The 6th Annual LA Open will be held on December 2 and 3 in Baton Rouge Louisiana. It will be a PDGA B Tier this year, bringing back the reason this tournament was started - to get the PDGA back to the South! Will Timmons and Sky South West will be TD'ing this event, and with the help of the BRDGA members, and help from the SN Community, and BREC (the Baton Rouge Parks Department) this should be one heck of a tournament.
Being a TD for 9 other tournaments in the BR area this year, and the TD for the 2003 Pro SNDGC, I'm ready to step up and make the PDGA and the SN proud by running a finetuned, well paying tournament, with lots of extras for all of the players!

Entry Fees are as follows -
Open Pro and Pro Masters: $72
Grand Master: $62
Pro Women: $62
Pro Master Women: $62
Advanced: $42
Intermediate Master: $42
Intermediate Men: $32
Intermediate Women: $32
Novice: $20
Junior: $20
Non PDGA Members in the PRO divisions must pay an additional $5 temp member fee.
Amateur Players that are NOT PDGA members will have their PDGA fee subtracted from their entry fee.
Also From Entry Fee
$2 goes to SN
$3 goes to PDGA
Sponsor Money covers: Plaques, Players Packs, Added Money to Pro Purses, and Skins.

I'm working on a Pre Registration place, and a host hotel right now. We will have Hooters Wings for lunch on Saturday, and I'm working on Live Music and Louisiana Cooking at a Players Party on Saturday Night at one of the Parks. Putting competition and a Fly Mart will also be available at the Players Party.

For more information, and tournament details check the sndg.org website or get in touch with Will Timmons at skysouthwest@cox.net

how far from shreveport?

Nov 04 2006, 07:44 PM
It's about 340 miles from Shreveport, takes about 5 1/2 hours.
I'm sure a group from the Port of Shreves will be making the trek down this way for this one.
I've e-mailed Marshall Street Disc Golf about handling the pre registration for this event for me. I'll post when we get something worked out.
I would like to thank my boy Tex for his gracious sponsorship of $250.
There will be a raffle for multiple merchandise items - some Items will be CFR Factory Seccond Rocs - a DGA Mach Lite Basket - CFR Tournament Stamped Discs - And even More Items will all be raffled off!
We will also be having a $1 a throw Basket Toss to win an Innova Sport Basket. It's $1 a throw (as many throws as you want) and the 6 closest FLAGS from Saturday, and the 6 closest FLAGS from Sunday will each get one throw at the end of the tournament to take the basket home. Closest gets it!!

More Later!

Hey Will,

What can you post about Scotlandville Parkway Park?

Nov 04 2006, 10:26 PM
It is a HUGE basically empty park (bad reputation) just off of I-110 North past Airline. (3 exits before the Greenwood Exit if that helps) If you have ever gone to the BR Airport, it is the gigantic park on the right as you exit. I've been trying for over 3 years now to get BREC to install perminant baskets, so we use it with portable baskets for 2 or 3 tournaments a year to show them how much use it could get, but they won't listen.

It is not as long as Highland, but the oranges are 5501', and the golds are 7556', but there are many more trees and low shots. The thing that makes this course difficult is the amount of OB's. All of the holes but one (a 500' orange tee shot from the open into the woods) have some sort of OB.

Distances:
The Oranges - <300' - 9 holes / 300-400' - 6 holes / >400' - 3 holes
The Golds - <300' - 4 holes / 300-400' - 7 holes / >400' - 7 holes

OBs and Hazards of Scottlandville Parkway Park

- All concrete is OB (including park benches) Most holes in or over the water is OB, and in or over the walking path is as well. The only holes that it doesnt apply to: 6, 7, 10, & 18. They will be marked for the tournament (It is when throwing over the hazard.)

1) Creek on the left of the fairway and around the back of the basket Mando Tree from Yellow Tee
2) In and over water on the Left, and the sidewalk and over behind the basket, and park bench concrete.
3) The creek runs around the back of the basket. In and over the water is OB.
4) In and over the water on the left, and in or over the sidewalk on the right is OB.
5) In or over the water on the left is OB. Runs along the whole side of the ditch. Sidewalk behind basket.
6) ONLY on the sidewalk is OB, and in H2O (Drainage ditch is NOT OB)
7) ISLAND HOLE must land in grass (park benchs in Island are NOT OB) from tee, or re-tee from next tee (Y>O>B)
8) Sidewalk and over on left, and park bench islands are OB.
9) Fence on left, and in or over sidewalk on right is OB. Behind basket is ugly and can hold H20.
10) ONLY in water is OB, and in or over the sidewalk on the right, and the bridge is OB.
11) In or over water on the right, and in or over sidewalk on the left is OB. Water is behind basket as well.
12) In or over sidewalk on left, small lake in front of basket, and in or over h2o behind basket.
13) In or over sidewalk on the left, and curves around to the right, behind the basket.
14) No real OBs just HURL that disc!
15) Over the fence on the right, and in or over the sidewalk on the left. Mando to the Left of tree. No going over fence
16) In or over the sidewalk on the right, the bridge, and under it, is OB. **Basket is far back and right this year, by path
17) In or over the water on the left and behind is OB.
18) Only in the water, in or over the road, the road and sidewalk behind the basket and bridges.
LOOK ON THE TEE SIGNS FOR MORE INFORMATION ON OBS AND NEXT TEE DIRECTIONS.

Probably a little bit of info over kill - but ask and you shall receive!
Good to hear from you Andi - Hope to see you here in December!

Oh Yea - Pre Registration WILL be set up through MSDG!
Thanks to Steven and all the folks at Marshall Street for their help. There is no fee for pre-registering through them so let me know if you will be here!

It is a HUGE basically empty park (bad reputation)

Maybe be a huge empty park but still a fun one to play. All 3 of these courses are sweet.

Nov 09 2006, 11:44 AM
Tournament Stamped Discs are in! LA State Seal Redone.
CFR Sponsor Discs - Glo Chmp Orcs, Glo Chmp T-Birds (not tl's), Star Rhynos, and Star Skeeters. (Fly really nice!)
Champ Discs - Beasts, Valkyries, Dyed Sidewinder
Pro Discs - Wraith
Star Discs - Tee-Bird, Wraith
DX Aviar, Roc, and Wraith are for the players packs.

We are still looking for a hotel that is as close to $50/night as possible.
We have the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation working on this, and I'll hear back from the BRASF about this early next week. Lookiing at a Days Inn that is kinda between the courses

I do need to ask for people to bring as many TOP BASKETS for Scottlandville and the extra 9 at Highland as possible. need 18 total. Being a PDGA B Tier Tournament, I want to make sure we have as many really good uniform baskets set up as possible. Let me know if you have one you can bring, and what type it is.

I expect to hear back from BREC about the players party. Looks like the music I wanted to ask to play won't be available, but I do plan on getting people to cook, having a big TV there for the SEC Chmp Game, maybe a DJ spinning music, maybe a mini golf course set up on the inside 7 at Greenwood? Glo Mini Golf? Poker Tournament? Putting and Driving Compitition, Fly Mart - What Else!?!?

More Later,

Will T

It is on Gwenadale, which is the service road off of Airline Hwy right off Interstate 12. Food, shops, bowling, and more all close by. Take advantage of this Great Place - and Come Get Some!

There is also a Microtel Inn and Suites down the road away, and I know that the PDGA has a special rate set up through them. But their Host Hotel rates were basically the same as the Ramada (with less to offer) so...

This tournament is going to be freaking awesome. Three different courses; one that rewards brains and balls, one that rewards finesse, and one that rewards the accurate long drives.
This tournament is going to draw tremendous competition from all over the south east.

HEY TEXAS . . . Come get some!!! Try something new for a change. Challenge yourself against the best players in the Southern Nationals series.

This tournament was a blast. I think a lot of people got scared away thinking that it would be cold but it was actually a nice weekend. Who knew how much fun you could have throwing a premi wizard and a Condor towards 12 baskets at 1 time.

The skins were the bomb those 6 holes were amazing to bad no one got any pictures.

Thanks BT for everything you did to get this tournament going.

Here is the cut and pasted results from the TD report.
Doesn't have the payout, but that will all be up soon.
I would like to thank those that showed up, and Happy Hollidays.
