I know the Zippers were the first runs but what was so different about them? I have a friend that might have one but I would have to check...

They were actually stable.....flew more like Teebirds.

I love TeeBirds. I have a nice old stiff translucent Champion Edition one.

The Zipper Viking comes in handy in the cold weather. I pull that one of my bag when I need a better grip. It's my longest disc along with the Orc. Maybe it's a little bit softer than the later runs, but I could be wrong. I sank my other Zipper Viking into a lake last winter....still miss it.

I just ordered a special blend Orc to find a disc with a better grip.

b/c for some reason disc golfers like to spend money on certain types of discs when there are suitable replacements that are identitical (See 2001 Roc)

I have quite a few early Vikings, I'm not sure if they are zipper?? Hadn't heard that one yet. Any identifying clues.....

Run your fingers across the top plate. Sounds like a zipper.

Plus -as far as I know- they were all yellow with a silver stamp, close to max weight. But I could be wrong.

I've definitely thrown red 150s with that "zipper" effect when running your fingernail over the top.

Like when you run the pad of your finger across the top of a first run Starfire and it make it a sound like a DJ doing a vinyl scratch?

Not so fast, Willie-boy. IF you know how to handle your plastic, 150-class are sweet in the wind!

My highest-rated tourney round ever was in a gale at Hawk Hollow.

I've been looking for something a tad more stable then my Valks when it's windy. Viking the way to go or T-bird? I love proving the masses wrong about 150 class and the wind. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Honestly Ray, is there any disc in 150 you don't have?

williethekid
Jan 10 2007, 07:28 PM
tailwinds are not the problem, i have a superlight spirit (130ish) and when i throw it into a headwind it hyzers the whole way but goes a good 100' shorter than a normal spirit in a headwind, but it a tailwind flex shot... LATER.

Jan 10 2007, 07:53 PM
Ch. Viking & Ch. Teebird are relatively similar in stability for me. Viking maybe a tad flippier & somewhat longer; Teebird straighter & more predictable over a range of conditions.

If it exists (even in minute numbers) in 150-class, chances are I have a stack!

I just got a couple of 120g Speed Demon DTs from David Mac, but have yet to try 'em out.

149g gummy Champion Firebird will fly forever into a headwind for me!

speed demon dt's i bet you can rip those on huge flex shots.

I think I have to hate you now. :D

Oh 150 class guru: are those 150 QOLFs all that they are reported to be?

veganray
Jan 11 2007, 03:13 PM
Vegan Ray no likey QOLF (or SOLF). For me, they feel awkward in the hand (I have Arsenio-like spider fingers) & do pretty much what a "seasoned" DX TeeRex does, just not as predictably.
QOLF is slightly more predictable, but not much. It's not bad for 75% fairway drives, but, for me, I'm not quite sure what it's gonna do if I give it the full treatment.

Riverdog will have a different opinion, though; he swears by those babies!
