Any of the regular USDGC videos top my list. While the Marshall Street videos are hands down the worst I have watched. Well....the first two Scott Stokely videos are the worst from a video standpoint. I havn't seen the third SS video so I don't know what it looks like, but I bet it's the same.

1. MSDGC as a series, 05 is my personal favorite
2. 2003 USDGC
3. Skylands

As A2inNH said, no true professional disc golf dvd has been done yet. In terms of professional quality I think Skylands is the best (just can't stand the commentary). MSDGC would be up there, but as my brother-in-law pointed out (who works in video production) some things are very amatuerish, such as the shaking stills that pop up every 5 seconds. Still the most entertaining for someone oblivious such as myself

John only does the William Goodpull accent for the front 9, 2nd round.

Back 9 round 2 + ALL of Rounds 3 and 4 = John did "normal commentary", and I think it is pretty good.

Did you watch round 4? It isn't annoying, I promise

Humor is very difficult to accomplish in disc golf, and I applaud the attempt at it.

Keep in mind that most of these videos are made by volunteers; they are mostly amateur video camera operators with primarily amateur equipment. I'd say they do a darn good job all things considered.

If you wanted professional crews out there, these DVDs would cost a lot more money.

I unfortunately haven't had time to watch the entire DVD, so I'm sure the commentary is not annoying and good for the non-William Goodpull portions. My sincere apologies to Jen and John for generalizing on the entire DVD without being able to watch the entire thing.

I have never seen the comprehensive NT video, was it good? Why was there only that one ever made? I should check that out....

Also - I have gotten a lot of good and some bad feedback about the Skylands dvd. The bad - I have taken as constructive criticism. I think that next year will be a VERY good year for disc golf dvds in general. CHAINS looks AWESOME!!!

Next year, I will make the Willaim Goodpull audio track "optional". But he WILL return for all of you that liked him... if John agrees to do it...

The NT Tour DVD was too expensive to produce is my understanding. The only downside to it is that the dvd disc's are cheaply made and crack and shatter. I have gone through two of them. And my third is starting to crack too.

Perhaps the humor is enhanced based on the number of Sparks the viewer has?

The one hour Highbridge Hills course tour DVD is not in the category of event DVDs but still has solid production values for its intended purpose which is to provide an overview of Highbridge and individual hole tours of the first three courses from a designers' perspective.

Snap is available through AdrenalineDVD.com http://www.adrenalinedvd.com/osc/index.php?cPath=33 , and is the way disc golf videos should be going, IMO. This is a professional movie, with an award winning director. It's a ski movie for disc golfers. The camera quality is A1, though it should be mentioned that it is an advertisement for their disc the Whitler. Though, most DG DVDs are ads for the tournament they are covering, so... The 15 minute out-take of the freestyle is worth the $$.

"and is the way disc golf videos should be going, IMO."

I agree. Hopefully, disc golf tournaments will someday just be aired on television and we won't have to make dvds of the actual competition. Until then, I am going to shoot footage of the top pros when they come to my town and share it with as many people as I can.

I can't wait for the day when disc golf is aired on tv. I think the end goal would be ESPN or even a network (like ball golf), but I think the starting spot could work on its own network. This could work two ways in my mind.

1. A channel like CSTV (http://www.cstv.com/), where it is available through your cable provider's sports package along with CSTV, FSC, etc.

2. A system like Setanta Sports (http://na.setanta.com/) or on Setanta Sports. This is a live and on-demand system that requires a separate box and the signal is received via broadband. Right now it is predominantly soccer, but also features rugby and cricket. It has a subsription fee, but is gaining in popularity around the world.

Based on the cost of the boxes and subscription, I would think lobbying Setanta to one day air disc golf tournaments would be a more likely option than a disc golf dedicated system. I would think live coverage would be extremely difficult since Premiership games and other big soccer matches are on Saturdays and Sundays, but even airing the coverage a week or month later would be pretty sweet. It is probably a long way down the road, but I await the day I can turn on my tv and watch disc golf.

I am pessimistic disc golf will ever be suitable for TV coverage and videos will never match the quality and tension of ball golf on video. Why? Cost to capture the sport properly. It's already a huge investment to properly film ball golf. Disc golf will need more cameras and will have venues where it's virtually impossible to cover the shots.

The tension in BG is in the putting. In DG, putting should always be shown in slowmo to come close to the tension in BG. Driving is hard to see in BG so only the end of shots needs to be covered. In DG, drives and throws is where the visual excitement can be for spectators. But I have yet to see it properly captured to come anywhere close to what I can see standing there in person. Not that multiple cameras haven't tried. I'm not sure it's doable. And imagine trying to track the cool flex shot thru the woods which spectators can track visually with little problem but cameras have little chance.

This would be a huge technical leap forward but it may be the only way to properly display DG shots visually. That would be having some virtual reality 3D layout of the course where a disc golf "John Madden" can trace the route each shot makes down the fairway. The computer then generates the most realistic virtual flights for each throw down the fairway. This might have to be done for videos only unless the technology could be done almost in real time with maybe a 5-10 minute delay.

MSDGC 2006 is a great DVD especially being a 2 disc Set, but I would have to give it to the people who made the Skylands CLassic DVD. I was at that tourney watching and the DVD is just amazing. They had a deadline problem and the sound for the women's rounds was a little hard to listen to, but the video is amazing and Warwick is one of the most beautiful courses i've ever seen.

I follow the lead card of Barry Schultz, Avery Jenkins, Dave Feldberg, and Steve Brinster. Extreme editing and expert commentery by yours truly make it a true disc golf experience. This DVD runs over 1 hour and 20 minutes.....The Final Safari 9 DVD is almost finished and will be available soon as well....

The 2006 Brent Hambrick Memorial Open DVD
I enjoy filming Barry Schultz and was pleased to see him in a group that included Steve Brinster, Avery Jenkins and Dave Feldberg. See these guys shoot the whole 27 hole course and the final safari 9 with Steve Rico who jumped up from the THIRD card......It was 96 degrees with 'little to no' wind all day....grueling. The first DVD is 1 hour and 20 minutes (it is the lead card/final 27 holes of regulation), the second DVD is over an hour and is the safari 9. I added highlights from the awards ceremony and video outakes that include footage of the womens playoff round. When I do my EXTREME editing I get to study the styles of the world's best.....what a treat... I commentated the first disc knowing that there was very little dialouge in the group and limited gallery noise. The safari 9 DVD has an enthusiastic gallery so I limited my commentery to allow the gallery chatter/cheering/commentery a larger stage. Both dvds feature a lot of background and nature noises in an attempt to capture the mood of the event and give the viewer a feel for what it would be like to be there...(sweating profusely) As usual, I insert graphics at the appropriate places with hole and score stats....I am hard pressed to film events as I prefer playing them....enjoy....Among the DVDs I've produced and offer for sale, the 1st Players Cup ,2005, 2 DVDs (Entire Lead Card Final Round plus holes 5-18 of the second (of 3) round) , Climo Shoots the Gran Canyon, shot in February of 2006 in Brooksville Florida.....The CHAMP shooting 27 doubles holes of extreme terrain with a a crew that includes Brad Hammock, J-Bird, and Tony Gerling...(2 DVDs, 2 plus hours)<<<my personal favorite and that of my regulars, the Pro and Amateur legs of the Bowling Green Open 2006 (3 DVDs). The first DVD of the 2006 Brent Hambrick Memorial Open is available right now. The second DVD will ba available by the end of February. When I m done with the Hambrick project I will start/finish the lead card's final round of the Discraft Great Lakes Open, 2006.....stay tuned to CHANNEL Z ......
