Jerry Gotcher had a meeting with the state parks the other day, and it appears that Moraine state park will be making us a new bulletin board for the course, as well as adding more directional signs in the park.

The idea of concrete tees was also discussed, and with a little bit of work, should be a reality. Perhaps in time for the 2007 PFDO

I am pleased to announce there have been a lot of course improvements at Lakeview (Moraine) this week:

Hole 5....the Olive/vines growing in front of the white tee was trimmed back, affording a clear shot to the green.

Hole 6...numerous low branches were removed throughout the fairway. There are 3 trees and one stump flagged for removal (chainsaw will be required).

Hole 8...the fairway gap was widened (slightly) and the ceiling was raised.

Hole 9...one tree was removed and every tree on the fairway was pruned to remove low hanging branches. The newly-raised ceiling should provide a much better scoring distribution on this par 3 hole.

Hole 12...two flagged trees were removed from inside the gap and limb removal was conducted along the left side of the fairway. The dead pine tree located short-&-left of the B-pin green was pruned to a height of 6-7 feet. This will now afford golfers another option when approaching this green along the left side of the fairway (these limb cuttings need to be removed from the green).

Hole 14...a route has been cleared left of the large pine tree and the blue tee has been moved back approximately 30 feet (the photos below were taken from the new tee location). This left-side route is somewhat tighter than the original fairway gap on the right, however, it will give players another option to consider off the tee.

Hole 16...several small trees have been removed at the top of the hill, as well as briars, vines and ground cover. Many of the low pine branches were removed and there are plans to remove 2 or 3 more trees at the base of the slope (before the pines). Widening this landing zone will make a HUGE difference in how this hole plays overall. A chainsaw will be needed to remove these select trees.

Hole 17...three trees were removed from the gold tee fairway. The attached Before & After photos clearly show the improvements to this fairway.

Plans for the coming week include the chainsaw removal of flagged trees on holes 6, 11 and 16. Hole 11's gold tee will probably be located to the right of it's present location. J Gary has already flagged two trees for removal and once the tee is moved, all three pin placements will be visible from the gold blocks. In addition, the proposed tee location will provide better fairway options for both right and left handed players. The present gold tee on hole 11 has always produced one of the poorest scoring spreads on the course, thus, the planned improvements should significantly improve the overall numbers.

Additional modifications to the course will be the elimination of the OB rope on hole 1. The rope will be withdrawn away from hole 1 and moved closer toward hole 18's fairway. All the water on hole 1 will be considered casual.

I would like to thank the following people who have helped work on the course this week: Chris Deitzel, Mike Speaker, Dave Olcott, Chris Gotron (and his friend, Jason ?). The course has never looked better, but there are a small number of areas where we need to clear recently cut or fallen branches. If you visit Lakeview during the next week, clearing this debris from fairways and greens will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your assistance and I hope to see everyone at the Lakeview Course Championship. If rain or snow is forecast for Saturday, April 7, we will reschedule the event for Saturday, April 14)

Jerry

By the way, the Lakeview course is super dry in comparison to Knob Hill and Deer Lakes. Knob is soooo muddy at present, it's not much fun to play right now (imo).

By far THE BEST COURSE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it's getting better all the time. Concrete tees, benches, and new tee signs will hopefully get done this year also!
