Hey, I did something fun. I think it is fun anyway.

It has really been pissing me off getting home when it is nearly dark. I usually have a lot of energy and want to do SOMETHING before dark. A lot of times I go to the field and throw discs with Brick (my Bullmastiff). Since it is already dark when I get home, I have not even been able to do that. So, I got some sinker lights.

http://www.lindyfishingtackle.com/tackleshop/customer/product.php?productid=17749

and taped them to the top three of my midranges and went to the soccer field. Talk about cool!!!! It looks like a flying saucer when it flies, and it is easier to find your disc in the dark!!! So, I threw for an hour or so, it was great!!!! People hanging out at the soccer fields were freaked out, they could not figure out what I was doing

Anyway, the darn things could not be turned off. The plunger mechanism was stuck or did not work.

Does anyone know a good way to get these lights to click on and off? Or an alternative light?

There are twist on~off ones...and click on~off ones. The latter are much easier to operated when it is 'on' the disc. Just use your thumbnail. Also, RED is the best & brightest color to locate in the dark. Personally, I prefer to have my light underneath the disc (and perfectly centered) - making a translucent disc mandatory.

You mean bobber lights - right? These things are the BEST for night discin! Just pull on the bulb part and it should pop off, takes a little effort sometimes. I have had a set of four of these for 3 years now and they are still working great - easily last for 25 hours or more. I found that the yellow ones are by far the brightest. Tape them under a Z or Champ disc and the whole flight plate lights up and half of the inner rim where the light is shining. You get a cool offset rotation of the lighting as the disc spins through the air. Use clear paking tape, and you'll never have any problem finding discs that land in any orientation.

Not exactly true.

I have seen these bobber lights fly right off of a disc both in mid-flight and on impact.

And it is not a good feeling when you see that light go in a different direction than your shot.

And I have found that the clear duct-tape is the best for keeping the suckers on.

I have also seen a guy here in Tulsa put a piece of velcro on the top of the disc and attach one of those "I can't find my keys" LED lights. I affects the flight more, but you can switch discs way more.

Are the yellow ones new? The last time I bought these, there were only three color options: green, orange and red. The green and orange ones were much dimmer and difficult to see, and the red ones were, by far, the brightest and easiest to locate.

I have never seen yellow bobber lights either....

....I have seen the normal glow sticks of course, but not the bobbers.

Brightest color depends A LOT on what color disc you use - absorbtion of color rays, color spectrum and all.

I use only orange discs and YELLOW mini bobber lights and they are bright as HELL! WAAAAAAAAAY brighter than red, and yes green is VERY dull. The yellow are not new, I've had some for years. You have to buy them at a sportig goods store with a lot of fishing tackle. I use the "Lucky Jack" brand. They're about $1.50 when you find them on sale - sure beats the disc golf websites and vendors that are selling "Nite Flight Lites" made by Lindy (fishing equipment) for $3 or more.

It's CLEAR tape - load it on man! Plus, at night condensation tends to form on disc plastic. Make sure your disc is DRY before taping.

3M makes outsatnding products - everything they sell is top quality. Get some really sticky 3M packing tape, not the cheap stuff. I just put two strips on in an X across the light. I also 'roll' the light into the tape so there is no air space under the tape that can lead to peeling off.

In Austin I get the "Lucky Jack" brand at Academy for $2.24. The green ones are not as bright and don't seem to last as long as the red. I also heard Play it Again Sports has a different brand that are real bright.
We use battery light sticks and blinking lights on the baskets. Way Fun! :D

I had the Nite Flight brand and they were impossible to turn back off. They simply self-destructed when you tried to pull the cap back out to turn off the bulb.

I played night golf with some guys and used the other guys lights. He said he got them at Academy. They turned off and on fine....nice "click" with a fingernail.

The Nite Flites are one time use, or just about.... or is this some kind of freak thing????

Oh SHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTEEEEE!!!!!

I was pulling on the wrong part of the bulb. I thought the thing pulled out on the seam, not the base of the bulb!!!!!

I see on the Lucky Jack instructions that the bulb itself pops out!!!! Crap!!!!! I destroyed three lights because I did not understand the instructions!!!!

I use this brand:

http://outdoors-magazine.com/IMG/jpg/bobberlight.jpg

They are $3.49 each at my local Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops stores, which are the outdoor chain stores. Unfortunately, the local mom 'n' pop outdoor stores don't carry these replacement light batteries where I live.

Last year Walmart had them and we were told that they quit carring it because of theft. Pretty bad karma stealing disc lights. :( Dumb A Holes.

I get mine at walmart or from gotta go gotta throw. I use automotive goop to attach them. Once you get an edge of the goop peeled up, you can use pliers and remove all of it. I put them on come the end of august and keep them on through may/june and have never once had the light get knocked off when it hits a tree, and we play a tight wooded course on moonless nights without flashlights on the tee. I've hit trees 3 feet from the tee pad with a full pull and not even a hint of the light breakng free.

That sounds worthy of trying...goop!

Dec 06 2006, 09:52 PM
Yea the goop sounds good. I keep my discs clean so just a few inches of cheap electric tape works great with no incidents. I pull the tape off after a round and stick it back together and save it for another time. It works for the life of the bulb (several months)(the wal-mart ones). I can loan a light to anyone and it will not stick to thier dirty discs, even after trying to clean with a towel.

I made a 265' ace in pitch black with a Lit Roc. It was 1:27 AM, Thanksgiving Day, 2 years ago. I couldn't see the basket but I saw the shadow of the tree next to it and aimed right of the tree.

That is exactly the stuff. My tube was red, but yeah, "Automotive Goop".

I subscribe to the camp that all goops are created equal, and my friend uses another good with equal success, but he doesn't throw as hard (read care free) as I do when we're night discing. I like to believe that you don't get lucky if you don't take risks.....

Okay, now I understand my confusion. I found a very old yellow bobber light in my car yesterday, and these yellow lights have an orange cap on them - the plastic part at the top. But the light they produce is definitely yellow. And that color, as well as the green are clearly inferior to the red. Take away any effects from the disc and just going by the brightness of the LED, the green and yellow are much dimmer and weakly lit. In the night, the red sticks out as bright as day in comparison. In fact, we threw away all the green and yellow ones because they sucked so much. (Except for the old yellow one I found in the bottom of my trunk :D)
