but there is an interesting fact that is little known in the disc golf community, about the existence of a disc refered to as 'bender'. It was a 174 glo leopard that possessed the ability to turn at near right angles. amazing disc, he will be sorely missed.

I have been playing over a year, and my very first disc was a Champion TeeBird. To this day it is the one disc I have never taken out of the bag. I've experimented with alot of drivers since I've been playing, but the one that I always found to be the most consistent is the TeeBird. I dont know what I would do without this driver! The disc will not get me the distance like my Wraith, Orc, and Starfire, but it is certainly the most accurate driver that I can depend on for all situations. I can do everything imaginable with a TeeBird, and it always stays true. Whenever someone wants to learn how to play I always tell them to get a TeeBird as their driver, and if anyone is looking for a new driver then I always tell them to get a TeeBird. I simply cannot live without this disc and if I had to choose one driver it would be the TeeBird. It is everything you could want from a driver.

My final 4:

1. Z Storm: If I had to play with only one disc it would be this one...it's a good dog.

2. DX Beadless Aviar Putt & Approach: This disc just feels so good in the DX and it's dead straight.

3. Z XL: If I had to choose a driver that was to be the only driver I could use for the rest of my life, this is it. It also does what I want it to do.

4. Star Wraith: No disc has changed my game as dramatically as this disc. I think this disc has taken my game to the next level.

If I was always limited to only 4 discs when playing...these would be the 4.

As a long time Leopard thrower, and now a gateway thrower I would say that for shots that I used my Leopard I go for the Element... Sure its a midrange but it is just as fast and I can perform the same shots with it as I could the Leopard...

Now the TL... I like the TL as well but gateway just doesnt have that disc yet... I know though as they continue to grow they will fill more gaps for the common player and more people will see just how good their plastic is. They are right up there with Innova and Discraft. Plenty of room for everyone!

For best disc I would go with Roc, then Teebird, then Wizard

BS Old Mold Beast Gets my vote (Champ Beast X?)
Dunno why Barry thought a L mold would be better. To me it flies alot different than an Orc.
It was my first choice for a disc for the DV Memorial One Disc Challenge this year since I could toss it forehand and Back Hand and get similar results. (I know I ended up with the Monster X but I thought it would be windy...whatever I won anyway)
This BS Beast was my second driver I ever had and It still has a huge spot in my bag as a go to driver.

The Pro Starfire, while an excellent disc, begins to be very inconsistent after about 3 or 4 months of use. The pro plastic becomes beat and so its nothing better than roller. i know because I used to only throw Pro Starfires as my main driver for months. I switched to the Orc and havent looked back. It's the most consistent and can practically do everything a Starfire can but with a touch more of stability. I'm not really knocking the Starfire as I said it is an excellent disc but its use is limited.

Pro Starfires are too flippy and too nose angle dependent. i carry Pro Orcs for a few months on a pretty wooded course and then they become more like Roadrunners -- but for open long distance they are the BEST. i put several away when they were discontinued and now i try only to use them for open shots since their durability (like most Pro discs) isn't so great. maybe you had the first runs -- the second run of Pro Orcs weren't so bad durability wise ;)

I love a Champion Orc can't wait to try the star version but trying to hold off buying discs for a few more weeks. Although the more I throw the Surge the more it seems like a slightly longer Orc.
A disc that I almost talked myself out of buying that I am now considering buying a stack of them is the KC Whippet. I have only had it for a couple of weeks but it seems to have a lot of uses.

The APX isn't anywhere close to the Aviar BB, and it has a different nose than the Aviar P&P, so i must be missing the "near" exactness you speak of. I happen to prefer the APX swirl for my main putter.

Again, the Challenger would be the closest, minus the bead differences. :p

So , your saying the Wizard and the Chief are Not a rounded shouldered Putter with a fraction of a difference in the Cheek of the disc and the rim configuration?

Maybe the Magnet is closer to the Wizard then ?

Round Shouldered Putters.
Look close to the minor changes from the Flight plate , Cheek , Shoulder , Rim depth and Bead , if there is one. Some don't or are worn off.

I kinda know , I have ALL of these and have Thrown all of these at one time or another , including Tournaments.

Most have a Identical Flight path for putting. Just some are more stable in the beginning , than others.

It kinda started with the bluntness of the Puppy and the Super Puppy. Ever throw a Bullet or a Laser ?

The top shoulder is similar but that is where the similarities stop. The flightplate is thinner than an aviar but thickens up the closer it gets to the rim. Also the Wizard has a convexed wing not an angled bevel like the Aviar. Another thing is that the bead is not on the bottom of the disc like an Aviar but it is actually on the wing of the disc.

so if the simple fact that the top or "shoulder" of the disc is rounded means it is a copy then I guess you are right and the numerous innovations in the design of the wizard such as the wing, flightplate, and bead mean nothing.

Speaking of 1983, the best desert island disc would actually be Electric Ladyland. :)

The APX isn't anywhere close to the Aviar BB, and it has a different nose than the Aviar P&P, so i must be missing the "near" exactness you speak of. I happen to prefer the APX swirl for my main putter.

Again, the Challenger would be the closest, minus the bead differences. :p

I beg to differ. If the APX is not "nearly" the same as an Aviar P & A, then no disc has ever been copied in the history of disc golf!!!!

You have got to be kidding me....

All modern putter style discs are "copies" of the Aero/Aviar since these discs are the basis for all similar discs ever made since. Some are very nearly the same, the APX for one. Come on!!!

Then me thinks me must be blind. Before you even thought of playing disc i was putting with P&A's (just a guess based on PDGA #/rating). My index finger was very comfortable on the nose of the P&A which TO ME feels flatter(more square) than the Swirl, which i now putt with. Also looking at the two it's apparent TO ME that the Swirl's nose is a little sharper, or less square if you will. They are close, but not close enough to be called horseshoes or hand grenades. I did choose the Swirl over Dcraft's other putters b/c TO ME it flew MORE LIKE a P&A than the other Dcraft putters. :p

WHATS THE NEWEST DISC EVER

Aviar.

Most produced in different runs of plastic. CE, Champion Pro , DX , Pro-Line , Second Edition Candy , Taffy , X .....etc.

Most Coppied by other disc manufacturers. ( Even Whamo , Lightning, Gateway, Discraft , DGA , Ching , Latitude 64 , Dynamic Disc, etc.... )

Most used By Pros winning Big Money.

I have atleast 28 different run types of the Aviar Disc.

Ok whamo and Discraft basically copied the Aviar but saying the others did is stupid.

These were smaller versions of the 71c* , 42g , 50 , 70 mold and 40F mold golf disc's by Whamo.
Yes , I did win cash as a Pro in 1978 with these Dinosaurs !!!!! :cool:I was 18 at the time !!!! These were the best Disc Golf Discs out at the time !!!!!!

You may also want to ask someone about the Glow version of the 40 mold. ( Brand X ).

I still dig those old Glow Golf Discs. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

No ALLHyzers here !!!! :D

:D Maybe I should have said a ripped off idea from Innova ? Who was first Bia-tch ? :D Everything like the Aviar Type disc from others came later.

The Aviar is still the Original GO TO Putter of World Champions !!!! :D

You should not use a PDGA number as any measure of discing time.

I started playing in approximately 1978 in Tulsa when I was in grade school. I played pretty seriously when Aviars were drivers in the late 1980's..

I just started back this last year playing serious again.

I never said the APX was an EXACT COPY of an Aviar, but it is pretty close. Certainly in the same vein.

Call it "Aviar inspired" if you like.

You're right. That's why i said guess. Also, if that's the case, then you've been throwing P&A's longer than most. :D

That's also why i sent you a PM, introducing myself well before your reply above.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Know anything about adductor longus? Sure wish mine would heal.

...and yes, maybe "aviar inspired." :D

Bingo Matt. None of the molds he mentioned are exact copies/replicas. They are all different in their own way(s). Yeah all but the Challenger. :D:D
