What are your top ten Texas courses? I have limited exposure to anything north of Austin, and am just curious what courses you put in your top ten. Mine, in ascending proximity to my hometown:
Live Oak Park, Ingleside
West Guth, Corpus Christi
Veteran's Memorial, Beeville
Riverside DGC, Victoria
City Park, Live Oak
Circ Hill DGC, Wimberley
Rolling Meadow DGC, Wimberley
Twin Parks, Dripping Springs
Williamson County, Leander
Cameron East, Waco
Like I said, I haven't made it out much (esp. Houston/DFW), but want to know where to go when I get the time.

This list would be easier to produce if someone started doing PDGA Course Evaluations in Texas, the state with the most courses. So far, only four have been done and two are now gone from the San Saba site.

My top ten:
Cameron East (still better than WilCo IMO)
WilCo (need to play a couple more times before it passes the bEast)
Tom Bass Tourney (wish it was permanent)
Live Oak (only wish it was finished and had individually defined courses)
Circle R Hill (I appreciate this course more now after Teams - 2nd time I've played it)
Circle R Meadow (the most scenic on this list...when the waterfall is running)
Tom Bass Wilmont (still the best everyday course in Houston)
Lindsey Park Blue (underplayed gem)
Veteran's (especially in the 24-hole layout)
Victoria (on the list only because it's a relic from pre-DX days and still relevant)
If I ever get to play Cedar Hill or Zboaz, I'm sure this list will change...

I am working on north and west Texas courses....hope to have at least Lubbock, Sweetwater, Big Spring, and San Angelo done next year. I have wanted to do Live Oak sometime, but its hard to decide which holes to do, how to divide the course into 2, etc. I will be in Houston for Christmas...may try to do a few down there if time/family allows. Who would I talk to about Tom Bass and Galvaston?

State Coordinators are in charge of the program, either doing the evals themselves or recruiting evaluators.

Jerry, try getting ahold of Nez or ChingLizard (Larry Kruse) on the HFDS website (http://www.hfds.org) about reviewing the Bass courses. As for Hitchcock (ie, Galveston), Jake Walsdorf is the primary contact there -- use the HFDS board to get ahold of him too, although I think changes are coming for it with the new South course getting approval from the county.
I agree about doing Live Oak....they need to hurry and get in all the holes and divide them up into everyday courses.

I would prefer to have 2-3 from each geographical region so they can compare notes before submitting evaluations. The biggest interest so far has been from west Texas. A couple from Houston, Austin, or Galveston would be nice.

...funny how the "Top 10 Worst" thread has more than twice the posts as this one...hrmm...
In the interest of increasing the number of posts about stuff we like, here you go in no particular order:
1. Beast - Waco
2. Meadow/Hill - Wimberley
3. Live Oak (minus the first 9, of course it's probably underwater)
4. Moody's - Red Rock
5. Beaver - Cedar Hill
6. Wilco - Austin (sorry, what suburb is that? :o)
7. Tom Bass (tourney setup) - Houston
8. Pease Park - Austin
9. Z-Boaz - Ft. Worth
10. Parkshire - Dripping Springs
My picks are based on a combination of challenge, beauty, and, for the most part, a lack of pitch-and-putt style of play.
It's worth noting that I still have yet to play a handful of Texas' courses and besides, most people won't even see this because they will be on that other thread whining...

ke'Ohana is a fairy tale . It only exists in the minds and hearts of those fortunate enough to be on SOMEBODY'S good graces. :D:p  :D
Honestly , my belief is that the anonimity of this facility is simply priming the proverbial pump for a huge turn out when this place becomes available to play . Makes the investment look worth while the day the doors open.

Regarding ke'Ohana:
Greg (DocB), i hear you completely. even as a designer i go onto the property when invited. coming from the DG world, i can share your sense of irony in thesituation. but as Parcells says "it is what it is". perhaps at some point more of us will get to see it in person. that would be cool for us.
Hopefully one day......
Moody's is awesome, no doubt. I haven't seen it in years though. Last time i was there it was only a year old and very rough around the edges. I bet it's really nice now.
ke'Ohana is about beauty, natural and man-made beauty. Think of shots being thrown over and around waterfalls, and along a sea wall, and real island greens (like #17 at Sawgrass on the PGA tour)
It does sound like a fairytale.

i wouldnt be surprised if that hole is also the most critcized, with the island pin being 1150 from the tee. it is theoretically possible to get a birdie 4, but you'll to have a flawless teeshot followed by a boomer in the field followed by an accurate up. anything less than three in a row will yield at best a par 5.
also, why put an island green at hte end of a par 5? those are traditionally used for par 3's. there was a design consideration involved here, as the pond was pretty much where it was. One of the overall goals was to show off the entire property, another was to use the exisitng contours and shapes of the land as God offered them to us. These consideration, and others, ultimately made breaking this one into two seperate holes very near impossible. this aspect was discussed from many angles.
the course might be too hard, dont really know yet. not cheap or lucky or cheesy. just too hard. especially for us who think it's only a great if ya shoot like 8 down or something. extensive efforts were made to follow published course design guidelines and standards, so i guess in some ways we are pushing the design limits to see if we can add to the growing list of true "championship" courses.
btw, ke'Ohana is not complete, so including it in a list is perhaps premature. then again, if you played it theres no reason you cant include it i guess. there's prolly merit to both ways of looking at it.
here's my Top Ten, in no particular order:
Tom Bass complex (pick any of the 2 regular or 3 states layouts, they all rock. i'd have a hard time to pick between the Tourney and the Wilmont)
Z Boas
Audubon
Moody's
Circle R (both courses make the list, but only one entry. if i could only play one, i would play the Meadow)
Pease Park
Waco (again, both courses could make it. i'd choose the Beast if i had to)

The only way to impower a person who has a secret and won't tell, is through your own curiousity. If you don't care and don't pay any mind to this place, than you can just be happy with playing all the other new courses that are going in pretty soon. When people stop asking about this place and finally forget its even being built, they'll end up letting the cat out of the bag on their own. This is the third time I've heard about this place and I've forgotten about it both times before. You can only show the preview to a movie so many times before you have to pick a release date.

From the little info I have gathered I have come to one conclusion.... Ke'Ohana is probably going to be the standard by which disc golf courses are measured in the future. As pat stated in his above quote, it is probably too hard. This will assist the evolution of disc golf for many years to come!Ke'Ohana- breeding better disc golfers since 200?.......
