Metting with the City on the 25th! I am meeting with someone from the parks department. I have a arial shot of the park with the baskets layed out. I would like to find a surveying wheel to measure actual distance on these holes, but other than that I think I will be set. Any advise you have I would appreciate! The park is called "Mike Lewis Park" it is on the north east corner of Carrier and Roy Ore.

Moved some of the pins and tee's for safety. I have already staked out the tee pads(white) and holes(yellow) Going to measure the holes again now that we have them staked out.

Here is the best advise anyone could give you. Do not design this park for your game, my game, or anybody elses game. You have the opportunity to change to face of local disc golf. Be methodical, pay attention to detail, and for the love of god, please make this place awesome. We need more good courses in the Metroplex. We need a challenge ,if you can , give us that. If you need help, I am here to assist. Anybody can put baskets in the park. Not just anybody can make me drive 45 minutes to gramd prairie to play disc golf!

Also, your 250 hole nine....... Looks like you are trying to design a last ditch birdie effort before the round is over. IMO, the last hole of the course needs to be your best hole. The one hole where you HAVE to earn your 3 to walk off of that course feeling good. On the contrast of that statement, this park sounds like it is in a residential community. Dont forget about the noob's!

Thanks for your input! I did not like hole 8 either it was boring. wich in changed hole nines length. Keep in mind that this park does not have a lot of tree's but we feel like they have been used throught the nine hole layout in the best way possible. There is also a sidewalk that runs through our end of the park we had to take into account. Safety was my first goal in designing this course, then came aesthetics with length and lefty righty mix. We are planning more but until they put 161 through the East end of the park there is no point in laying out the other 9. We also thought about using a heavily wooded area of the park for another 9. I would be glad to show anyone the layout we have come up with and take any criticism they have to offer. I will be out at the park on Tuesday around 530 to finish measuring the holes layed out so if you want to offer criticism please do so before we go to the parks board on the 25th. Brian says he will post our course map in the next couple of day one my buddy Ryan edits the old one!

Thanks John but we have changed this a bit. I have have a new one shortly.

I think you have overlooked the peninsula/island due east of eight's tee area. In lieu of walking all the way over to 7's tee area, you could suck it back closer to 6's basket and tee to either the island in the parking lot (subjective due to parking/traffic restrictions) . Or set the basket due east of 8's tee between the parking lot and sidewalk, makes a great tight green . Same island potential on hole 2 . I have not been to this park, so take my input for what it is worth ( very little ) . something also needs to happen with the tee on 6 . Traffic from hole 3 and 5 are going to come into play. " HEADACHE "

The property east of the proposed maitnance facility looks awesome.

If you build it, I hope you get it marked better than the other Grand Prarie course.

My other consern, who is designing the course?????

There are SO many things to consider when picking a park and design. Long holes do nothing for a course other than chase away Rec players. (for a 9 hole course, no 500ft holes)

You must also consider what you have to compete with , how many courses are located within a 20 minute drive of this place. You have to give people a reason to want to come here. I am not seeing that right now... I think the park has potential, I dont think the design is going to live up to that potential.

I disagree, I think for the area and what we have to work with we have made logical decisions. Remember that this is just to give you an idea of what we have. There are trees missing. I also forgot to say that these trees are really big live oaks. Like I said come check it out for your self and then offer a more criticism. I do appreciate al of your opinions. I think by coming to the park for a personal tour I could show you what lead us to make these decisions. One more thing I like the wind factor at this park.

It's amazing that you could even get another basket in GP, good job E!!

And not everyone buys into the "longer makes it better" mentality. I can't count how many people have said that the Coyote course at CH impoved their game, not to mention all of the big arms who have said they hated it because they don't have an advantage :D.

Of course with that being said I do intend on getting (after I buy a new one) after a few holes with the chainsaw on that course this winter while it is nice and cool.

Played this course today with "My Hero" and my buddy Ryan, no wind today which is odd for this course. In the meeting this last Wed. they suggested that we start our course with hole seven being hole one. That was awsome! This sounds weird to say, but I think the course is a lot cooler played in this order! Anyways "My Hero" measured with a GPS "unit" today old hole #2, now hole #4 measures out 526' +or- 12 ft. Wow thats nice bring the big guns. The city is going to back with me I expect this next week or so and then hopefully we can talk about the details. Overall they where stoked about the idea and there is plenty of room for expantion. The Parks Manager worked on building what is now Amirillo's Thompson Park. So he thinks disc golf is a added beniffit to a park as far as foot traffic in less used area's of the park. If anyone want a tour let me know (having a baby girl on Monday so I might be a bit busy for the next week or 18 years, anyways cant wait to show the metroplex this awesome park!

Thanks for the sneak peek Eric and Ryan. Your initial design is pretty good with the land that was given to you. I can see that wind will be a major factor here. (The course's terrain is flat with mature trees scattered about.)

It was nice to hear that the park manager has installed disc golf courses previously in different cities. It was even nicer to hear that he had a GOOD experience, and saw positive things come out of his Amarillo parks.

There's so much room out there for future expansion. Every hole has room for alternate teepads and pin positions. The park also has a huge chunck of thick woods to the south that can ultimately be used for the back nine. I guess the only hold up there is knowing exactly where Hwy 161 is going to be.

Thanks for proposing it to the city, and bringing another course to the area. When is the ground breaking party?

I Just found out Mon. that the parks manager proposed the course idea to the parks director and they want to put in a champion course! Now they have asked for time lines and an estimate for materials. I am not yet sure when we are going to do this but I will let you all know when I find out more.

8 lb 7-1/2oz 19-1/2" long. She lifts her head by herself which I here is rare for a new born. I hope to bring her out to the VPO this weekend to check out some of the action if my wife is up to it. Good luck this weekend John.
