If I had a vote, I would honestly vote for Barry. No matter what people say, this is a contest for the PLAYER of the year. Sportsmanship, although it sounds like it will, should not have anything to do with.
Barry is pretty much the clear choice in my mind with Avery in a distance second, followed by Kenny and then Schweb.
It has nothing to do with sportsmanship.
5 top 4's in MAJORS is better than 4 top 5's IMO

I'm glad you are basing your vote on a stat you feel is important to you rather than any personal feelings you have about Barry's sportsmanship (like I fear some voters are).

so barry is a bad sport?
The Majors have most of the best players, and IMO that should at least 75% of the vote.
sportmanship issues?

I was just refering to him not showing up at the awards banquet at the worlds for player of the year and not showing up for the awards at the worlds (and I've heard about many other cases of this, but since I was only at those two events and know for a fact that was the case, that is all I will name)

by the way I HAVE NO VOTE in this nor do i want this thread to turn nasty please....
i started this solely to let people see what was coming soon in a magazine arriving soon at your doorsteps and what they had to say....
i THOROUGHLY APOLOGIZE to anyone who would get upset about posting what they will be reading soon in their own home
i just wanted VOTERS to be sure to vote as last year several votes were tied or within a few votes according to what brian hoeniger said standing at the podium in augusta at the awards banquet...
then after the fact people came on here and whined about the results....sounds like most elections in the united states :p

Shwebby is definately the most fun to play with. Most top players are fun to be around when they are playing well or winning, but what about when they are not doing well? The fact is that Brian is one of the few top players who is not a drag to play with when he is not playing well. That speaks volumes about his character. This is not a knock on anyone in particular, just a testimonial for Brian.

A post I made on another thread (with a few changes to make numbers current)
No offense to Avery or his supporters and not trying to take away from his amazing year....
But if Barry doesn't win POY again I'll be shocked.
4 NT wins, 3 Super tour wins, USDGC champion and 2 other wins.
He has 37,000 plus in winnings this year.
5th at the worlds
Also, one of the stats no one ever thinks about but is huge for POY is the number of times the player wins 1,000 dollars or more. Barry 12, Avery 8.
Head to Head....
Barry 6 to 4 over Avery (however Avery beat Barry a lot when it mattered - Japan Open, Players Cup, Worlds just to name three of the four)
Money per event (roughly)
Barry - 1,305.00
Avery - 1,206.00
National Tour Series
Barry - 1st
Avery - 5th
Wins
Barry - 10
Avery - 5
I mean, I know Avery has had an amazing and breakout year....but the numbers are pretty dominating.
BUT, in avery's support....when it mattered (the majors) Avery was 3-1 against Barry.
In my honest opinion, the POY standings should go...
1. Barry
2. Avery
3. Anthon
4. Kenny
5. Schweb

You have a vote. Petition your state coordinator. They can use any number of ways to make their decision. Petition them or at least suggest who YOU'd like to win it. Everyone has a voice if they have a state coordinator. But then, they don't have to actually listen to you if they don't want.

Player of the Year should definitely take sportsmanship and behavior into account. This person is being selected as the gold standard for DG players (for the past year) and will be put up on that pedestal for the next season. IMO what transpires off the course (behavior, volunteering, etc.) is as important as what transpires on the course.
An interesting parallel would be Shawn Merriman trying to win the defensive MVP title in football. His behavior (broke the rules) cost him the title... even though his numbers were better than the eventual winner.

I agree, but most people dont get to see all the top players in every situation, they only end up hearing about what happens. Too much here say.
