Well we ran the bead less Wizard today.
It feels so sweeet in your hand as the bottom non bead is so smoooth, the disc comes out of your hand very clean.
The stability of the discs is not exactly what we were looking for as it is not "UNderstable" but more DEAD STRAIGHT STABLE.
It is a little faster than the Wizard and it fades more like a broken in Wizard right out of the box. It also fades at a differnt point when thrown very hard off the tee.
For the most part there is not much difference than the Wizard for shots less than 50 feet except it doesnt have the bead.
the warlock will become a turnover disc a lot easier than a Wizard because it does not have the bead.
We are going to call this disc the Warlock not the Magic and will work on the Magic pretty soon and it will be understable for sure.
There are a few things we can do to make the Magic understable and kepp all 3 feeling the same in your hand. This disc ( The Warlock) feels so sweet and flies so true I would hate to not release it just because it isnt understable.
I would think that the 3 together, Wizard, Warlock and Magic will compliment each other nicely!
We are waiting until after the 1st of the year to get our new discs PDGA approved!!

I would love to try the beadless. The original wizzard has won me a lot of $$ in matches the past year. ;)

Dave, since you've got a chance to try it out, what's it like to throw with a slight annie from 60+? That's normally how I chose to run at putts of that length, and I used a pretty beat up SS for those shots. I chose this disc over my normal putter mainly because I don't have to throw the SS very hard to get it to hold the line to the basket. Can the warlock get the distance and line of a beat up wizard without throwing it super hard?

Chirs, that throw is probaly what its best for, it has sligtly more glide and is easy to turn over out of the hand,, It just doesnt flip so easy from a hyzer realease, ( at leats not when new)
I need to get one broken it fast to see how it works then..
Veagan, The Wizard and the Warlock are bot pretty dang good from 10m already :D:D:D

Gongrats on the new disc. The Wizard is a great disc to build from. I like the proto-type plastic and those super soft with the dippy top. Sweet! Looking forward to trying the Warlock.

The first runs were all SUPER Glow and a medium/firm.
Not sure when we will be running the production runs.
Most likely early next week.
They should be available in all flexibilities including prototype style runs ( chalky) as well.
I just wanted to make sure the o mold was roking welll and it was.
We played with them a bit today in Centralia, they are pretty close to a wizard for putting but like I said without the bead.
I would but the flight and feel close to a Challenger, but I havent felt any challnegrs this firm.
We could try for a softer domier run that could make them flip a bit once we get them up and running in production.
I saw a really cool warlock image last night at this bar but my camera phone wouldnt work in the lihting.
I am going back to take a photo for agood starting point, but will still have an art contest for the Warlock and the Rage!

Thanks Dave!
I'm going to keep trying to beat up my SuperSoft Wizard to the point that it will turnover, but having the less-stable Warlock, and the understable Magic (or is it Mage?) to use as well sounds awesome. Now there definitely isn't a shot that a Gateway putter can't handle...the triple-threat!
Will you be running the Warlock and/or Magic in all your plastics, or just S ?

The warlock will be ran in the same materials as the Wizard including E.
We wont be building the mold for the Magic until about february.
We have 25 discs now total from the Gateway-Quest line and some still need to get prototyped and in production.
After a few days with T the Warlocks and getting some beat up ( intentionally), they CAN become understable a lot sooner than a Wizard will.
Some runs of Wizard never want to flip regardles of how mcuh they get beat up.

I got out today and threw the soft and E Warlocks. After cooling all night what I thought were SS are more Soft than super, but still really tacky and the "S" are pretty flat.
Both the Soft and the E are noticeably less overstable then the 1st run of medium Glow.
They seem to fly a "TAD" bit faster then a wizard and worked really well for my slight nose up putts and 60-80 foot runs at the basket.
After about 30 or so drives, lay ups and putts I couldnt even tell in the release that I wasnt throwing a Wizard.
Because of the "no Bead" I think players will feel as though the Warlock has a shallower rim, but the rim depth is actually the exact same.
My gueess is the convex wing and bead of the Wizard makes your fingers travel farther to the flight plate, so in essence the Warlock is a tiny bit shallower or at least they feel that way in your hand.
If my orignal goal was to make a beadless wizard that flies pretty much the same as the beaded Wizard, I would say it was a great job.
But I was actually trying to make the Magic which was supposed to be more understable, but I'm POSITIVE the Warlock ( at least in the "S") will break in as the botton gets some wear and tear on them, to become understable for a nice turnover putter.
We might not not need the magic as much as I thought now that I have thrown the E and the Softer ones.
OK time for the ART CONTEST FOR THE WARLOCK THREAD!!!

I messed around a bit with warlocks today, and was very pleased with the results. I got some of the 175 glow, and compared them against my normal beat in soft 175 as well as some new 175 glow wizards. When throwing putts with a bit of hyzer from 30-35, the warlock flew very similar to my beat in wizard. They faded much later than my new glow wizards (no real surprise there).
Where they really made their presence known was in the long putt/approach game. I nailed quite a few 50+ footers today by just throwing level with a little snap. If I missed, they just stopped 15 ft past with very minimal fade. They fly great slightly nose up in this range. The only way I'd take such an aggressive shot with the wizard is to throw some sort of S line at it, or use my beat supersoft.
I then took some 70-80 ft approach shots in my yard where I had the basket off to the right, and needed 30 or so feet of left to right action to get to the pin. It took no power at all to get them to fly on a great line to the basket. Just a touch of annie on the throw with 10 ft of elevation; hit the chains twice with some other very nice looking shots. If I were to throw a wizard on that same line, I'd worry about putting too much power on it in order for it to hold the turnover.
I agree they're a bit faster than the wizard; I was shooting some 125-150 ft shots from up the street into my front yard (granted, its a bit downhill), but was overshooting the basket by 30-40 ft. The warlock would hold a hyzer angle, but would just keep going straight before cutting.
I've got one of my warlocks beating up kinda quick (I was throwing some high knife hyzers over the house, and caught some shingle; that may be the quickest way to break in base plastic I've ever seen), so I'll report back when it starts to turnover.
Oh, and Dave, the plastic you ran the E Warlocks in is money. One of those knife hyzers I through was 40-45 ft in the air, and landed on it's nose in the road. Not even a rash. That stuff is indestructible.
Did I leave some discs in your car yesterday?

As I'm not what one would call artistically inclined, I just thought I'd throw something out there...
Have you ever considered working with local high schools, offering schools plastic and/or a basket or two in exchange for offering the local students a chance to get their artwork on a disc? It would represent a great way to get disc golf introduced into local schools and, as you work a lot with the users of your plastic, a great chance to get it in more peoples hands. We have a youth minister here that is doing great work in introducing disc golf to the local high schools through both working with the schools in adding disc golf courses to parks and cross country courses and teaching it during phys-ed for a few week period.
The business man in me sees 2 baskets at a school as something that would introduce maybe 30 people per year to disc golf that might not ever try it. Figure of those 30 people, 5 decide to purchase gateway discs, and each purchases 4 discs, that's 20 discs per year that you might not have sold. If the profit were $3 per disc(which I suspect is a high estimate), it'd only take 8 years to cover the cost of a basket. If schools saw students using them, they might be likely to purchase baskets, which could lead to interscholastic competition.

Pat the art contest for through the schools is a great Idea, Bot at the high school and College level.
I love to partner up and If the art dpeartment can help the phys ed that would be awesoem.
EVERY single school from middle to high school in the ST Louis area plays disc golf at least one day out of the year and most for several.
We have 2 disc golf courses on middle schools and one at a private high school already.
There are several clloeges in the area with disc golf clubs and a few are working on installing disc golf courses on Campus.
Right now there are 18 disc golf courses in the St louis Television market and there will be 25 by mid summer.
We are launching a marketing campaign towards the local schools for our products, tying in with the art departments is such a great idea!
Thanks Pat!
