Great group of people, very fun weekend in a beautiful location. At times I found myself gazing at the scenery when I could have been thinking of my next shot, and my scoring reflected this :).
Both the Zonedriven on Oahu and the Big Island Open on the Big Island (Hawaii) are well worth the trip. I will be playing again in the future.
Did I forget to mention the neighborhoods are pretty nice?

This thread gives me a good idea for a honeymoon in 2008...what months are these events held?

January, I went to the Big Island Open last year and plan to go back one of these years. Last year the Zonedriven turney was on one weekend and the Big Island Open the next.
Nice place! (http://www.sharkysshots.com/albums/userpics/10002/hawaiidisc0033.jpg)
Another pic. (http://www.sharkysshots.com/albums/userpics/10002/hawaiidisc0042.jpg) The other course we played. (http://www.sharkysshots.com/albums/userpics/10002/hawaiidisc0102.jpg) Nice crowd too! (http://www.sharkysshots.com/albums/userpics/10002/hawaiidisc0127.jpg)

Wasn't there a massive (6.6) earthquake over there a few days ago?

Butch, weather 78, and clear almost always. Spent 4 years in the military there. Not so expensive if you stay away from the tourist traps. Ask a militart person when you get there. No snakes on the islands. Probably windy. Scenery, awasome

Big quake off the NW side of the Big Island, fair bit of damage to roads there and some structures, especially some historic ones (one of Kamehameha the Great's heiau complexes got hit hard). No big damage on the Hilo side, where the Big Island Open is held. No deaths, thankfully. Power off on Oahu for a while. Could have been much worse in a geologically dynamic region.

Me and Burl went there January 2005, perfect weather everyday, camped literally right on the beach, falling asleep to the waves every night.. it was AMAZINNNGGGGG!! I'll make it back there again one of these days!
Aloha everyone, just happened to see this up and thought to provide whatever info I could for you all.
In January the big island open is the 27th and 28th. Its always a great event and plays two very different courses both with water hazards everywhere. Highly reccomended for those that want the hawaii disc experience. One side note is that they usually dont play baskets but bamboo targets called bunkajins that are pretty fun to play on.
The Zonedriven Hawaii open is at Kualoa on Oahu and usually is the week before or after the big island. From what Ive heard , the usual td is moving off island and there seems to be some confusion as to who will step over there and run it. However I do believe that theres a good chance it will still happen and Im sure Ill find out very soon. When I do, I ll post it here.
Well thats about what I know, and ya, weve been rockin out here in volcanoe land.....my house and pottery studio has been rocked several times, the 6.7 had me nervous for a few seconds but rode it out alright. Pretty crazy statistic is weve had about 120 aftershocks all over maui and big island......lots in the 2-4 range.

For those of you going, here is a word of advice. Do not eat the poy. Better yet, eat it and return to the US and tell your friends. What a great place to play disc golf. Wish I would have been playing when I was there.
Aloha

this sounds sweet. I am hoping to spend a week there on my way back home from Austrailia and maybe Thailand or Japan.
True theres lots of sunshine, but keep in mind these tournaments are on the windward sides of the islands so its always good to be prepared for the winter rains if they decided to show up that weekend. However I will say weve been pretty fortunate in the past and have had great weather but just remember any weather is possible.

Hey guys- I played the 06 event and it was a life altering experience. I can't say enough about how sick the whole trip was. I have been trying to find out the dates for the zone driven. Jesse Chambliss and I are ready to buy our tickets. We were hoping to be able to play both events. Can anyone help us with some dates? As it stands we are going for the big island event.

I still replay that Molaka'i temp. course in my head all the time. Some of the most unreal holes ever!! At least 5 of them!
