Well it really depends on what your looking for...if your looking for a practice basket to putt on I would recommend an Instep. For one they're cheap and they don't catch unless you hit them right where you need to (it will teach you the proper places you can hit chains and not get spit outs or deflections). If your just wanting one for all around use and catches well I would recommend a Gateway Titan (not sure how much they cost), they just seem to gobble up every putt you throw at them.

Go to Solstice Disc Sport's (http://www.eatsleepdisc.com/) They have the Innova DisCatcher Sport Portable Target for $169.50.

They are pretty good basket's~~~I have one of them and it catches 9 out of 10 time's.

Well...I am going too throw this out there...even though they are a bit over $300. The Titan portable from Gateway is hands down the best portable basket on the market. I have tried three other types of portables and none of them can hold a candle to the Titan. Durability is unbelievable and the catching ability is the best there is. Spending the extra for a Titan portable would be well worth it.

thanks everyone, has anyone tried the Mach II by DGA? I am also looking for a high end basket, not a skillshot or machlite. I have had both and want something better and portable. Ideas are appreciated.

It seems a lot of people don't like the chastity belt on Disc-Catchers (not sure if it is on the portable...?) So get one of these, and get immune! With the innerchains installed they catch as well or better as other baskets, IMHO. Enough courses use them that it's worth getting over...if you're one of the unlucky ones DISCtracted by the yellow disc magnet!

I wonder how many people are really distracted by the yellow band. It seems to me that people make a bid deal out if it, but I doubt it has much effect. The only difference is if you are playing on DISCatchers and you have a high putt, you hear that awful noise.

The DiscCatcher Sport is a great basket for the price of around $150 (+25 bucks for inner chain mod). Mine catches as well as many more expensive baskets. It's light enough to move around easily, and pack up if I want to take it on a trip. It doesn't have the big yellow ring around the top, it's a smaller YELLOW ring, but it still helps you get used to playing courses with DiscCatcher Pro baskets.
I have a DiscCatcher Sport (w/mod) at one end of my yard and a Chainstar 30-+ away. Throwing between these two gets me used to throwing at two different looking baskets which helps my practice a lot.

I have the Discatcher Pro with a fluorescent red band. It's bright as heck, but I figure, if I can put on it, I can putt on anything without distraction.

I practice putting on a Mach II regularly. I have found that they catch very similarly to the Mach III, except that I manage to bounce off the pole a little more on longer putts with the Mach II. It must be because of the different design of the inner chains. If I was going to buy one for practicing in the backyard, that would be the one. It's $100 cheaper than the Mach III, but catches very similarly.

Just my 2 cents.

But Mach IIIs don't catch that well. I mean they have huge gaps in the chains. The best baskets you can get are the Titan and Discatcher. If you dissagree state why?

Mach 2 's are great. Catch just fine.

Not as Expensive as a Chainstar , Mach III , Mach V or a Discatcher Pro. Those baskets start at $ 350.00 +

I Know because I have each one !!!! :o

You also may be able to get your Mach 2 in Blue if you want for under $ 300.00 New !!!!!

I'm not able to compare to the Titan, we don't have them on any of the courses I play here in California. The only DISCatchers that I've putted on were pretty old and the chains seemed very heavy and not very giving. While it was true that it would be really hard to put a putt through those chains, I had a few putts that actually bounced off of the chains. It could be my putting style, and lack of experience with those baskets. I was simply giving my experience with the Mach II in relation to a basket I'm familiar with. I also know that I wouldn't pay $375 for a basket that is going to be used for putting practice in my backyard when a more than adequate alternative is available for under $300.

What are your reasons for liking the Titan and DISCatcher more?

They have a very low percentage of bounce outs. Heck I have only seen one bounce out on a Titan after playing on them almost everyday this summer because the inner chains are like twice as heavy as the outer. They are also VERY durable baskets and have good outer cathing ability.

The Discatcher is the same but with a few more boucne out chances. BTW I have heard people saying that the Machs and chainstars catch great whe a disc hits the outer portion of the chains but I would rather have those not so great putts spit every now and the good ones stay in. I have at least 3 or 4 bounce outs on machs and chainstars in a 4 round event. Heck I had two in the 2nd round of a local event hear that cost me a win. They were 30ft and 15ft respectively.

Hate the New Mach 2, love the Mach III.

Mach III is the best catching basket I have ever putted on. It like reaches out and pulls your disc in.

I have the old portable one that collapses to the size of a spare tire. I need a new base though, mine has rotted after 16 years.

ALL great reasons why someone would want these baskets installed on a course NOT as a practice basket :p

Personally my favorite "Practice" baskets are a pair of double chained Mach 1's. Practice on something WORSE than what you COMPETE on.. ;)

As far as a "Solid" portable..I prefer the Mach V..(no numberplate vs Mach III, I have both)

Also Discatchers tend to "Crack & Peel" (yellow band)in the constant packing and unpacking as time goes by. Some of the NorCal Series baskets (Portable 22) look as if they were 20 yrs old instead of the 4 that they are
You can always "Custom Color" your Discatcher as well....

I Agree........As far as a "Solid" portable..I prefer the Mach V.

Can't beat a Mach V. Some say a ChainStar , which is Discraft's Mach V. The difference is all the chains are on one ring on the bottom vs. 2 separate rings on a Mach V.

Both are made by DGA and the biggest advantage above all other baskets made besides catching Golf Disc's Great , they don't Rust and can handle snow and mud like no ones business !!!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Every other basket has Rust points on them or chip !!!!

I have two mach 2's , one mach 1 , 3 mach 5's , 2 discatchers , 1 mach 3 and the rest are conversions I created.

For camping or hiking , the best are the Skill Shot or better yet the Mach Lite. A full size Pole Hole is just to darn heavy to hike a 3 mile + mountain. I have tried.

I have both a Mach V and now a titan at my house and I have about had about 8 or 9 bounce outs on the Mach and none one the titan so far(3 days of practice). The titan will spit if you hit the right side with a level putt that is a little high. This seems bad but the chains hang out wide so you get a putt that won't stay but it would have glanced of the chains on a Mach III and to a lesser extent a Mach V.

BTW they are $325 for a portable which is cheaper then the Machs and Discatchers(also a good basket)

There's a new company that makes a very sturdy basket. Only 2 bolts to take it apart for easier portability or get lock nuts and put it on a course.
www.discin.net (http://www.discin.net)
Lots of color choices and different models. I only car camp but always take mine with me and bang it around with no problems with rusting.
Great catching, baskets not too bouncey.
check it out

Oh yeah no bolts on the titan just put the pole on the base, then add the basket portion, next put on the upper pole and then the chain assembly. It takes like 30sec.

i have a 30-hole course on our land outside of telluride, co. i have tried a few "cheaper" baskets and found the innova discatcher sport to be my fave [i paid 165 w/free shipping] and the lightning db-5 more burley for 15$ more. both are great choices for the $.
