the tightest part of the course.

6 of 6 eh? I remember beating you at Shawshank. :D

I was 5 for 5 until that event and if it wasn't a SN then I guess we are both still perfect. :D

OK - I just signed up for MG1 for this weekend.

Let's just hope that the forecast for Port Arthur weather keeps improving. Hard to imagine that with weather like we are having today, that it's supposed to be so "iffy" for Saturday. We could use a break! :D

how far is this place from Houston?

ching_lizard
Jan 25 2007, 09:01 PM
Joe - from my neck of the woods (by 290 and 610) MapQuest shows it as 98 miles and 1hr56minutes away. It isn't too bad...a tad shorter than driving to either Austin or San Antonio. But I'm more interested in seeing how the place is coming back together after Rita. Good, Houck designed course too!!!! :D

Here's the MapQuest map that shows the cut-off you want to take off from I-10 to Port Arthur.

You might need to pan to the East a bit more and then zoom in to see the bridge taking you across to the island.

SuperGirl wanted to attend this tournament. We have wanted to play in a Pleasure Island tournament for a couple of years now, but we always seem to have a schedule conflict. Unfortunately she has a schedule conflict this weekend too. She is competing in a soccer tournament in Austin this weekend.

Good luck everyone.........Rick

PS..I once knew a girl who lived in Port Arthur (she lived in Port Neches too for a while). We met at a place called camp Sionito. We lost touch many, many years ago. Her name was Debbie Patrick and she was really something special. So Port Arthur will always have a special place in my heart.

Anyone else think we were seeing the start of a limerick here? :D

I once knew a girl from Port Arthur
She could hurl a frisbee much farther
All kiddin aside
Hers had lots of glide
So I decided to dump her for soccer.

:D

(Sorry Rick...I couldn't resist - but at least I kept it clean!)

Cold STAR pizza and hot Starbuck's for breakfast...YEAH BABY!! Harry, you'd better get to bed early, old man. haha

I went out to the park yesterday and threw a few drives. My wrist was buckling on me like a sumbitch. Looks like I'll be throwing a lot of flickers in the wind tomorrow. And...oh yes...there will be wind. :D

Wow, looks like there are three adv grands and only one adv master. If I turn out to be the only one, how 'bout you adv grandpas come down and play with me? I got no game no mo.

yaaaa shuuur! what have you got when you play in sunny, dry, calm, so-cal perfect conditions??? NO EXCUSES! Everybody should throw 1000+ rated rounds, just like the Texas State champion Barry Shultz Another boring round in paradise..... But play in the cold and rain, throw in a little wind...bingo! 100 perfectly reasonable explanations for why you didn't, in fact, couldn't be expected to execute that 20 foot putt. Now that's a quality golf experience....besides, think of all the stories you have about all the horrific conditions you braved your way through. The comraderie you will have with your fellow sufferers, er, diehard dg warriors that builds into life-long friendships, The pneumonia that followed and your miraculous recovery...

Rare are the chances to have an epic tournament that you can lie, er...talk about for decades....This may be the oportunity of a lifetime!:D :D

We got pounded by rain all during the first round...it finally stopped during lunch and was replaced by a 15 MPH wind from the NE. But the sun came out the second round and everyone warmed up nicely! :D

Many thanks for the tourney Rick!

Sad to see how many trees the course lost to Rita, but there were still enough to make it challenging on many holes!

Big thanks goes out to our HUGE (0K - well 4 was large) MG1 field! ROMB card was great fun guys!

Are you sure? I remember evry hole except 1 or 2 being pretty easy to birdie.

ching_lizard
Jan 27 2007, 08:50 PM
Yeah...probably true Matt...I snagged 3 birdies in the second round and hit chains on 2 more. Wind was playing in a good direction for a lot of the longer ones too...

It looked like a few holes were a bit different now too (like they'd moved the tees or pins...#11 and #12 both looked like new holes...but I don't remember the course that well from before.)

the_kid
Jan 27 2007, 08:53 PM
Yeah the event last year had those same tees. There was only 1 hole over 500ft.
