Chuck, how is the SSA calculated. I ask because I played at an event and, out of curiosity, looked at the SSA. For this course (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/course_ratings_by_course.php?RatingCourseID=3055&sort_style=SSA&sort_ascending=0), it says the SSA for rd3 at HOTB was 49.91, when NOBODY shot below that. I am confused.

There are many rounds where the SSA will be lower than the lowest score shot on a course because it's the score a 1000 rated player would be expected to average. If you only have players with ratings under 1000 generating the SSA, this will happen regularly.

For example, a pool of Intermediate players and lower may never shoot a round that matches the SSA and yet the SSA can be calculated and ratings produced for everyone in that pool. That's how the system works.

McCoy is just one player in the calculation and his score is weighted the same as everyone else. He had a below average round relative to others so the ratings may look strange that no one had a round over 999. But Kevin shoots under 1000 maybe once every 5 or 6 rounds.
