Quick question-
If a certified official doesn't renew by Jan. 1st, will they have to retake the test?
Is there any lag time?

No recertification required until the Rules & Competition Committees recommend that enough changes have been made to make it necessary. Hasn't happened for quite a while. I'd be surprised if we ever have such a rules overhaul at one time that would ever require it. Too much disruption with the number of events we have sanctioned now.

Smitty,
You should be ok as long you pay your dues early in the year (Jan-Mar). We (KCFDC) typically send in our bundle after our Ice Bowl in Late January. There's a bit of a grace period there....a lot of peeps won't pay their dues until the tourney season starts, which around here as you know isn't really until April.

I think the Rules Committee discussed it with the BoD the last time, and we decided not to do it (this would be more under the RC's purview, ultimately decided by the BoD, but the CC wouldn't make the call on this, unless there's a change in policy) Retesting is a bit more of a chore now, with so many officials (and I'm not complaining, it's a good problem to have..wish we had more officials). We've been talking about developing an online version of the test at some point (more in the brainstorming phase at this point), I think if we had that, it would make retesting less of a chore, and we'd go ahead and retest on the next update, since we haven't retested since the 1997 update.
