Are there any clubs out there that do not get NEW bag~tags every year? Provided they are not lost, etc...why not have something more permanent for, say, 2-3 years, or more(?). If more folks want them than previously thought, then new ones (beginning with the largest #'d tag +1 & so on) could be made and sold.

Realizing this is a (possible) fundraiser for some clubs...and the novelty of new tags is intriguing...but some folks get tired of shelling out the cash every year.

Thoughts, comments?

So Cal gives all members new bag tags each year as a perk of membership so our members don't shell out additional cash for bag tags. They do however have to shell out cash to renew each year.

The problem is the durability of the tags. Even the metal ones from JJ that we used in Tulsa start to wear of after a years worth of heavy play. They might make it two years but not past that.

How about leather ones? The metal ones clanged too much, IMHO.

I agree, they made a lot of noise, unless the player kept them hidden away. Leathe may be a real option.

Hey, Doc, please vote below.

Up here at Wickham Park in CT we have a lifetime buy-in for our tag program. We only started in 2006 but have ~86 tags sold, which meant that after our original order of 50 we had to make another order for 51-100. I think it's an extremely good way to encourage people to support your club if they know they dont have to shell out cash every year.

Great idea!, but are your actual tags that durable - for a lifetime??

We had our bag tags for two years. A compromise approach of less yearly cost, but changed to a new style after two years. Next year, I would like to have a leather style with some colored stamp.

We just did Bag Tags in the Toledo area for the first time this year. I believe the total cost was somewhere under $5.00 and the selling price was $10.00... 100 tags were sold. We made them by purchasing little wooden discs from a hobby shop, having them laquered and then the number was burned into the wood. Really worked well, and I haven't seen even one with a good deal of wear and tear.

Helped that a local needed a community service credit for a class and did the work for us, really awesome. Hopefully we can be lucky enough to get something as good next year, it was the biggest fund raiser we've ever done in the area.

Varnish and then burned. That sounds cool. I have been looking for an option. Plastic with an oval hole breaks too easy. We did our first tags as a fundraiser @ $10. that ran 1 year. Next we gave them with $10 membership. http://transfertown.com/albums/transpix/dogday.thumb.jpg

These are the ones that broke too easily? They are nice looking.

Anybody else have pictures of their tags? And info on where they got them?
Any leather tags? That sounds like an interesting idea...

This past year we used cattle ear tags. Cheap and functional, but we'd like to do something a little nicer for the upcoming season.

They are very nice. Nice Looking and a great shape and size. The weak spot is the top of hole. You know how some golfers THROW thier gear in the trunk and all. We gave them out with a leather lanyard, like a little belt. It was hard to operate and soon fell away. Some guys put them on a key ring. That breaks them. Some put them on a full size Caribeaner. That breaks them. I have had good luck with a mini caribeaner

West Monroe, LA. Great Club. If you are a member and hit an ace in one of thier big tournaments, you also get the weekly progressive pot with the tourney pot. It happened to one of the hard working / playing TD's at LA States.

We ( the river city flyers St Louis Disc Golf Club) are on our 7th year of tags, and we have learned a lot from our mistakes. It is never perfect but what we do now is by far the best it has been.

Bag tags are a way to show you are a current member of our club and come with the club membership. ( along with a disc) for $20 a year. You also have to be a club member to be eligible for ace pool.
We allow any player that has never been a club member to sign up for the club and play in the event. this is a one time only thing and works well.
A guy can play in the event for $15 or join the club for $20 and get a disc and tag, its a no brainer.
we exclude their entry fee from the payout that day!

In order to keep players from getting a really good tag and then leaving it at home( convieniantly), you have to have your tag in order to be eligible for ace pool. If you dont have it with you, then you have to pay $5 for another one or miss the chance for ace pool.

I would strongly suggest including bag tags with club memberships and not seperating them.

I have seen a trend in cities that do not include bag tags with the membership.
The trend is decension and lots of controversy.
The best way to run a bag tag is if EVERYONE in the club has them. Anything short of this and its like segragation, it didnt work for schools and doesnt work that well for bag tags.

We have our club championships in mid october and thats when you get your new tag for the up coming season.
We all throw in our tags from the current year and they are given out according to what place you finish along with your new tag to start the season.

The bag tag is one of the single biggest reason our club went from 40 in 2000 to near 300 in 2006.
We will easily get to over 400 this year and maybe 500 ( we plan on several membership drives early in the season)!

If someone wants a set of bag tag rules or would like to get custom stamped tags and discs for thier club contact Justin Bunnell at the Shop 314 487 5204 or email me at david@gdstour.com

Does anyone know were you can order leather tags? We have used the metal ones for the last couple of years and want to try something different.
