Has anyone ever thought about putting a temp course up and hosting a disc golf tournament at Enchanted Rock State Park in Texas? You could shoot some mean shots off that big lump of rock!!!! http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/enchanted_rock/media/images/eroc.jpg

Looks pretty cool. It's a State Park? Beer restrictions? Here in the Panhandle, we often daydream of playing Disc Golf out at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Incredible views and some very dramatic elevation changes. We've taken our portables out there before, but with the restrictions on alchohol, it's hard to get many regular players out there.

It is a state park and alcohol is prohibited. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and the place was packed with hikers. It would be fun as the terrain would provide some interesting and challenging holes. I'm not sure if you could orchestrate the logistics though...being a state park. To many random hikers.....

It would be nice to see a rotating tournament series that visited state parks such as this one and set up and hosted a one day event each year. I wonder if you could set something up with the tpwc so they knew way in advance and would be more responsive.

I would love to play somewhere like Bastrop State Park through the lost pines:

I have dreamed many times of a tournament at Enchanted Rock.

Last time we were there, we threw a pretty big stack of discs off the top towards the pond (betting to see who could make it in that pond!)

We did that every year at San Saba (from the gazebo to the pond). There are many texas parks that would be great for Disc Golf, how many players would pay the daily (or annual) fee for the opportunity to play ?

It isn't that much different than other pay-to-play locations...Circle-R, Moody's, Snow Farm, Spring Valley, etc....

The logistics of hosting a tournament at E-Rock would be almost insurmountable. I have first-hand knowledge...

What WOULD be entirely possible however is to investigate some of the neighboring private ranch facilities. There are a number of them within eye-shot of E-Rock. I think about 3 miles north on 965 (toward Llano) is a private campground facility and ranch. Who knows? I'm thinking that a private owner might be easier to establish a rapport with than the State government.

E-Rock fills to capacity almost every single weekend. Once they've let x-number of cars through per day, they simply shut the gates and you will have to wait for at least 4-5 hours before they consider opening it again.

We would have to approach the TPWD about parks that are not being used to capacity.
