803.11 C. If it is discovered prior to the completion of the tournament, that a player's disc that was declared lost had been removed or taken, then the player shall have two throws removed from his or her score.
So here is an interesting scenario, the player tees off on a blind hole and it appears they got a bad shot. The disc cannot be found anyplace so the player takes a stroke and distance and re-tees. Second shot lands in the basket for a circle 3 or nearby for a circle 4. I know it is unlikely they will get a circle 3, but for arguments sake the disc is turned in and through investigation and torture it is determined the disc had managed to find its way to another fairway and had been picked up. The rule says nothing about timing, obviously because it cannot be exactly synched. It does not say anything about consideration of the location the disc was picked up from, it simply says that 2 strokes shall be removed from the players score.
So a couple of questions to discuss:
- Did the player get an ace if they had a circle 3?
- The rule does not give time considerations; can the player claim the disc was picked up if they find it in the lost and found? Can they request the TD drop their score by 2 strokes?
Another thing to consider. What if the disc appears in the Lost and Found with no indication as to when it was found? Can the player then claim 2 storkes be removed from their score?
