there will be 18 more holes at snowmass ski area this summer. they will be innova discatcher baskets. the initial plan is to have a par 54 course and a par 72 course. we have always had brand new course layouts every season, but this season we will have 2 new layouts. as usual the courses will start @ the top of the burlingame lift. this is going to be AWESOME. we will be the first place in colorado with 36 holes. i've been skiing around the ski area since november scoping out new holes, and the possiblilities are endless. disc golf is gonna go off this season. i hope to see y'all out here.

the second set of 18 baskets have arrived and we will be putting them out in the next couple of weeks, as soon as the ski area drys up a little more. unfortunately, there will not be a par 72 course until next summer due to the moving of the race courses and halfpipe for next ski season. we just won't have enough acreage for a par 72 until this work is complete. however, we will still be the first place in colorado with two 18 hole courses. we should have both courses ready to play by june 8. this is our opening day for the lift.
summer lift schedule:
open on fri, sat, sun in june starting the 8th
open everyday (weather permitting) starting 6-22 thru 9-3
we will also be open a handful of weekends in september after labor day. also keep in mind that when the lift is closed, it is only a 15-20 minute hike to get up to the first tee boxes.
we usually keep the courses up until early october, weather permitting. 2 courses = 2x the fun. come on up.

finished putting up the east course today. many different changes from last year. some more uphill, but of course that means more downhill as well. lots more evevation change this year. still need to put out some signs, etc. but we do have 18 holes to play. most of the snow has melted and the course is dry. lift doesn't open til' next weekend but feel free to walk up. it's only 10-15 minutes up to the first tee. just follow the burlingame lift line up. we will be busy putting up the west course this weekend. hopefully that one will be ready to play buy wednesday or so. still have to put a fresh paint job on em'. see y'all out there.

We've had two 18 hole courses up here in snowmass now for about seven weeks now. The tee pads are a little mangled from heavy use and no rain, but i feel the courses are playing real well. I ended up naming the courses red and yellow, as the baskets are colored as such. The yellow course is roughly 6000' and the red course is about 8000'. There is a big mountain biking event going on this weekend so y'all won't be able to play the 16th, 17th, or 18th hole on the yellow course on friday, sat, or sun. I am hoping to get the courses mowed next week which will make finding discs easier. It's amazing how much has grown despite no rainfall. Hoping to host a PDGA tournament next year and am looking for some feedback from those who have played the courses.

In keeping with the PDGA course design guidelines for tees, you might want to consider making the Yellow (Gold) course the long one and the Red course the shorter one next year. Otherwise, sounds like you have a nice setup going.

I'm heading up to Aspen in a month. How do I get to the courses? Do I take the tram up to the top and play down? If I only have time to play one course, which one should I play?

snowmass is 8 miles from aspen. there are 2 ways to get to the courses. the easiest is to ride the chairlift up. it is $6 for an all day ticket which is good from 9:30am to 4pm. you can also walk up, which takes 15-30 minutes, depending on how fit you are. the yellow course is shorter but real sweet. it plays around 6000' and has more holes which are technical. the red course is longer, 8000' or so, and is more wide open. longer throwers will tend to score better on the red course. both courses have awesome views, water hazards, and lots of elevation change. hard to say which one i would play if i could only play one. would depend on what kind of golf i was looking to play at that moment. hope you make it up here to check it out. you won't be disappointed.

thanx...the old set of baskets were yellow and the new set were also yellow...i had to chose which ones to paint and i chose to paint the old ones due to the fact that they are over a decade and have some wear and tear...when this years course design were set, i decided to put the new yellow baskets on the course which is more visible but shorter...this meant that the old ones that we painted red would go on the long course...maybe next year i will re-paint the old baskets another color to try to keep things uniform...any suggestions ona different color??

The design color guidelines relate to tee colors not to baskets. So, pick whatever colors you prefer for the baskets. No problem if the Yellow course has tees marked Red if designed for that skill level and longer Blue tees on the Red course if those lengths are designed for blue level players. But I think you can see that maybe having the baskets either in sync with the tee colors might help reinforce the skill level intentions, especially if there's only one set of tees on a course. Or, just use colors for the baskets that aren't used in the tee color guidelines like orange, sky blue, pink or light purple. I'm surprised I haven't seen tie-dyed baskets yet...
